Minister for Energy Dr. Vince Henderson led a delegation on a special site visit to the Geothermal Development Project in Laudat this week to witness the progress made on the project thus far.
The Geothermal project has reached a new phase with the completion of the well for backup production.
“It’s a very exciting time for us, the fact that we have gotten to this stage quicker than expected…,” he said. “It was estimated that it would take 47 days, but it actually took them 37 days to get to this point.”
Dr. Henderson continued, “And the fact that we did not have to go deeper than 1385 meters this is great news, so we have gotten to a stage where the contractors have said to us, yes this is it, we think we have found it, but it has to be tested in order to determine the quality and the quantity of the resource that is available here.”
He pointed out that 10 megawatts is already being generated from the wells at P1, closer to the village.
“We have a well there with 10 megawatts and we have a smaller well about 2 megawatts,” Dr. Henderson explained. “So we have enough, enough steam to be able to construct a 10 megawatt power plant.”
He added, “For this well, the results will tell us how far we can go without having to drill another well.”
Meanwhile, Dr. Henderson said this means that the electricity/energy problem can be solved right here, “these wells we have already drilled.”
“We can provide power to meet all of our demands and with an increase, even with an international airport, and new hotels, we can generate at least 20 megawatts from what we have already drilled,” Dr. Henderson revealed.
It would be helpful if the information could be clarified.
I think that Dr H is saying that that there are two geothermal-well sites; P1 and ??(this new one).
P1 is said to be capable of providing steam sufficient for a 12MW plant (10MW + 2MW) and ?? is hoped to be capable of providing steam for an 8MW plant so as to give a total of 20MW (12 + 8).
The present fossil-fuel (Diesel) plant has a capability (according to the UN) to produce a maximum of 175.34GWhrs p.a. which equates to 20MW (i.e.175.34 / (24hrs X 365days)) so the P1 and ?? wells (when mated up to their matching generator plant) should be capable of completely replacing the Diesel plant.
I think that this is what is being said – but is it?
Dominica is a BIG joke! The world keeps laughing at all this moronic behavior that’s been going on forever.. 🤡s
Vince time is catching with you ,karma is a B. You went on the world stage and lie on Salisbury people by saying they who shut the people while you and your goons send forces to tear gas and shoot at them, we have you on video thats evidence to nail you when the time come . You a such a liar when they ask you the question you were surprise , the rest of the panel saw right through you your liar. We waiting for you in Salisbury.
Well, the first time when that incompetent clown was in Roosevelt government as a minister, of pit-hole toilet I saw him stood over a pit-hole while someone digging the hole as he claimed he the incompetent Henderson was declaring war on pit-hole in Dominica.
Sad to say there are still thousands of people is a country with less than fifty thousand people residence still squatting over the pit-holes.
This is someone who cannot express himself in the English language: the word is supposed to be “thousand” Henderson pronunciation is “Townson.” You thought you would be in America forever? Remember I told you even if Roosevelt left you here for a hundred years, you would never have residence, or become an American, and if you have children here, they are still Dominicans, not Americans.
No need to remind you that Melisa dropped Roosevelt children here, so they are born Americans, they will run to America, and sponsor Roosevelt, where will you run?
Vince your feature resembles that of a real geothermal. Something of the past.
DNO, thanks for the bringing in the News for the past plus years..
Isn’t that the pic shown, is about 10 years old…
The New Minister of Energy has no clue of what’s going for this project….
He will come to say that the airport is on stream and planes are ready to land…
Hello and good morning my people. Mr Henderson you are the third Energy Minister in twelve years to tell us this project is ahead of completion and it will be producing electricity for us. The Chinesse could have built three dams which would have five turbines each on the Rivers, one in the north, one in Central and one in the south which would provide all the electricity we need. This country is full of white elephants where our money is being wasted.
I don’t know….don’t think that damns are the way of the future. Great environmental damage from construction and questionable sustainability in a changing climate.
But get your point on the viability of the project. Do hope that it succeeds though. Would need to get to 100 Megawatts.
And with the plant set to eventually produce enough to supply the country and sell the excess, I sincerely hope that our electricity tarrifs drop drastically.
3rd highest electricity tarrifs in the world.
Don’t look for jobs, geothermal plants employ next to no one
Vince Henderson was a colossal failure as a minister of government. This carpet bagger has been recycled to no avail. Ineptitude has dogged him as a former minister, UN ambassador, and will continue to do so for the rest of his life.
How long have Dominicans been waiting for this ghost project to materialize? For eons!
The only time that one should believe Roosevelt and his sheep-like apostles is when the mission at hand is accomplished.
Is this thing really happening or a place money goes to die?
It another place where money can be laundered. Has anybody ever seen accounts for this white elephant?
Robby, you are so correct. There’s no transparency nor accountability with all these multi-million dollar projects. This is the most popular method used by corrupt politicians to siphon off money intended for the public good. Why do you think the ministers and party diehards of the ruling kakistocracy live in unimaginable opulence from the paltry salaries of a civil servant?
This new position is obviously too new for you, bro. Looks like it’s taking a toll on you. It’s no joke dealing with CoCo Macqak. It’s a heavy load to carry. Some of de boys dem flying all night like Bat-Man, and have no energy in the day to work. Ladies on their broom and stick and falling asleep in the office. Those with dark black heavy tinted windows falling asleep in their vehicles. It’s not easy wah go wan pan this corn tree.
Quicker than expected? really? This project is over 10 years old. And what does this even mean
“He pointed out that 10 megawatts is already being generated from the wells at P1, closer to the village.”
10 megawatts of what? Steam? So we can power our homes and businesses with that?
How can it be quicker than expected? It’s ten years late.
Dominica may run out of gasoline, but it won’t run out of Liars. Hypocrites
Them guys have done so much harm to Dominica, just look at him in the picture.
All of them have to “FINI MAL”.
See how he come!!!
May-Chans- Tay!!!
What will be the impact on rainfall, due to increased humidity from the influence of atmospheric heat generated, within the scope of influence of the operation of this facility, especially the valley leading to Roseau?
Why is it that Roosevelt and all of his sheeplike accomplices always paint such enchanting pictures of the future of Dominica but have nothing tangible to showcase at present? People want tangible accomplishments not apparitions.
Promises made are like a debt that’s unpaid. This regime owes billions in broken promises.
Accurate!! 💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯🎯
It would be interesting to know how much money have been spent on this geothermal project thus far..I know that in any other country, with that cost, the project would be up and running…!!
Yawwwwwnnnnnn
Boy I sleeping on me!!!
So boring
In light of the fuel crisis, I knew he would soon turn to something else, one of those famous Fata Morganas of Dominica. Next thing he will tell us that the Fata Morgana airport is well on schedule. If that doesn’t help, he will ask Skerrit to construct a couple more apartments and repair a bridge.
