CONGRATULATIONS TO MA MURDOCK AND MS. LUCINA LAFOND CHARLES. IN YOUR YEARS AS EDUCATORS, YOU MADE A LOT OF POSITIVE CHANGES AND TOUCHED A LOT OF LIVES. YOU ARE THE KINDS OF TEACHERS AND LEADERS THE GREEKS SPOKE ABOUT. WITH YOUR LOVING, AND PLEASANT NATURE, YOU OVERLOOKED THE WEAKNESSES AND THE NEGATIVES AND OBSERVED AND CAPITALISED ON THE GOOD IN EVERYONE. YOU ALWAYS KNEW HOW TO RIGHT A WRONG. YOU WERE ALWAYS FAIR IN YOUR JUDGEMENT AND YOUR DECISIONS. YOU DID NOT ALLOW THE OPIONON OF OTHERS TO CLOUD YOUR JUDGEMNT. YOU ALLOWED MANY PEOPLE FAIR CHANCES, AND OPPORTUNITES TO DEVELOP THEIR TEACHING CAREER. KEEP ON LEAVING FOOTPRINTS IN THE SANDS. THANK YOU FOR YOUR LOVE. I LOVE YOU!!!

i am very happy that they recognize the teachers , but i am also amazed that year after year they forget some very important people too , if they say teachers/educators then they are missing out, people like Edward R Lawrence , what about this guy , i mean this guy had been a teacher as far as i can remember and his been an education officer too , his been in the eduction field for the past 30 years where is his award ? he’s tought people who went on to be lawyers, doctors, prime minister, teachers, etc . come on .. There are some people their name are mentioned and they have not been in the classroom for a long time they got award so tell me what’s going on. i will make metioned of Mrs lafond -charles , i know she’s was a teacher , but at some point she became an education officer just like mr Lawrence, is it because she is retired now? i mean i love mrs Lafiond-Charles and timothy Moise etc. i am happy you all recognized them really , because i think is people like them that should get recognized or being educators for so long. but in Dominica we like to give people their roses when then can no longer smell them. , no hard feelings to those who got the awards , i just wanted to remind the people who give them that there are others who deserve them a long time ago and don’t wait till they are gone , thank you .

The Ministry of Education reintroduced the teaching of CIVICS in schools. Teachers were encouraged to place emphasis on that aspect of education given the lack of respect, ill-discipline and immoral behaviours plaguing society. Knowledge of and love for country, respect for the constitution and laws of Dominica and participation in the social, cultural and political development would feature as part of the CIVICS curriculum. It is quite surprising that the Dominica Teachers Association has remained MUTE on the burning issue of ELECTORAL REFORMS. No views on the refusal of the Political Directorate to respect the Independent Electoral Commission’s recommendations for assistance to provide VOTER ID CARDS and to CLEAN UP the BLOATED VOTERS’ LIST.

Teaching of CIVICS in schools would help students, as they grow older, to appreciation the need for FREE and FAIR elections, the building of a truly DEMOCRATIC Society as well as respect for the constitution and laws. In fact, it should help students grow into ‘GOOD CITIZENS’. That important ISSUE of ELECTORAL REFORM concerns each and every Dominican of all walks of life. it would ensure FREE and FAIR elections in the future. Refusal to make such changes now would put extra pressure and burden on those students in the future one way or the other. Refusal to change for the better would send the wrong messages to those students. They are listening.

How would they view their leaders, teachers, politicians, their parents, society, knowing that they are being taught CIVICS, but the older folks are doing things in undemocratic ways, totally opposite to the good things that are being taught? The DAT need to have their voices heard on such issues. Education is for LIVING, for the holistic development of a country’s citizens. Anything to strengthen our democratic way of life must be supported by institutions and citizens. Therefore DAT need to advocate and give support for the implementation of ELECTORAL REFORMS. The time is NOW.
