Education Minister, Petter Saint Jean, has indicated the Ministry’s support for the Sagicor Visionaries Challenge.

The Sagicor Visionaries Challenge was introduced in schools across the region to promote the use of S.T.E.M to develop effective, innovative and sustainable solutions to problems.

“The Ministry of Education is fully supportive of such initiatives because, really and truly, they complement the work that we are doing at the ministerial level, to build interest in STEM [Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics],” he stated, at the closing ceremony of the competition, yesterday.

Saint Jean recognized and applauded Sagicor’s continued contribution to youth.

“Sagicor has taken up its role in meeting the challenge of equipping our young people with the requisite knowledge and skills, and to support them in making this world a better place for us to live,” he said.

The company’s support, he noted, coincides with the Ministry of Education’s effort to promote technology within the education system.

“In fact, over the last year, we have been preparing our students to take advantage of technology, within their classrooms,” he explained. “And, our hope is to build student’s interest in ways that technology can, in fact, assist their learning in the exploration of new ideas, in achieving for themselves a future that is productive.”

The Minister expressed his appreciation for innovation and creativity among students.

“Truly, I believe that the future of Dominica looks bright. We have very great expectations of the generation who will shape our nation in an age of advancing technology and new knowledge,” he concluded.

Hello and good evening my people. Well Mr Saint Jean what’s your qualification to be Education Minister and we need a private company to push STEM in our schools. Any student that’s good in STEM isn’t staying in Dominica because there isn’t any work for them. Just look at the field of Civil Engineer which our country can used but all the road construction contracts are going to companies outside of Dominica.

Petter, the only thing this government has done for students as far as technology is concerned, was handing out thousand of tablets to students, most of which are being used to watch music and porn on the Internet. Other students have sold theirs for a few dollars. Great initiative by a great government that does not know if it’s coming or going!!!
