Massacre Girl Guides held a Valentine’s Day Dinner for their parents on Sunday 13, 2011 at the Old Mill Cultural Center generously donated by the Cultural Division through Raymond Lawrence.
It was a first of its kind for the girls who saw it fitting to host their parents who they acknowledge have worked hard for them during the year and just wanted to show their love and appreciation. The delightful dinner brought together over 30 proud moms and dads whose appreciation was made more profound by the fact that this was a gift from their own children.
Organizer, Girl Guides Captain Mariet Canoville said, “Often adults complain that these days young people do not produce positive results and that we fear the next generation will be doomed. We need however, to examine ourselves. It was a difficult task for me as their Captain to secure sponsorship for this event as sponsors are more interested in sewo functions and girl guiding is definitely not a sewo function. I was appalled at the refusals that we received from our biggest corporations in Dominica who seem to find that to assist with a couple hundred dollars these young teenage girls in productive activities to ensure a better community for every one of us, would bust their budget.”
She continued, “We do not want them to become reformed porn stars to get sponsorship we want to prevent them from doing so by sponsorship now. This is why I want to thank the companies and the little people who themselves struggle financially but saw it fitting to support the effort, and I acknowledge the hard work of Assistant Monique Jones, Guide Patrol Leader Annick Francis in preparing the event and all the Massacre Girl Guides.”
The sponsors of the event were H.H.V. Whitchurch and Co.Ltd, A.C. Shillingford and Co.Ltd, O.D. Brisbane and Sons, Greens Wholesale, Garraway Hotel, Italia Restaurant, Guiyave Restaurant, St. Amie Restaurant, Malcolm Stephens and Son, Dr. Dublin, Theresa Canoville, Aliana Canoville, Mrs Claudia Bellot, Albert Cuffy, Ladona George Thomas, Father Jolly, Mamas Super market, Girl Guide Commissioners Eloi and Webb, The Cultural Division, Local Government Department, Dominica Printery and the Cooperative Division.
We cannot be thanked enough for without their timely support this wonderful event would not have been possible.

Good example and thanks to the Massacre Girls for doing such a fantastic job. Continue to make us proud in St.Pauls and around Dominica.
I’m going to blast three shots from my musket up here in Morne au Diable to the girls and Raymond.Raymond is one of my heroes down in there on the “plantation”. My sources inform me that he always does positive things for the people on the plantation.
