Grambling valedictorian, Sabrina Joseph, encourages other young Dominicans

Valedictorian, Sabrina Joseph, aims to become a certified public accountant

After a 3 year journey with Grambling State University, accounts major and 2013 co-valedictorian, Sabrina Joseph, has revealed that she is working on becoming a certified public accountant.

Joseph, who is from Vieille Case, was named one of two valedictorians of the 2013 graduating class of the Grambling State University and attributes her success to prioritizing and proper time management.

“It takes proper time management and being disciplined. You have to know how to prioritize your tasks. There are a lot of things going on on campus and it is not just about doing your school work you also have to be involved and go out and have fun but you also have to be able to use your time wisely and be disciplined in that as well.”

She explained that going to school in the United States was a smooth transition for her since she already had friends there.

“Going to Grambling, there were a few students that I already knew from my high school, so even though I had no family in Louisiana, the journey was okay since there were people I already knew and I got the opportunity to meet different people from different islands. You get the opportunity to share information and interact. That basically helped the journey.”

Joseph is a former student of the Vieille Case Primary School and the Portsmouth Secondary School.

She pointed out that she had to be proactive while at school and always remain a step ahead.

“Accounting can be challenging, I used to read my chapters before I got to class, so, I always stayed ahead of my accounting class so when I’m in class whatever the teacher explains, it would be clarifying things that I did not understand when I read at home.”

She encouraged other students to always push to make their dreams a reality.

“I want to encourage other young people in Dominica to avoid thinking that just because they do not have the finance to pay for their education that they should just sit home and do nothing there is always a way to get your education or anything that you want to do in life.”

I think the name should be foolfool instead of lulu. When you go to school in the states and u say you from Dominica people always make the crazy comments like “never of Dominica before”. It had nothing to do with Amba or V/case lulu.

Lulu your argument doesn’t make much sense. .re-read what he wrote. .come on, here is not the place for arguing. A simple congratulations under someone achievement shouldn’t lead to foolish arguments

The Dominican students are prepared to work hard, but they must be given the opportunity to excel in the work place by modernizing the economy of the country. Our country is still being governed in the stone age, while the rest of the world is moving on. Change the Government and give our Youth a chance.

    December 27, 2013

Another Outstanding Dominican;a role model. In recent times, several Dominicans have made great achievements in different fields…and the numbers continue to rise. We applaud You Sabrina Joseph…for you have shown that Action indeed speaks louder than words…and that diligence in a good pursuit brings sweet and lasting victory.

  38. December 27, 2013

I am not surprise at all at miss Joseph achievement, and saying congratulation is just not enough, it is not easy going through life especially as a young lady, but she has again proven that in spite of all the obstacles life throw at you, if you ground your self, discipline your self, set high standards, and maintain your pride and dignity, and let education, which is the key to success and independence be your goal… then u could all enter the class of winners like Sabrina Joseph.

I do not think I know you but way to go girl. That is what I did when I was at University. I am an Accounting Major as well. When you read ahead of class you always appear more intelligent than the rest, but in fact what happens is that reading ahead of class gives you the opportunity to know the material to a certain extent or rather to familiarize yourself with the material and then when the professor explains, as you said, it clarifies whatever difficulties you have in understanding whatever you studied or read. It is easy to know when students read ahead of class, they ask sensible questions!!!

    Congrats all the same.
