The Leo Club of Dominica awards a scholarship

Under the District’s theme, ‘Serving from the Heart with Kindness’, the Leo Club of Dominica continues to adapt to the new normal through this Covid-19 pandemic by executing service activities to people in need.

The Club’s recent service activity concentrated on Early Childhood Education, which is encouraged for the healthy development and nurturing of human beings of a solid and broad foundation for lifelong learning and wellbeing. In an on-going effort to support Early Childhood Education, the Club awarded a one Year full Scholarship to a pre-school student in need. This scholarship is a signature project of the Club as scholarships are awarded annually. This year’s Award went to a pre-school student from the community of Soufriere. The Scholarship comprised of school uniforms, school books and stationary and the annual school fee.

Early Childhood Director, Mackisha Bellot expressed that early childhood education provided strong building blocks for lifelong achievements and productivity. Vice President, Ameka Cognet also expressed that education was the most powerful tool in the uplifting of a society and being able to see the joy on the toddler’s face after receiving the scholarship material, was a sign that the little ones were curious to learn. She further informed that the Club was elated to have offered this toddler the opportunity to start school, with the joy of knowing that she had everything that was needed for a comfortable and successful start to her educational journey.

The Club aims to continue to execute projects in the spirit of volunteerism and community involvement as they aid the less fortunate and serve members throughout the community.
