16-year-old Trafalgar resident, O’Neil Le Blanc of the St. Mary’s Academy (SMA), was “pleasantly surprised” when he got the news that he had earned 11 grade ones at this year’s CSEC Examinations.
Le Blanc said he is thankful and very proud of this achievement and he hopes to become a civil engineer.
“I am very elated, very happy right now and also very thankful to God and my parents and family and friends … they all helped me along the way and pushed me to study so I am very happy,” he said.
Leblanc, who enjoys listening to music, singing, reading, swimming and Karate, wants to become architect first, then a civil engineer, since according to him the unemployment levels of architects are very high.
“Recently I learnt that the unemployment rate in architecture is very high compared to civil engineering, so I would also like to do civil engineering in the future,” he pointed out.
The young man said he prepared for the exams by studying a lot and doing a lot of past papers. “My friends, family and teachers pushed me a lot,” he said.
Getting ready to take the exams was almost like a family affair with Le Blanc’s father assisting him with mathematics and physics and his sister, with English and Literature. “So when I had problems with something, I go to them and the teachers around SMA would help me whenever I needed them,” he said.
Alex Maree Roberts, from the Convent High School, received 10 grade ones and a grade two.
Outstanding my dear wishing you all best in the future I don’t know you but i’m very happy for you
Hey O neil. think of becoming an electronic engineer instead. Much bigger bucks starting off trust me.
At a time when we fear for our young men and their future, this article makes me very proud. Congrats son and you keep aiming high, education is the gateway to a world of wonders.
That’s my brother! I’m also very proud of all my CHS alumni who did very well.
a girl from antigua received 18 one hmm
“WOW” … I mean “DOUBLE WOW”… EIGHTEEN ONE’S?- – – well maybe she has DOMINICAN ROOTS anyway congrats to the brainboxes HE an ENGINEER; SHE a ROCKET SCIENTIST.
Son of Itassian AGAIN!!!!!!
CONGRATS O’NEAL LEBLANC ! I LOVE TO SEE OUR YOUTH SUCCEED!
Your Dad and I met at SMA – same class 101. He always strove for the best. I’m happy you did likewise. More success.
What I like most about this young man is his apparent humility: giving so many people credit for helping him achieve this level of success is just pleasant to my heart. I believe there is nothing more humbling than pursuing knowledge: A hammer is a tool used by a carpenter, a spanner is a tool used by a mechanic, mathematics is a tool used to solve problems. The more knowledge you gain is the more you begin to realize how much you do not know, and therefore how much more you have to learn.
With this level of (my observation) his humility, I am confident he will be willing to accept criticism which will make him an even more powerful student.
Learn from every opportunity available to you. Everyone has something to offer: take the good; the bad, try to understand it so you do not fall victim to it.
Please stay on this right path. I am a teacher in the USA, but I am a proud bread and buttered Dominican. I always tell parents, these children are yours. There are 24 hours in a day, and a teacher have your child about 5-7 hours the most. The balance of the hours, is the parents responsibility to make sure their child is eating, sleeping, studying etc.
It is not the government or the teachers full responsibility. I always tell them it takes a village to raise a child, but it is the parent/parents duty to see the child works to the best of their ability. As with everything in life, some people are in certain jobs, not for the love of the job, buy MONEY. I know what I am talking about. I have other brothers and sisters that were teachers, and some just did it for the money and all the vacation. Eventually all of them are doing the jobs the really love.
Young man, the sky is the limit. Do not let any negative person/people try to derail or say you cannot do it. KEEP ON, KEEPING ON. DON’T GIVE UP WITH GOD AS YOUR FOUNDATION. Other young people, I hope you all do the same. NEVER GIVE UP.
congratulations to all the hard working students. Keep up the good work.
Congratulations O’Neil. Hard work in studies does pay off. Also a little help from others, as you mentioned your family and teacher, certainly helped you. Being ambitious, you will keep at it and excel higher. Good luck in your future endeavors.
Congratulation Oneal, good luck and God’s blessing towards the future. Your parents is very proud of you. Your grandpa Oneal is smiling in his grave.
DNO
I am confused as to why you have in two stories omitted the PCSS students who scored the same grades as Alex Maree.
It’s easy, if the passing rate for an A is 95%. If Alex-Maree scored 99% and PCSS scored 98%. who do you believe is the top? Use your brains my people. Every year is the same explanation the Ministry of Education has to give.
Because is “you-know-where”
Congrats O’ Neil. We knew you would have done it!! We are so proud of you. Keep striving for excellence always! Remember Ora et Labora!!
very well u did great sma got it spot even doe convent didnt get it
But it is deliberate man that the other student who obtained 10 ONES and 1 TWO is left out.!!!!
AWA MAN!
What a wonderful achievement for O’Neil and his family! Congrats and best wishes.
Young man, I salute you. not only for your achievement but your maturity in determining your employment prospects as it relates to your career choice. If I were you I would put CE before ARch. but I have a feeling you have a passion for architecture already. at any rate you are on the right track.
Congratulations guys, very proud of you. To my cuz Alex Maree Roberts, I am very proud of you, good job. Continue to be focussed.
And Elisha Titre from Pierre Charles Secondary obtained 10 grade Ones and 1 grade Two!
Father assisting him in maths and physics….genees played a role…so he is right to thank God for such a gift…..intelegence is half hereditary
Genes…..too bad one of my parent is an idiot…I probably got their gene
Oh boy! Why did you state that? Everyone does not possess the identical intellect. Where one excels, the other may not and vice versa. This is the way the ball rolls. However, God gave everyone a certain degree of intelligence, suited to them for their state in life.
I got it.
Sorry eh but you made me laugh out really loud on that one!
congratulations young man . you have made yourself ,your country and your family proud
Wonderful Job O’Neal I know that Tony and Jess are extremely thankful to God for your success. I know too that they are very proud of you. God Bless. Remain the fine person that we all know you to be. Great Job!!!!!Congratulations
