Business Byte – Junior Calypso Monarch gets laptop, free internet

Janae Jackson in action

Capturing the title of Junior Monarch 2012 has landed Janae Jackson a Lenovo laptop from LIME and one year’s complimentary broadband internet service to enjoy the use of her new piece of technology.

The Convent High School student beat a field of fifteen young calypsonians representing a wide cross section of primary and secondary schools across the island on her way to winning the title. Her strong delivery and perfect rendition of her song made her a force to be reckoned with at this year’s competition.

LIME has been collaborating with the LEO Club of Dominica for the past five years as the Headline sponsor of the Junior Monarch competition. “Calypso is one of the key aspects of the celebration of Dominica’s carnival and LIME is playing its part in sustaining this art form through our support of the young calypsonians who participate in the Junior Monarch” said Acting General Manager Clyde Edwards as he addressed the recent prize giving ceremony for the event.

Edwards also highlighted the importance of the prizes presented which support the student’s educational aspirations while encouraging their involvement in the development of the country’s culture.

The first runner-up Nachel Walsh of the Isiah Thomas Secondary School received a desktop and six months internet service from LIME. The 2nd runner up Phael Lander of the Saint Mary’s Academy and 3rd place winner Chelsea Prince of the North East Comprehensive School both received LIME packages including handsets.

Main organizer Junior Toussaint acknowledged that the competition would not be possible without the support given by LIME and complimented the company for the continued partnership and support.
