“I am very proud of myself and I realized that I have worked hard and I have achieved what I wanted to achieve,” top student in the Grade Six National Assessment, Mallet P Marie, 11, of the Pioneer Preparatory School has said.
The top scholar told DNO, “even though there were some things that I couldn’t do as much anymore, I made do with it and it paid off.”
He pointed out that Mathematics is his strongest subject and he is hoping to achieve even more at high school level and when he grows up he will “still try to achieve”.
Marie’s advise to young people is to never give up on their hobbies.
“Some people, they have a lot of hobbies, but even if you are in grade six doing National Assessment, you don’t have to stop,” he noted.
Marie revealed that he wants to become a Marine Biologist when he grows up.
Meantime, Adam Thomas, 11, who placed second in the exams, said following the announcement of the results he was at first “overwhelmed” but then he felt “very proud”.
“I think it’s not just studying, you have to think of what you are studying for and think of what you are studying before you study,” the student, also from Pioneer Prep, said. “When you get the notes you can just think about it before you get home and study.”
Thomas indicated that when he enters high school he will work hard in order to excel.
Father of the top scholar, Dr. Mallet Marie, noted that he always knew his son had the capability to make it to the top.
“He has been our hard worker throughout…,” he stated. “Half of his childhood was spent in Barbados and even there he excelled and he showed that he always had the potential to be a top student, so we are very proud of him.”
He described his son as a very active young man who shows interest in football, music theory, and piano. He is also a member of the St Alphonsus Scout Troop.
“He has shown that he can mix academics as well as sports,” the proud father said.
Dr. Marie mentioned that Mallet’s sister, Munirih Marie, also provided him with support leading up to the exams.
Thomas’ mother, Carla Armour, said she is proud of her son.
“I am very proud but hugely relieved… it cost us a lot of hard work,” she said.
She revealed that her son loves to excel in everything and is also Mallet’s best friend.
“He said to me since September if anybody has to beat him in first place, it is going to be Mallet,” she noted.
She added, “Adam worked with his tutors very hard, he worked with his teachers very hard…we are so proud of Pioneer as well.”
Three students from the Petite Savanne Primary School were among the top five performers.
They are Hallie Francis (third), Samin Darroux (fourth), Sherdina Antoine (fifth) and DNO is seeking to interview them.
The results of the Grade Six National Assessement were released on Tuesday.
This year, a total of 1058 students wrote the examinations; 532 females and 526 males.
Eighty-eight students were awarded scholarships and 132 were awarded bursaries.
The amounts allocated to scholars and bursaries for textbooks and stationery are $500 and $300 respectively.

Congratulations to all successful pupils and especially to the top five. it would be interesting to follow these five in a longitudinal study to form five and see if their performance is maintained.

Congrats to Doctor Marie and family..the apple does not fall far from the tree..big up from PMH
What? that look suspicious
Yeah….it will look suspicious because Roseau and environs did not take top 5.
Congratulations boys . Wish you all success at your secondary and tietary levels,
This is amazing. My alma mater at the top! Excellent job Mallet and Adam, you’ve done it!! Continue to maintain your work ethic in all your future endeavors. Ms Robinson probably screaming out in pure joy xD. Excellent work to the families, staff and everyone else actively involved. Congratulations to all other hard working students; you put in a lot of work and sacrifice to do this exam.
I’m so happy that “country” schools do extremely well!
That will help motivate these hard working teachers and teach parents that your children can do well in whichever school they are. There is no need to expose students to the additional risks associated with commuting to an urban school.
I do understand some parents do not have much options since they work in Roseau so their children have to be with them. There are many others who will do whatever it takes to have their students schooled at the “best schools”. Here we go, send them to Petite Savanne!!!!
You are so right. I attended the massacre primary school and I got a scholarship in my days. That’s when we had a great teacher called Sir Joseph from Massacre.
there’re so cute congrats
