Asher Thomas of Paix Bouche is the first Q-Talent Search winner.
Thomas claimed the crown at Sunday night’s title challenge at the Harlem Plaza in the face of stiff competition from finalists from across the island.
Thomas, who recently graduated from the Dominica State College with an Associates Degree in Geography, will collect his $15,000 purse on December 4 at the Arawak House of Culture in Roseau.
Other winners include Tina Alfred, first runner-up from Bath Estate; Karlvin Deravariere, second runner-up from Fond Cole; and Kay Louisy, third runner-up from Mahaut. They will all receive cash and prizes valued at $10,000, $5,000, and $2,000, respectively.
The seven other consolation prize winners include Creft Lee Lodrick, Delah Gachette, Ersline Fabian, Glen Theophile, Raheem Henderson, Royette Laurent, and Sherlyn Hill.
Although Thomas took the overall title, he was clearly not the favorite of the finale. That honor went to the eventual second runner up Karlvin Deravariere.
The eleven finalists all delivered a first-rate performance before a crowd of about 200 screaming fans, as well as an island-wide and international audience, who tuned into the live radio broadcast online.
The final was divided into two rounds with four segments. There were also two intermittent performances by locally acclaimed artistes Natalie Marshall-Joseph and Daddy Chess, who used the event to debut a new single.
The judges’ panel included renowned local music teachers, directors, performers and songwriters, who have established themselves in their chosen fields not only locally but throughout the Caribbean, North America and Europe.
The Q-Talent Search is a Q95FM Radio production, aimed at discovering Dominicans from across the island with the best singing and performing talents and provide them with a medium through which they can display that talent.
Fifteen percent of the points awarded to determine last night’s winner came through fans’ text message voting.

i could see that i am indeed late….i think that the show was fairly judged but it wasnt well organisedddddd……i hated the fact that the bag of tickets were not shooked in front of everyone as to the previous shows…………the two host could have done wayyyyy better..i thought that they were a little boring….to the winner ASHER THOMAS u really deserved it…..from day 1 i knew u had it in,dont stop here…to TINA ALFRED ur’e voice is very very rich, but your’e stage performance slacksss….to CALVIN,ur’e a great performer, also too ur performance was a lil better than ashers that night to that of the other nights,DONT STOP HERE,KEEP IT MOVING AND U’LL BE BETTER….to KAY LOUISY,ur’e voice is sweet and soft,GOOD LUCK IN THE FUTURE….congratulations to all the others for some of u were GREATTTTTTTTTT(SHERLYN HILL & THE GIRL FROM PORTSMOUTH)……………I WISH U ALL GOOD LUCK IN THE FUTURE…

Job well done Asher..You deservered it, saw you performed and you made me shiverr!!! Asher Got Talent..CONGRATULATIONS MY BOYYY
Kimberly should host along Matt next time
we have been asking how we can help the young pple keep away from violence,i believe mat and jl has answer that question, all the young pple needs is a hall with some instuments where they can go release there fortration by sing, danceing,or playing some kind of instument, instead of fighting and killing one another,so yyyyyyyyyyyyy is some pple being so negetive about who can sing or who can’t sing, thats not fair, lift up the young pple, anchorage them, help them to belive in themselfs, by the way i was at the show every time, and it really tourch me, i cryed when i see the talent the kids have out there and nothing is being done to help them, thank u mat and jl i believe god has sent u to help those kids, mat there are alot of young boys out there who can dance all kind of music so lets add some dancing next time, thanks again mat and jl
congrats asher you did well
yes asher……..i feel it…..congrats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! well deserved
I remember back in the day… when people in d/ca used to be actually slim….
@kama: yes kama BOOMBANGBANG! FRESH FISH!
Congratulations Asher…..You deserved it!!!!! SHow the world what u got!!!!!! WInk
To those criticizing me for giving healthy advice to the young ladies, be aware that I have been criticized for less in the past. The fact remains that we have a serious problem with obesity in our young people these days and no one wants to talk about it. I repeat that they need to go on a diet for their own good.
