The Caribbean Baptist Fellowship (CBF) has set its eyes on Dominica to host the 10th edition of their Youth Festival which takes place from July 23 -27, 2014.

Speaking at the opening ceremony at the Public Service Training Center on Wednesday, Vice President of the Caribbean Baptist Fellowship youth fellowship Trinidadian, Jody Mc Kenna, said the festival is held around the Caribbean ‘every few years.’

In the past the festival, has been held in Guadeloupe, Trinidad, Bahamas and Jamaica, and up to 400 young adults have attended.

“We now bring the excitement to Dominica, where we will meet under the theme ‘Youth on Fire’. The work has been done by the local steering committee headed by our able treasurer, Brother Peter Panthier and Director of Arts and Performances, Brother Karlvin, and the exciting youth of Dominica along with the Caribbean Baptist Youth Department have reinforced by demonstration as god’s people, we have the power to claim victory,” she said.

Mc Kenna said the Caribbean Baptist Fellowship Youth Festival aims “to invade the country and set it on fire.”

“The island has so much more to offer with its preserved culture and vivid history and I believe that this festival is a great way to introduce it,” she noted. “The anticipation of hundreds of young people from around the region to invade Dominica, to express their faith in Christ and for five days setting Dominica on fire is the impression we want to leave at this launch.”

Youth Minister Justina Charles, endorsed the festival and said that the environment which it will create will positively impact the country’s youth.

“And so your gathering next year, and even before, is going to create that network where we can ensure that our young persons are acquainted with the things that exist for their own development … the need to cultivate that culture of respect among young persons, tolerance, patience and all of what is required so that we can see persons deviating from the abnormal behaviors in society …and instead becoming more positive in moving forward,” she remarked.

Minister for Tourism, Ian Douglas, said he is pleased that the CBF has chosen Dominica for the festival.

“For the first time I was introduced to this activity I became really enthused about it,” he said. “I felt that it was a great idea and I wanted to give them all of the encouragement that I possibly could to ensure that it succeeds.”

Douglas noted that many young people think that recreational activities “are only for the secular world.”

“That is why I was really happy about this activity,” he said.

As part of the festival there will be a concert at the Cabrits National Park, a conference at the Dominica State College and various workshops on music and evangelism, among others. It is being held under the theme Youth on Fully Ignited Radically Engaged (FIRE).

Only God knows why Dominica was chosen for this festival this year. May He be glorified in all that will take place.

We should be praying from now till the time come to close, because we wrestle not against flesh and blood but against principalities against powers, against the rulers of darkness of this world against spiritual wickedness in high places.

So we should pray for the youths of Dominica, that they will enjoy this festival, and that many will give their life to Christ. I will keep you all in prayer.
