The Ministry of Education has decided to call off school across the island on Friday.
This is as heavy rains continue to lash Dominica.
Parents and guardians are asked to take note.

Nothing is good enough for Dominicas do is a problem don’t do is bigger problem, school was called off for the safety of the children it was a very good idea.
wen i reach skool i had 2 walk back down in d rain
and my moder tell me stay home and i still go uno
STUPZ i vex that was so mutch ashame for people 2 c
me walking down in all d rain
I love school is just that give us a break nuh man!!!!!!!!!.
really, really some dominicans are had to please. last year the same thing happen, the pm said everyone stay home, what they did not say is what they forget. come today, the news came late yes, but it was said, and we all saw the weather. if my child was leaving out of town she would not go to school.
Students are already at school, so parents must now leave work to pick up their children and make arrangements for their care.
Is anyone awake in this country? Do they recognize the impact of unplanned decisions? Whereas the villages in the east are affected, hwy should the schools in Roseau, the west coast and non affected areas be closed?
The authorities clearly do not have a clue of administration and governance.
And today ends up being a hot day.
you are a fool! unplanned decisions? were they reacting to planned disaster? You Dominicans are the hardest people to please. If nothing was done it would be another story.
In situations like these rash decisions cannot be taken and there must be some consultation. the people making the decisions woke up around the same time as you, got the same sketchy information that you did and were as uncertain of the conditions as you were.
Give people some credit for once!
Children were already in school Idiot. The weather system is a trough. Clearly the rain comes at nights, the pattern is clear.
@anonymous – it was o.k. and wise to send out children from school in the same rainy conditions.after a child reach school at 8, u sending him/her in the rain without parents. maybe you are childless heartless. children are sometimes troublesome. u have to take precaution befor not after a disaster.
U know we Dominicans have a problem. PM call a day off last time early – all you make noise – saying we have to wait for Met Office first. Now when they wait and then act all u still have problems – so what is the problem – all you focus on the wrong things.
Precaution is better than cure
Long Live DA
i wish it didnt have work too
love is around me
So sad no school, when u take a day off from school, u should give it back to us during the calender year.
But you have a problem??!!
You have a real problem. The teachers are your babysitters? You don’t want ur child to go to school during summer too?
Let me give you a news flsh. HOLE YOUR BRAKES!! If you wanted school, go and sit down in the school yourself and learn on a empty board. but other people have things to do with their life than cry for school to open. u RELLY HAVE A POBLEM
Ignore the negativity. Typical Dominicans to be vex that someone is advocating education. There is a reason Dominica is the welfare beggar country of the Caribbean and it is clearly shown why by people beating up on you for suggesting that for all school days lost they should be made up for to ensure our chldren get in all their studies and can compete with the rest of the world.
I totally agree with you and if not possible to add a day then hopefuly the teachers are able to find ways to make up for days lost so our children do not lose oyt in any way.
But you self have an even bigger problem. The weather was TERRIBLE that day. TWO persons lost their lives and as safety measures the gov’t called off school across the entire island. YET still you’re busy worrying about your children losing ONE day of school. WHAT IF YOUR CHILDREN HAD GONE TO SCHOOL THAT DAY AND FELL VICTIMS TO THE BAD WEATHER AND LOST THEIR LIVES?! What will your views be then?? They wouldn’t have even ended up losing one day of school but ALL their days of school. Talk about Typical Dominicans…
i doe vex nuh… lol he can call it off for the whole of next week too.. !! be my guest
Here is one who loves a holiday or probably does not like school.
I recall as a school child when there was heavy rain with thunder and lightning and also hurricanes, we had no school. I also recall that we once got the eye of a hurricane. I was happy to stay home.
When it was raining heavily, as children we would bath under the running water from the spout of the roof which flowed like a waterfall. Can you imagine that force falling on your head? Whenever it rained a lot I had a habit of telling my mother I am going to bathe under it. It was fun though. Today, I would call it therapeutic, to ease the heat from the head. It is said that heat escapes through the head.
Having stated that, the thought crossed my mind, now you know, due to this heat, hot heads why some people could go insane. We need to wet the head more often. For this reason, we need to wet the head more often to alleviate and eradicate anger, anxiety, stress and steam. Do not forget to drink ample water. The heart needs water to pump the blood flow to the heart, to the brains and throughout the body.
I do hope the rain subsides and there will be no more landslides and damage.
this message came a litte too late….grateful for it nonetheless
Now they saying that. Dominica is always late and SLOW…..The met office should have already contacted the gov’t to inform them about the seriousness of the weather. Stupes. That place really backward
why don’t you stop criticizing Dominica and say, or do something positive for once… or better yet since you are so knowledgeable come and help out Dominica…
Come and help out Dominica? I’m here doing my part love. Why do you automatically think I reside abroad? Because I made such a statement? smh….stupes
Is people like you that have it backward so!
