Dominica’s Junior Minister for Tourism, Kitwanie Carbon led a clean up campaign of the city streets with high school teams in Roseau on Saturday 21st January 2012 from 9:00am to 12:00 noon.
This initiative was spearheaded by The Green Movement of the Convent High School and Discover Dominica Authority (DDA). All Secondary schools in the Roseau area came out to champion this cause alongside the Convent High School, including St. Martin’s Secondary, St. Mary’s Academy, Goodwill Secondary, Wesley High School and Dominica Community High School, totaling 120 student volunteers.
Staff of DDA also provided support during the clean up.
The private sector also contributed towards this commendable effort, including Fran’s, Pearl’s Cuisine, Reuben’s Bakery, Dominica Brewery & Beverages Ltd and Carbon Refrigeration.
Gratitude is also extended to the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development for its support, and a major partner was the Dominica Solid Waste Management Corporation for supplies and the provision of a Truck for collection and disposal of garbage during the clean up.
This activity was geared towards creating an awareness and greater consciousness of the significance of a clean City, and environment by extension. Students were commended as they cleaned the streets of Roseau for their concern with the environment, and some persons expressed their support and promised to do their part in their surroundings.
We encourage everyone to be responsible and keep Roseau, your community and Dominica clean.

Carbon was named “junior tourism minister,” an honorary title, after she emerged winner of a Caribbean Tourism Organization youth conference in St. Maarten last year.
I was a part of the clean up campaign, I had fun, despite of the criticism I hope there will be another date set for the campaign. I believe the convent student alone couldn’t pick up all the gabage on the streets. So hats of to everyone who participated.
Congrats booboo
omg… see how far our little school group reached… i’m so proud to have been a founder and pass it on to such wonderful individuals
OMG Kitwanie I am so proud of you even though I not in D/A anymore I can still see your doing very well! Hats off to you and your Parents who i’m pretty sure are beaming with pride! Keep up the Good Work and always remember God!
Bribri from Convent :D

i am so so proud of you kits baby… keep it up. hats off to these young people
Who is she?? when was she appointed?? How old is she?? Where is she from??
neutral!why all the questions? If is a good move say it is a good move, and give your encouragement to the kids who came out to do a good deed.
The most important thing there, she is Dominican and a non dlp child. And all the others are children of dlp, freedom, dwp and independance Dominicans. So the youths are on the move just support them.
“Carbon was named “junior tourism minister,” an honorary title, after she emerged winner of a Caribbean Tourism Organization youth conference in St. Maarten last year.”
Some people are so quick to be skeptical/negative etc that they fail to take the time out to process information properly. smh
thanks Tsk Tsk. They make silly comments even before they read and understand. How can she be appointed, she is a student, which means she is still attending school. She was ‘named’ just to encourage her and other Dominicans to keep Dominica CLEAN
Shows that you are not intuned with the news. If you were, there would be no need for you to ask these questions. I will still give you the answers. She is my cousin. Last year after winning in St Maarten. She is very young. She is a born Dominican.
I am so excited about this young lady. I hope that both our young men and women will take note and strive to become leaders and community minded. Hats off to her parents
Fantastic,Well done everybody who participated ,your a shining example for our other so called citizens, maybe your actions will shame others into being more aware of their environment and their littering practices.
Good Stuff.
great job. thumbs up to all and congratulation to our young people.
