Three students who excelled in a regional contest held as part of the activities for Financial Information Month (FIM) 2013, received their awards during their school’s assembly.
Anil Chambers of the Dominica Grammar School (DGS), who captured the ‘Best in Country” prize received his award on Monday while Nia Sorhaindo and Jawole Joseph, of the Convent High School (CHS) who secured the third position, received theirs last Friday.
The Business and Innovation Contest was a joint partnership between the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB) and the National Bank of Dominica Ltd. (NBD).
“We take our role in any type of educational development activity very seriously and are happy to partner with ECCB to challenge young minds in this way,” Suzanne Joseph-Piper, Executive Manager, Marketing and Product Management for the NBD, said.
For the contest, high school students around the island were presented with an opportunity to create and launch a new business venture. They were expected to design a comprehensive business plan to present their ideas. The business plans were judged on presentation, definition of business plan, originality and creativity (innovativeness) and viability.
The CHS team, who presented on “The Art Entertainment Centre,” stated that they were both “happy and surprised” when they received the news that they had earned third place in the competition.
“We were very determined but were still flabbergasted,” Nia Sorhaindo stated after being presented with her award.