This show was very good. Dominica has alot of talent and I hope next year they continue to discover them. The judging was very good, it was fair, you can see that the judges knew about singing. I was present at the show and liked kalvin’s presentation but he was weak in his tonal quality especially in the first song. Tina has a unique and powerful voice and she deserves to be where she is, kay also deserves to be where she is and the winner was well chosen. The judges had no bias and this is good. congratulations to all the performers they did a fantastic job.
cudos to q95 for reconising this hidden talents in Dominica . Mart Peltier And JL you have made us i the world ou there proud.. Thanks for discovering this talents . You could not have doneit better.
Cudos to Q95 and the rest of the organiseres. Let me say hart of to all who took part you all did a great Job. The winner keep up the good works . see u soon in holy wood. I know mart can take u dere Trust me he has the visoin.Mart Peltier you ar ethe best

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hNjY7AyhOqc
Unconditional love Ashy baby. Keep it real. Keep it safe. They should have put a piece of ‘ tribute to Haiti on the show’ on large screen. Raw talent that’s you my boy. One big love
congratulations Asher…………….keep doin good
congrats TINA you made us proud!!!!!!
I think Asher did an OK job and he deserved to win. However, I felt that the show could have been of a higher standard. The majority of the participants were tone death it seemed. They were pitchy and off key for the majority of the performances. I critique, not to tear anyone down, but to urge us a Dominicans to strive to do better. This was broadcasted to the entire world in audio and video formats and I was not pleased with many of the performances.
I am well aware that these youth are not professional singers like Michele Henderson, Tarina Simon, Ophelia Marie , Joyce Stout, or any of our other velvet voiced crooners, however it appeared from their performances that they would have benefited form some basic pointers with regard to diction, tonal quality, and the dynamics of singing into a microphone. Was there time for these people to practice with the band? Have any of these people taking a voice training lesson in their life? I know one of them is part of a semi-professional singing group which does pretty impressive work and would have to be the premiere choral performance group on the island, but even this young lady was not on point with what I would expect from someone who is a part of that group.
Let is be known that Michele Henderson spent many years at Kairi School of music learning the flute and had to practice to attain the levels that she had gotten to musically. It is from this foundation that she could build and develop her talents to be who she is today. While I congratulate Asher and the others for coming out there and showing what they could do, I encourage all of these youth to spend the time and the effort it takes to learn music theory and to truly develop themselves musically.
Congrats Asher. Nothing I didnt expect.
@interesting:
I am promoting Asher Thomas and Symplz. Asher is a very talented individual so he always going to shine but he is part of a group that been doing music for over 5 years. The whole Sympz team is behind Asher aka Ice. I was using this opportunity to let people know about the group.
BOSS UR LAST PERFORMANCE WAS THE ONLY REASON I CAME TO THE SHOW, ASHER IN MY MIND WAS VERY GOOD , BIG MAN REACH FOR THE STARS, LET NO ONE HOLD U DOWN, U GOT AN EXCITING VOICE AND U KNEW THE SONGS TO SING ALONG WITH UR VOICE , SPLENDID PERFORMACE WHEN THIS YOUNG MAN SANG UNCONDITIONAL LOVE BY JAH CURE, YOU GO BUDDY MAKE D BEST OUT OF IT AND QFM95 FIND A SPOT TO PUT THE MAN ON CREOLE IN D PARK TO DO ONE OR TWO PERFORMANCES FOR US , PROMOTE OUR YOUTH, GIVE THEM JOY
Congrats to all, especially Tina. You made your mama proud – Jerline must be grinning from ear to ear!
@ oh wah: how did Karkabeff insult the young ladies? I find that a good piece of advice he gave them because it’s no secret that weight=health risks.
@ interesting: I doh find you making sense! How Symplz Manager “stealing” Asher’s shine there nuh? He gave de man his due props, then went on to make reference to the group. Did you stop to think that if the group does well, by extension Asher will get the good publicity and exposure?
Take it easy ppl…….what all dat fiestiness & sensitivity for nuh?
@interesting: He said nothing wrong he is proud of the group lead singer, what is the best time to promote the group Asher is a part off. I know the guy he has been pushing Symplz on an international Market with his own money I don’t think he is interested in Asher aka “Ice” money either.
