RBC Royal Bank of Canada raises $10,500 for cancer fund

On September 25, 2010, more than 200 RBC employees, clients and community members gathered at 5 a.m. on the Bayfront to participate in a fundraising walk/run to benefit the RBC/RBTT Children’s Cancer Fund.

This event, which was one of many sponsored by RBC across the Caribbean region, generated in excess of $10,500 to help families with children battling cancer. Funds are still being collected, and the total amount raised across the Caribbean region will be communicated in early October.

“We are grateful for the tremendous turnout and outpouring of support by our employees, their families and the community,” said Yuri Lazare, Country Head of Dominica. “September is Children’s Cancer Awareness Month, so we’re also pleased to aid in bringing awareness about paediatric cancer.”

Though only two years old, the Children’s Cancer Fund has already assisted children in four countries, including Dominica. It has also provided support for foreign testing of biopsy samples, which results in quicker diagnosis and earlier treatment of cancer when identified.

“The fund has made a major difference in the lives of the families helped,” said Yuri Lazare. “We sincerely thank our sponsors for their role in executing is successful event and look forward to ongoing partnerships with the community as we support children who are fighting this terrible disease.”

Event sponsors included LIME, Josephine Gabriel & Co Ltd, Fine Foods Inc,  J E Nassief, Starrin & Sons,  Green’s Wholesale, Dominica Brewery & Beverages Ltd.

After the walk/run event, an awards ceremony was held. Prizes were awarded to the first 25 participants who completed the walk/run.

Donations for the RBC/RBTT Cancer Fund are still being accepted at all RBC branches.
