Shenell Edmonds, an actress whose mother hails from Dominica, has had her work submitted for a nomination at the 2012 NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Actress in a Daytime Drama Series.
Edmonds plays “Destiny Evans” on the daytime series ‘One Life to Live.’
On its website the NAACP Image Awards describes itself as the premier multi-cultural awards show in the United States celebrating the outstanding achievements and performances of people of color in the arts (television, recording, literature, motion picture and writing & directing), as well as those individuals or groups who promote social justice through their creative endeavors.
Edmonds began acting when she was eight years old and her first paid acting job was a radio commercial for Lowe’s Home Improvement. She said when she was asked to audition for ‘One Life to Live,’ she had never seen the soap and never imagined she would land the gig. “I started screaming and shaking in the car and crying. It was amazing,” she told Soap Opera Digest. She joined the cast in 2009.
In 2008, Edmonds played Casey in the short family film ‘Couples Only.’
Edmonds describes herself as an ‘American/West Indian’ and said she enjoys traveling to Dominica where her mother was born.

These children are always in Dominica, they’re always coming to Dominica but are low key and just hang around family and friends.Real nice quiet people who never forgot Tarish and Pottersville.

I know this little lady personally man and she is a sweet and conscious girl. She is very much Dominican to heart.
I do not watch soaps, but I viewed One Life to Live just to see her act and I felt proud man.
Every Dominican event that I have gone to in the US for this year I have seen her there.
