LIME adopts Roseau Primary School

Country Manager Jeffery Baptiste

Telecommunications company LIME has officially adopted the Roseau Primary School and is seeking to make contributions that are meant to impact a number of learning support systems at the school.

Country Manager Jeffery Baptiste, speaking at a function marking the adoption, indicated that this effort is intended to further expand the company’s contribution to education in the country

“Our role at LIME is to help families of all kinds live better lives, be it through our support to culture, sports, education or our core business of telecommunication. Today, I stand proud to further solidify my company’s commitment to building Dominican lives and more specifically, the lives of the students, faculty and family members of the Roseau Primary School,” Baptiste said.

He continued, “I am happy to announce that our commitment to education will expand to new ground as we officially announce our adoption of the Roseau Primary School.”

Baptiste went on to outline the areas in which the company will seek to assist, including  bestowing five scholarships to students of the school, each of which is valued at $500 administered based on need and academic excellence, annually.

The adoption Memorandum of Understanding will also include an upgrade of the school’s computer lab with advanced internet connectivity, a monthly contribution towards the cost of the school’s telecommunication services, an annual contribution towards a Christmas party for the school, assistance in the school’s staging of its annual career day and support for its sports, PTA and other activities.

Another facet of the adoption is a mentor ship program that will involve LIME staff engaging students from the school as mentors, providing direct support that is aimed at molding them.

Principal of the Roseau Primary School Greta Roberts expressed immense gratitude for the contributions from LIME to the education of students at the school while urging parents to make use of the new resources, engaging in their children’s education in a more significant way.

She said, “One of the ways in which you can do this is to become involved in school activities, to make the school part of your life, to ensure that you are there to engage in your child’s life by assisting them with their school work or by taking a vested interest in what ever they are doing.”

Education Minister Petter St. Jean conveyed the ministry’s delight to have the corporate cooperation of LIME stating, “I wish here to fully endorse the initiative.”

LIME already provides broadband internet service To every school on the island, a service which Baptiste claims costs the company $100,000 annually.

Someone correct me if I’m wrong. Didn’t Cable & Wireless adopt the Goodwill primary school? If that was really so what happened since LIME took over from Cables?

PLEASE STAND CORRECTED THAT CABLE & WIRELESS DID NOT ADOPT THE GOODWILL PRIMARY SCHOOL HOWEVER LIKE COMMITMENT TO MANY OTHER SCHOOLS IN DOMINICA MADE DONATIONS TO THAT SCHOOL TO INCLUDE READING BOOKS, TEACHING AIDS (PENS, PENCILS, CRAYONS, MANILLA PAPER, MARKERS, EXERCISE BOOKS ETC), COMPUTER(S), PRINTER(S) AND FREE INTERNET ACCESS AMONG OTHER ITEMS WHICH THE COMPANY CONTINUES TO PROVIDED TO SCHOOLS AROUND THE ISLAND. THE TEACHING AID, BOOKS, COMPUTERS, PRINTER ETC CAN BE A ONE OFF DONATION WHILE THE INTERNET ACCESS IS FREE TO ALL SCHOOLS SINCE 1996 UNDER A PROGRAM CALLED “LIME FREE INTERNET ACCESS FOR SCHOOLS”. THIS PROGRAM IS AN INITIATIVE WITH THE GOVERNMENT OF DOMINICA AND IN PARTICULARLY THE MINISTRY FOR EDUCATION. THE FREE INTERNET ACCESS PROVIDED IS OVER $100’000.00 ANNUALLY.

We give thanks for all that is good.

Have you set a time span for such assistance?….like one hundred, a thousand years!

Hope it is not a flash in time like the D/ca Coconut Products with the Mahaut village. It seems that they were left high and dry whatever the reasons are.

The concern I have is serving the two scenarios. That is, there should always be a system in place to replace the outgoing sponsors in order to sustain the program so that gaps are avoided in the social growth.

Mahaut is visibily deficient as compared to the period when the neighbouring company was their benefactor.

    vision to avoid perish

    Thanks for the initiative

Thank you Mr. Baptiste. Such a move will certainly improve the awareness of the parents and students alike in terms of long term education and commitment. As Education month rolls on, keep up the good work. If possible, I recommend that other institutions follow LIME’S example.
