Official from both institutions met recently to discuss cooperation

The Dominica State College (DSC) and the University of St. Maarten (USM), have been engaged in efforts to forge links between the two institutions.

Officials from the two tertiary institutions of learning met on Friday November 29th, in what was described a very fruitful and productive meeting.

The officials discussed areas of cooperation between the two institutions, with a view towards strengthening relations through a memorandum of understanding.

Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Dominica State College, Brian Meade, expressed his pleasure at the outcome of the meeting said he is looking forward to a follow up meeting early in the New Year.

Meade pointed out that there areas of study that the Dominica State College can offer the University of St. Martin and vice versa and said he would love to see the facilitation of an exchange of lecturers and students between the two institutions.

The Dominica delegation also included Anic Bruno of the office of Admissions at the DSC.

The St.Maarten delegation was led by Annelies van den Assem, President of the USM. She was accompanied by Glen Yeung, Interim Dean of Academics, and Thomas Rieresma, Joint Venture Project Leader.

The DSC has just completed an EC$37-M State of the Art facility, making it the largest and most modern of tertiary education facilities in the North East Caribbean.

It currently has an enrollment over 1,800 students, from Dominica and the rest of the Caribbean.

This concludes that Dominica’s education is higher than that of St Maarten. Plus it’s a good opportunity to exchange relations.

Here is how ridiculous we Dominicans are. A few short weeks ago, our so called minister of Education put on this fanfare, parading talking crap about going to St. Marten to recruit students to go to Dominica, and attend our junior perhaps two year college.

How irdiculous it looks now to be reading that St. Marten have a university? The level and standard of education at a university is higher than that of a community college, so I do not know why our politicians like to make themselves look so stupid.

Wherever there is a university, means there may be a junior college, so why would students in St. Marten wish to travel to Dominica, to study “what,” when they have it all in their country?

Crying down your country. What make you believe that Dominica cannot be advancing (better than the US Virgin Islands and also St. Maarten)?

Sorry to say that, but I’ve always know to be an imbecile.

Did you read the entire article, or did you just browse through it?

It clearly stated that there are areas of study that the DSC can offer the uni in St Martin.

Why doesn’t the DSC forge closer relations with more recognized institutions rather than these third rate schools that no one has heard of.
