Mr. Mayor putting all joke/politics aside, we seriously have to do something about Roseau. I hate to be in Roseau when it rains. All the streets are filled with dog mess and I can tell you it is upsetting. Get these dogs off the streets. Is that what we are offering the tourists? It is time that we get our act together. The place is just too unsanitary. It sickens me. I have walked the streets of cities where it your scarf would fall, you would just pick it up with no fear. Let’s do something. It is about time.

ROSEAU STILL DIRTY AND STINKING PEE PEE. Why doesn’t Cecil ask the PM for new Rubbbish trucks ? AS some of you correctly stated the council under MR.Thomas Baptiste many years ago had started some scholarship programe for children in the city who are needy. So this is not very new its just that it caters for a higher level. It is a great idea indeed.

Instead of seeing this as an opportunity for a Dominican to get a chance at further education, many of you are seeing it as the council doing the wrong thing.

when it comes to educating the masses and encouraging further education – THERE IS NO WRONG.

they are doing a good thing. If they have the opportunity to negotiate, outside the MINISTRY OF EDUCATION, for opportunities for Dominican youth – LET THEM DO IT.

the youth needs the further education …that will take them one step closer to a brighter future and greater opportunities.

Instead of complaining…some of you need to take a broom and go help clean up Roseau. Roseau is not the council’s own – it is yours too…so do your part instead of just complaining.

Yes it’s a brilliant idea. But lets get real. The City Council really needs to focus on its core function – taking care of the city. Mr. Joseph could have this initiative under taken by the Ministry of Education.

I wonder what “free service” will the students have to render to council during breaks. Just saying

      It’s called multitasking 8-O

although maybe your point is seeing that Roseau is a just a total mess on every level where are they finding the time and resources to organize scholarships? but I really see no problem with this at all. Think of the children who will benefit.

Better to have children getting an education and Roseau in a mess than Roseau in a mess anyway and no education. So still one step forward. One can’t ask for too much with these guys eh? Cecil must already be so exhausted with this little exercise let him rest.

Would love to see more scholarships to UWI and to Harvard, Yale etc but education on any level is never a bad thing assuming Munroe College is a decent school.

Honestly I think it is a good idea for scholarships to be given, but I don’t think Roseau City council should be the institution giving these scholarships.

They struggle to pay public workers far less to be offering scholarships.

    Just my point of view.

it is very nice to see that the legacy of Mr. Thomas Baptiste is continuing. I could recall discussing such issues with him and also similar objectives with St. JOHN’S in Canada. It was his brain child that led to the computerization of the council and many other forms of assistance to the City in Roseau. He had been very much deeply involved in providing local scholarships to Dominicans many of whom have benefitted from his iniatives in educational provision.

I must congratulate Council for working towards the development of the young people as a critical element in national development. I hope that such grantees be bonded and be called upon to assist Council far beyond a summer type gratis relationship.

The long serving and outstanding late City Boss Mr. Baptiste must be smiling as he looks over the city which he loved and work hard for its advancement for so many years. The folks in Canada and professor Gordon Campbell and some of my colleagues who worked with Baptiste in the late 1980’s must be comforted by such a great news. Thanks to Monroe College and the Roseau City Council for a commendable achievement.

I have to lend my voice in echoing the tremendous efforts of the then Roseau Town /City Boss Thomas Baptiste and this current council for a job well done.

I have known many persons who are now involved in many aspects of national development who were direct beneficiaries of the Scholarship programmes of the Roseau Town Council. This was a known brain child of Mr. Thomas Baptiste. I am happy that the Council has taken his work a step further because the Baptiste plan was merely aimed at assisting students from the municipality of Roseau at the Primary and Secondary School level. This current approach is an expansion of it and Council may even consider renaming the Monroe scholarship in the memory of TOM BAPTISTE.

It is rather unfortunate that persons are taking cheap shots at the esteemed albeit controversial Mayor Cecil Joseph. The Education which an individual attains does not gain or lack its viability based on who is in power. I deploy such attacks on “His Lordship” Ceco!!!!!! and wish the Council long life and continued success.
It is indeed a progressive step and thank you Monroe College for this partnership in development of our youths.
You cannot keep a good man down!

Really? On the farm we have a saying, ” Donkey have no right in horse race”. Why is Roseau City Council involved in scholarships open to all Dominicans? The Mayor and Council should stick to matters of interest to Roseau and let scholarships to Monroe College be handled by the senior government or some organization with a mandate for education.

How about focussing on rodent control, stray dogs or sanitation in Roseau?

I agree with you wholeheartedly. When the council can show people that they have done all that is withon their purview, then they can branch out into other areas. The sidewalks are crumbling and they are spening money on scholarships. That is not the job of the city council.

Good intention, but they should maintain their focus on key elements of their duties.

William are you serious?????? I think that we jump on the bandwagon because a lot of other persons are riding it. This is a Roseau City initiative and let me tell you something, I as an individual and also you as an individual can collaborate and be helping in the development of our country. We all have persons overseas and many times they will look for ways and means to help less fortunate ones back home and in the process they go the universities etc so because it is council, they should tell the organisation back out and go to the Education department??? I think a lot of us just like to talk instead of embracing opportunities and the time we take to criticise iniatives, those have long gone and left us. Oppurtunities lost can never be regained. Why not volunteer yourself to assist in the areas where you think Council is lacking or needs assistance. Tooo much parler, parler, talk and too much thinking of politics in everything. Election over until next time around now is Nation building and developing regardless of what colour we voted for.

Also leave Cecil alone. It is not the Mayor running the office alone. There is an Administrative staff and other workers. Make yourself knowledgeable on the workings of Offices.
