UPDATED: 11 selected for Q-Talent finals (SEE PHOTO GALLERY)

Royette Laurent, one of the 11 finalists.

Twenty-one became 11 as some of Dominica’s most talented vocalists took to the stage of Harlem Plaza on Saturday night to secure their spots in the Q-Talent search finals slated for October 24 and a chance to win the first place $15,000 prize value.

After almost three and a half hours of sheer talent and over 30 minutes of deliberations, the judges made their choices – choices that seemed to hit the organizers, presenters and the fans like a shock wave.

Those that will advance include, in no particular order:

ASHER THOMASO12PAIX BOUCHE
CREFT LEE LODGRICKO21FORTUNE
DELAH GACHETTEO20ELMSHALL
ERSLINE FABIANO24GRAND BAY
GLEN THEOPHILEO22BOETICA
KARLVIN DERAVARIEREO15FOND COLE
KAY LOUISYOO4MAHAUT
RAHEEM HENDERSONO33EGGLESTON
ROYETTE LAURENTO19PORTSMOUTH
SHERLYN HILLO23POINT MICHEL
TINA ALFREDO30BATH ESTATE

Last night’s event took a slightly different twist as the performers were divided into three segments, seven apiece. Organizers also opted to include crowd participation, keeping this event somewhat livelier than the ones that preceded it.

The selection panel, charged with the participants’ faith of advancement, included renowned local music teachers, directors, performers and songwriters, who have established themselves in their chosen fields throughout the Caribbean, North America and Europe.

The Q-Talent Search is a Q95FM Radio production, aimed at discovering Dominicans from across the island with the best singing and performing talents and provide them with a medium through which they can display that talent.

Fifteen percent of the points awarded to determine their selection came from fans’ text message voting.

Saturday night’s popular picks in genre included calypso, soul, R&B and gospel.

The individuals in the top four places will receive prizes ranging from EC$1,000 to EC$15,000 in cash and valuables.

@Anonymous: i would assume that Della attire was appropriate for her song.. she dressed like an angel and i assumed the silver thing on her head was like a halo…

everyone who made it to the finals deserved their spot despite what you Dominicans think…. when youths doing bad things dominicans always there to comment oh the youth of now adays this and that.. now we are trying to do something for ourselves domincans are not bringing us up instead they are bringing us down.. that’s not the way to be… all we asking is for support whether or nt u like us os whatever the case may be.

@present at the show: U were present at the show but you’re not one of the judges. i’m pretty sure that there was a criteria that the judges was looking for… it wasn’t only in song but presentation, vocals, crowd appeal i would assume.

@anonymous: i agree with anonymous norrissia peltier sang exceptionally well she handled her song like a pro and much better than tina royette and erslyn. these three do not deserve to be in the finals marist charles has a unique voice and she handled her song really well she sings the same way she speaks so it’s obvious she wasnt singing in her nose. an i think tamika jude was the girl singing alabaster box, but her performance was different from all others that night she dared to be different and sing a slow song which may i add touched me and many others.

@its just sad: Thanks and indeed erslyn did step up…. u know how hard she worked to be where she is… she’s getting the hang of being a performer.. not all of us can perform on stage yes we can sing that’s true but not all can present a song the way we should.. so i really think we should all be commended on doing OUR BEST. that’s all we could have given allu..

@anonymous: the judges decision is final….and remember is not only the judges but crowd appeal… tamika went off in her song. a song where she had to step up. same thing with marist her song was a nice song but i doe think that was the best song to sing at a semi finals show. norrisia should have been placed yes but i don’t know what happened… anyway congrats to everyone… the top 11 has been chosen so let’s just deal with that and hope that the person who wins this is the best

congratulations to all the finalists. The show was well judged. The judges did a great job. and pple have friends texting for them which did the rest. The boys last night outshone the girls, Asher, Karlvin and Creftley they were extra good, I see great things happening for them. Congrats!!

    September 26, 2010

@anonymous: We mustnot say it wasn’t ell judged because thejudges ca only do so much don’t forget that the texting carries heavily, 25% of the points so you cannot blame the judges, after they judge the texts change everything. for example if youhave somebody getting 30 points from the judges and 10 from texts that’s a great difference unlike someone else with 30 points and getting 1 point from texts.

  23. its just sad
    September 26, 2010

Its just sad that instead of bringing up our young people we bring them down….they were all good but some just didn’t make it..ITs not the end of the world they will make it another time…but I don’t think that we should jump on erslyn’s back because she did well…Congrats girl….I hope u do well in the finals….royette laurent you were great also keep it up….good luck girls
