Music student on a mission

Alicia Lestrade

While most students take their time off from school to party, relax or have a good time, this is not the case with Alicia Lestrade.

Lestrade is a Dominican Music Education student at the Edna Manley School in Jamaica who is home for study break. Instead of enjoying her break from school the “traditional way” she has decided to take the time off to ‘give back’ to the land of her birth.

For weeks now she has been conducting workshops in which she trains children to play musical instruments and improve their appreciation for music.

Lestrade has also decided to stage a piano recital at the UWI School of Continuing Education on Friday because she thinks the public will enjoy hearing her play the pieces she has chosen as much as she enjoys playing them.

“The last time Dominica had a recital was in 2007,” she stated. “And people who enjoy classical and contemporary piano are due for a new treat.”

Dedicated, determined and disciplined Lestrade said she is always willing to give back to Dominica and is asking for public support.

The piano recital begins at 6:00 pm.

I wish that more people in Dominica were like this young woman. It would certainly be a better place. To many takers here and not enough givers. It is a two way street and most people here don’t get that.

In the public’s interest, the recital has been rescheduled to Tuesday 7th August, at the same time and venue. This was necessary due to the inclement weather on Friday 3rd August. Come and support this young lady on her musical journey!

a very good initiative lady.thank you for being conscious to give back::but the people who are more fortunate and can invest why not open a special music store where dominicans who are interested can see instruments and would be more determined to learn, play and acquire their own tool for the job.put more instruments on display to sharpen the youth’s desires!!

Alicia, cousin, you are doing well and will continue to excel in your chosen field.
I love good music and certainly wished that I were in DA to listen to you. Well, someday, if the Good Lord wills.
I have always been interested in taking piano lessons. I am not presently pursuing it but have not given up the interest. It has not waned and is very much on my mind to pursue this avenue, always with the help of God when the time is right.
I wish you good luck in your other studies and also in your music field. I hope that many Dominicans will be participants of this, your recital. God bless!
Have an enjoyable holiday in Dominica. Success and God bless!
