The Kiwanis Club of Roseau has closed the curtain on its 2014 debate season, with Orion Academy retaining their champions title.

Orion’s team, comprising Natalia Nassief and Katrina Smith, edged out Portsmouth Secondary’s Ayma George and Devon Brewster by 21.5 points, with a final score of 289 to 267.5.

However, Portsmouth Secondary’s Amy George was deemed best speaker.

The topic, “Science has contributed more to mankind than Arts” saw the debaters put forth a wealth of research, and practical evidence, and this sentiment was echoed by Chief Judge Dr Clayton Shillingford who described the debate as one of a high standard.

The other judges were Roberta Allport and Tiyani Behanzin.

Kiwanis has described this debate season as challenging, but a rewarding nonetheless. The club has lamented the waning public interest in debates, and hopes that more support will be shown to the positive efforts of the nation’s young people.

Congrats job well done. Permit me to use this medium with a great concern for youth support. The comments are lacking for these young people. I notice that for the Tourism debate and the Science debate comments are not forth coming .WHY?
