DSC to host first annual lecture series

The Dominica State College (DSC) is proud to announce that it will be hosting its first of what is slated to be an annual Lecture Series. DSC’s inaugural Lecture will seek to analyse the issue of heroism in Dominica. The topic is “In Search of Heroes; Defining Heroism in a Quest to Identify and Highlight Dominican Heroes.”

Dominica State College firmly believes that there are extraordinary, exemplary Dominicans, still, there is debate as to whether we have men and women who deserve the honour of hero status, and if so, based on what criteria.

The Lecture Series will follow the standard international format of lecture delivery, after which the floor will be opened to the audience for comments, questions and discussion.

This exploration into local heroism will be heralded by Ross Boyd, a senior Lecturer of the State College. Mr Boyd, a returning Dominican from Canada, has been with the college since 1999. Because of his passion for the English language, he is an active and involved member of the English Department, despite being the Head of the Social Sciences Department.

Boyd is the resident DSC ethicist, holding degrees in both Philosophy (University of Winnipeg) and Engineering (University of Manitoba). He is also an avid chess player, having volunteered his time to teach chess at local high-schools, as well as a cricketer, who initiated his own Junior Cricket Academy in Pointe Michelle. Additionally, he is an elected member of the Pointe Michelle Village Council.

The Dominica State College recognizes the importance of intellectual discourse and in this regard, is encouraging the general public to be a part of its first Lecture Series, on Wednesday January 23rd, 2012, at the Fort Young Hotel, at 7:30pm.

DSC is proud to partnership with Dominica News Online and Marpin Telecoms on this venture.

Great series and topic! Wish we could be in Dominica to participate. Anyone really interested in exploring the root of heroism would do well to start with the work of Joseph Campbell. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monomyth

Great news and best wishes for a succesful lecture series.
Did you mean University of Winnipeg instead of Winnipeg University? The latter is not listed as an accredited university in Canada. Further fact checking would also show that there is no such degree-granting insitution as Vancouver University.I am guessing that Mr Boyd would appreciate having his credentials connected to the appropriate universities or colleges.

This is very interesting? Are we questioning Ross Boyd’s academic credentials?
