UPDATED: Addisa Jno-Baptiste of St. Martin Primary tops Ti Matador 2010

Ten-year-old Addisa Jno-Baptise of the St Martin Primary School has been crowned Ti Matador 2010.

She outdid six fellow contestants, winning the titles of Best Spectacular Wear and Best in National Wear this evening.

Aniel Pacquette of the Grand Bay Primary School secured the first runner-up position while Shaihda Francois got the second runner-up spot. François also won the title of Best Performing Arts

Michanda Dorsette of the Will Strathmore Stevens Primary School placed third. She received the award for Best Pawol Kweyol.

The other contestants were Sherniah Alexander of the St Luke’s Primary School and Tajuana Honore of the Thibaud Primary School. Mia Jones also represented the Convent Preparatory School.

It would have been a disappointment if crowd favourite Jno-Baptiste had not won the competition. Down to the final two contestants, screaming supporters kept on chanting her name, almost certain that she would have been crowned.

She appeared in a wooden close peg costume during her successful Spectacular Wear round and danced to a song titled ‘Oh Africa’ in a fitting costume in the performing arts segment. She was sponsored by Central Cooperative Credit Union.

After each of her appearances on the stage, there was a deafening cheer from the crowd.

Meanwhile, Dorsette, who presented her Pawol Kweyol in her “cocoy” dialect, impressed the judges.

Francois, who topped the Performing Arts segment, was well received by the crowd when she presented a choral speech themed on the name of her community, “Paix Bouche” which means shut up. She spoke against the persons who constantly speak on the talk shows against the progress and development of their country.

The show was held at the Krazy Kokonuts and was organised by the Performing Arts Workshop.

    @At the show:

    I was at the show and you need to know that you tuck in the skirt the first time on the side ant to go out off stage in the center. You must do your research before talking and for your information, there was no time limit given to the young ladies for the jupe round. Find out information before you just say what you want.

    @interested: From someone who studies pageants i can truly say that the costume was not repeated. The material used may have been the same but the design was different. So if it is not wrong for the young lady to use a song from another talent years ago, why should it be wrong for miss jnobaptiste to dance to a song?

    @interested:
    If you were at the show…Ms. Grandbay after tucking in her jupe she went right back and took it out…allowing her to stay on stage even longer than required….she lost all if most of her points by doing this…

    It was clear that the young girl from St. Martin’s Primary was the most consistent…hence coping the title of Ti Matador….job well done little girl…expecting greater things from you in the future…

    The talent the person was speaking of, was that of the reigning Carnival Princess – Selena Cuffy of Convent Prep…she danced to that exact song last year at her school’s pageant as well as the 4H Club pageant…which she won locally and regionally…Ms. Cuffy was 1st runner up at last yr’s Ti Matador Show…

    It’s nice that every year Grandbay has been doing well…but not every year one can expect to win…Congratulation to the other competitors…In my opinion, i would have placed Marigot before Grandbay…my opinion….:)

    The person who put the comment about the talent from grandbay being a copy cat needs to research before they put lies on the internet. The talent was not a copy cat, the sone was used in the talent some years ago but the talent was not the same, I should know i was part of this. it doesn’t mean that because someone uses a song it is the same, we must stop this nonesense. What the person should say is charlene white should copyright her things when she chaperone people and they win a competition and other people come to do the exact same thing. if you look at miss wob dwiyet when mahalia richards won, the spectacular wear performance from the st martin school child is an exact copy cat of mahalia’s cocoye moves and even the song was the same. that is not originality, she should loose points for this.

    I believe st martin should not win best in jupe either she was not graceful and she did not display her jupe well at all and when she tucked in it fell back down.
    Grand Bay primary however was consistant and even though she was bit long on stage in her jupe, we must not forget that the shildren are to display their jupe gracefully not run off the stage. her song was slower than the others so it is obvious she would have had to spend more time on the stage. she was the best in this round without a doubt. graceful and beautiful.

    however the judges decision is final so congrats to st martin and also to grand bay primary and all the other young ladies they did a great job.

    First of all congratulations, that child performed wonderfully, i listened on the radio. Can someone answer: why such an event that has to do with children, and all Dominicans alike be held at the property of a person who is so well acclaimed as opposing or pro one politcal party. Basically, is Ti-Matador and “Crazy T” show our is it a Dominican event?

    Congratulations to beautiful Addisa Jno-Baptiste for winning the Ti Matador 2010. You have obviously tried your best and deserve to be the winner.
    To the other young ladies, you also are beautiful and have done your best. Congratulations to you as well.
    As always, I am certain that the judges had a difficult time in deciding on the winner.
    There is a saying: “If at first you do not succeed (for the first prize) try again. There will be other years. You are young, just stepping out :-). You have many years yet. When you grow older you should vie for the Miss Dominica crown. Enjoy all your achievements.

    Proud Dominican it’s because of people like you that’s why our beloved Dominica will go nowhere. Every time a pageant is held once the result isn’t in our favor then we go about basking negativity. How are the children the future generation then supposed to behave when we as adults act a fool. Grow up man and just congratulate the child on her accomplishments. Whilst Grandbay was my # 1 Addisa out did her tonight. I was at the show I saw and I am convinced the judges got it right. I am disappointed that Grandbay didn’t win but I won’t stoop to your level. Congrats Adissa Well Done!

    Aniel, you are still and will always be our ti matador, no matter what the results may have been… The judges ensured that Grand Bay didnt get it 3 times in a row, but this will still not deter the people of Grand Bay from moving forward.
