The Kiwanis Club of Roseau is closing the curtains on this season’s National High School Debates with a match-up between current champions, Orion Academy, and the Portsmouth Secondary School (PSS).
The two will face each other on Wednesday April 30th, at 3:30 pm at the Dominica State College Auditorium.
As science has gained traction over the past few centuries, many have looked to science and technology as a career choice, fearing that pursuit of the arts may not reap the rewards it once may have.
Hence, the teams will do battle over the question: “Science Has Contributed More to Mankind than the Arts”
Club President, Khonda Hamlet, is pleased to end the debate odyssey in the realm of academia.
She notes that the topics for this year’s debates have been wide ranging: investigating whether formal education is necessary for political leadership; exploring the issue of the legalization of marijuana; questioning the value of the jury system as well as social welfare systems’ and sorting through the differences between ethics and morality.
Hamlet has gone on to suggest that as Kiwanis signature activity for the past two decades, many schools and students partaking in these debates have been introduced to a world of research, sportsmanship, self-expression and public speaking.
The club expresses gratitude to the schools which have participated, scores of individuals who have assisted through judging, or the business houses who continue to support this activity, including Springfield Trading, Dominica Brewery and Beverages, Signman, National Bank of Dominica, Jays Bookstore, UWI Open Campus and the Dominica State College. The debate will be broadcast live on DBS Radio.
I would love to that school but I can’t because my parents don’t have enough for us to go
