Elimination round of NiPP’s Gospel Song Contest: Season 2 kicks off tonight

The elimination round of the National Institute for Praise Production (NIPP) Gospel Song Contest Season 2, which was originally set for October 21, but rescheduled due to hurricane Tammy, will be staged tonight November 11th at the Bill Daniel Memorial Park in Goodwill. It will begin promptly at 8:00 pm.

Twenty-one artists/singers will perform an original song in a music genre of their choice ranging from afrobeat to zouk gospel. Eleven will then be selected to move on to the grand finale, which is scheduled for December 9th, 2023, at the same venue. The singers/artists will be judged on lyrics (25), melody (10), vocal clarity (15), personality (15), and presentation (35).

By all accounts, patrons, will be treated to a wonderful night of soul-stirring gospel music on a scale and level of professionalism never before seen in Dominica. The songs will lift up the name of Jesus, and inspire and build the faith of God’s people. “Our goal,” says Ken Robinson CEO of NIPP, “is not just to showcase the amazing musical talent and artistry of the people who write, compose, and perform gospel music in Dominica, but also to push back against the vile and sexually explicit content taking over the airwaves and entertainment, and more importantly, lift up the name of Jesus.”

Although the show is being staged as a competition, the participants have embraced it as an opportunity for ministry. “I don’t see it as a competition,” says Hope Olaleru, one of the artists carded to perform this evening. “I see it as a means to promote the gospel, to tell others about Jesus through the ministry of music. I also see it as a means of healing, and as a means of revival.”

The artists performing at tonight’s show hail from far away as Penville in the Northeast to Grand Bay in the South, and so, patrons are expected from across the island.

Tickets for the NIPP Gospel Song Contest are available at Robinson’s Bakery, Bulls Eye Pharmacy and as well as at the gate. People in the disaspora, as well as those on island, who for one reason or the other just can’t make it to park, can still view the show via livestream at https://multisolutionsinc.com/nipp?fbclid=IwAR2REWAWZZl6yHV96EIZv2s93dF-hVHor3OoZe8QhTwOehaBp8jS5VMwQN0
