Teachers sharpen their skills at summer workshop

The Dominica Association of Teacher (DAT), the Caribbean Teachers Federation (CTF) and the Ministry of Education have just concluded their 2010 Summer Workshop.

The workshop was held at the Convent High School Auditorium.

DAT’s second vice president  and former Public Relations Officer Francis Jno Lewis says throughout the past two weeks, teachers from around Dominica were involved in early childhood education and literacy through drama, special education and visual arts.

“We had teachers from Canada teaming up with local teachers. Teachers from preschool through primary and secondary schools were engaged in active sessions for two weeks. We have seen a record number of participants over the years and they continue to grow,” he said.

According to Jno Lewis, the summer workshop has become an institution of learning and training for the professional development of all teachers in Dominica.

“This year we were surprised at the number who turned out and we have seen over 160 teachers. Teachers are apparently seeking to sharpen their teaching skills and that’s a good thing,” he said.
