Residents of Dominica interested in post-graduate studies in the United Kingdom now have the opportunity to do so under the Chevening Scholarship Scheme.
The scheme is presently accepting applications from interested persons on the island for the 2013/2014 cycle.
According to the scheme’s website, applications to study in a wide range of subject areas are accepted. However, the scheme particularly welcomes applications in the following fields:
-International Relations/ Foreign Affairs/ International Development
-Climate Change and Energy
-Law
-Economics, Banking and Finance
-Human Rights
The purpose of the scholarship is “to attract talented professionals who have been identified as potential future leaders, decision-makers and opinion formers,” the website states.
Recipients receive financial support to study at some of the UK’s leading universities and are given the opportunity to become part of an “influential and highly regarded global network.”
Since its establishment in 1984, over 200 professionals from Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean have been awarded Chevening Scholarships to study in the UK.
Leading alumni include the Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda, three members of the Cabinet of St Lucia, one of the judges in the Caribbean Court of Justice, two Directors of Public Prosecutions and many journalists, business people, academics, diplomats and government officials.
Deadline for receipt of applications is December 7, 2012.
