(DNO) Dominica’s Education Minister Peter St. Jean says plans are in place to tackle the issues affecting a higher quality of education in Dominica.

St. Jean told the official opening of the $3.8 million state-of-the–art primary school in Salybia on Monday that government must ensure that the needs of every child are met in order to receive a proper education.

“We know that by empowering households through education that families can climb out of poverty on their own. I will continue to discuss with technicians within the ministry, strategies for tackling the hindrances for higher quality in education,” he said.

He said education is much more than placing students in modern buildings.

“No child will learn if he or her basic needs are not met. If we are to guarantee that every child maximizes opportunities for formal education, the system must come to know intimately, the capabilities, limitations and contextual background of every child,” he said.

St. Jean said he is expected to meet with key employers in the private sector to discuss training and human resource development in Dominica.

He says a high quality education of all is priority.

The primary school project was funded by the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.

What you mean by what about the schools in Roseau? Are you being ignorant by implying that the best schools should be in Roseau? Wake up, Roseau is NOT Dominica – there is life outside of Roseau.

DNO: wow…………….your camera not working man? Opening of a new school and all we are seeing is the Minister’s face? Stupes.

Saphire, you should have come to the opening. The school is fully equipped. Desk chairs, fully functional home economics room (kitchen facilities), library/reading room, lab with equipment etc. It was really very impressive. Hats off to Sharon Severin, the desinger and the contractor and all his workmen…really a job well done

Thank you pm. We deserve our school.
But y is the minister’s wife that cut the ribbon, it should be the wife of the carin chief.
The contractor and his crew should have been applauded for a job well done.
