Eleven schools from across the island are expected to compete in the National Junior Achievement (JA) Company of the Year Competittion slated for October 22.

The schools will compete in four award categories: business plan, national trade show, best proto-type and Junior Achievement national product and Junior Achievement People’s Choice.

The winning school will be named, “National Company of the Year.”

The national winners will represent Dominica as semi-finalists at the Junior Achievement Americas Coy Competition 2013 to be held in Cancun, Mexico from 9th to 12th of December, 2013.

The Coy Award seeks to recognise and reward young achievers each year for their work in the area of business innovation, creativity and originality.

Junior Achievement Dominica is a member of Junior Achievement Worldwide- the largest non-profit organisations dedicated to educating students about work force readiness, entrepreneurship and financial literacy through experiential hands on learning.

Executive Director of JA, Natasha Yeeloy Labad, says she believes that the Coy Awards are a fantastic initiative which prepares and empowers young people to own their economic success in the 21st-century global economy.

She says JA students activate their potential and use their skills to contribute to the strength of their families, communities, nations and the economy.

“This makes JA alumni more competitive on the job market and increases the potential of JA graduates to graduate from higher education,” she said.

Interested schools and youth groups can register to be a part of the JA National Coy event by emailing [email protected] or contacting the JA office at 449-6846
