The National Bank of Dominica (NBD) has presented a $50,000 cheque towards the Ministry of Education’s Excellence in Education Awards carded for October 4th, 2012.
The presentation was made during a launch of the awards on Friday morning at the Public Service Training Centre.
NBD representative Amanda Scotland explained that the institution was happy to make this contribution towards education since it is the foundation for development and is the way society perpetuates itself. “The excellence in education awards celebrates the outstanding contributions and good performance of our teachers. It recognises the teachers who remain committed and passionate,” she said.
Scotland added: “The National Bank of Dominica feels strongly about improving the quality of lives we serve we are certainly not just a bank we are extending our services beyond the banking walls into the community.”
Acting permanent secretary of the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development Marcella Powell, who spoke on behalf of the Minister of Education Petter St. Jean, thanked the National Bank of Dominica for their contribution.
According to her, the Excellence in Education Awards recognises the invaluable contributions of teachers and school administrators. She said the officials of the Ministry of Education have approached this initiative with great seriousness to ensure that the awardees are the best representation of the standards the ministry wants emulated throughout the system.
The Excellence in Education Awards is expected to take place at the Arawak House of Culture. Various Principals and teachers all over the island will be awarded for excellence in the teaching service.
Shareholders of NBD have recovered their investments several times over. Nice to see the bank continues to maintain its societal responsibility.
This entire thing is just a show. There are many many more teachers who work harder those those who love the sportlight of the camera and the TV.
Is it fair among the many hundreds of teachers on island to recognize just a handful? Is it a motivational strategy or a demotivational strategy?
“>>>>>>>>>>>” See what you using for your name. You are sick I have attended this function and all schools are represented You just hate to compliment people. Go help your principal run the school and behave or help your children to become teachers in the future. You must have gone to school in August. Compliment the people.
Good work Ministry of Education. Give the people their roses whilst they are alive.
are u serious?
Will awards be focused only on traditional classroom education or will awards be given to parents who successfully home school their children
Who is the PS??????
It is so unfair that a bank can only offer their shareholders five cents on a share can give so much money to one institution. They make millions of profits. Please give some to the Education Trust Fund and other groups. Maybe a ten thousand of that could have gone to them. I am not against them giving money to institutions but the shareholders who invested money to start the institution get nothing back give them a little more and you could still give the other institutions.
