A thirteen year old St. Mary’s Academy student has taken the top spot in the Q95 under 16 singing competition which was held at the Arawak House of Culture on Saturday.
Carsim Birmingham of Soufriere, ousted 11 other competitors in the final leg of the contest, to walk away with $4,800 in cash and prizes.
Shayanne Lake of Canefield came second and received $2,600 in cash and prizes.
Meliah Ferreria of Canefeild won $1,700 in cash and prizes as third place winner.
Ifa Georges of Paix Bouche took the fourth spot which earned her $1,400 in cash and prizes.
The competition, now in its second year and which was done for the first time under lights and camera, aims to give younger people a chance to show off their singing abilities. Previously, it was was done entirely on the radio via telephone.
Coordinator of the event, Jael Jospeh, said in an interview with DNO that it will serve as a guide for the bigger Q Talent Search competition.
“This year we decided because of the talent and the quality of the talent we got last year, we decided that we are going to bring people to a stage. Because we find that a lot of the young persons are very talented; sort of like molding them, getting them prepared for the over 16 big competition. We like to call it the QTS competition.”
The Under 16 competition included three rounds which were conducted live on radio. In the first round, the public was asked to vote for participants who called in to sing on the radio. Those who received the most votes then went on to battle each other in the second round during which the top 12 were chosen to compete in the final round on stage on Saturday.

The show was a great one. These young minds have to be developed it is just sad that there are no opportunities for them in DA. Carsim needs to have an agent to develop this wonderful talent. Congratulations to all the participants.
Congratulations to all the participants, and to the winners good job proud of our little ones, thanks to Q95, Jael and all the sponsors, for keeping them focus.