@interesting: what did the manager say to elicit that response? Oh the things we harp on!
and is Jael not JL
Ashley… Congratulations!!! You deserve it!!
jl is the QTS co-ordinator and the host.
I listened to the show with great joy and enthusiasm. I believe the judging was excellent .But I believe the show could have been held on the Saturday night or early Sunday afternoon about 3pm. There they would have a larger crowd.
@Symplz Manager: I understand that you are trying to promote your group as asher is a member and capitalize on his winnigs but please be considerate in letting him have his shine. Good things come to those who wait, Symplz is a very talented group But It’s Ashers time now so lets just celebrate his accomplishment and be selfless in that regard.
One Love!
big up to ice (asher) nasio would be proud
@my opinion, not yours!!!:
I respect your opinion and do agree with you that kalvin was a crowd favorite but this does not make him a better singer. remember singing and music carry twice as many points as presentation so tina obviously edged him out there. Be honest the judging was fair and never forget also that texting carries 15% of the points so even though the judges judge, when you add the texts it changes everything.
I agree that JL girls needs to be professional………..Kimberly would have done a better job…
i loved asher’s performace during the entire Q talent search….. he was always bringing the best of himself… he chose the right songs, he had stage presence and for that he deserves it….. CONGRATS ASHER!!!
BUT…….. as for the rest of the places… i think the judges did a terrible job… Karlvin Deravariere was a crowd favorite, he has stage presence and through out the entire competition he and asher battled for no. 1……. aparantly i was not aware that Tina could be placed first…. she had no stage presence and her voice control was too average through out the entire thing…. i guess i missed the moment when she WOWed the crowd…. she has a strong voice but she didn’t deserve this….. i’m not trying to bash anyone….. i just think that atleast one competition in Dominica could be FAIR!!!!
i don’t know how many people would agree, but i think it should have gone like this:
WINNER- Asher Thomas
1st runner up- Karlvin Deravariere
2nd runner up-glen theothile
3rd runner up- point mitchel or kay louisy
then again, its just my opinion, not yours!!!!
CONGRATS ASHER!!!
the show was of a great standard. The judges judged fairly. It was very well judged. Karlvin as someone else said is a good performer, but we have to remember that singing, pitch, tonal quality and clarity all form a major part of the judging. you can be a great stage performer but your vocals are not 100%. Tina Alfred on the other hand has a powerful voice and her vocal delivery was better than karlvin. Asher, was in a category by himself, this young man is a great performer and he has great vocals.
Hats off to the judges, sometimes we need to really examine performances and be honest not because we support someone the person should win. It was a package deal. I am glad the judges did not just look at stage presentation but focused on the singing and musicality.
Congratulations again to all the four winners. They were obviously the best. great judging.
waw asher u are great i knew u could do it u sang to me once in class and i shivered pursue ur dreams toots good luck in ur future endeavours
CONGRATS 2 my boy asha….a young man making another major step forward in his life doing wat he loves…
congratz asher u did great
u made me proud u made us proud
but remember in all ur future endeavors put god first
i’m always 120% behind u giving my support
congrats to the true winner karlvin……… and to asher and all the other participants. but truly i dont think the show was judged fairly………….. i really do not know what the judges were looking for but something definitely…. MOST DEFINITELY……… went wrong trust me ,screaming in a mic is not called singing ok people
Congratulations Asher… U did it! we are so proud of you! Great efforts equals great rewards and it showed last night.
Ahser OMG!!!!!!
Congrats darling..
U kno wats up!!!
Bless up!!!
sorry I missed it Ash, congratulations man! Reppin’ PxB for life!
I thought i was the only one who felt that way. and she always had her information mixed up
yup. would have added a further professional appeal to the event. the jl girl seemed faked throughout the entire thing to me.
Yes I agree that Kimberly should have been co-host. Beautiful voice.
CONGRATES MY BOY. KEEP UP THE HARD WORK AND REMEMBER THE SKY IS THE LIMIT.
Hosting of the show needs much improvement, you cant be speaking from back stage. On several occasions you were just hearing voices and no one was on stage. Other than that a relatively good show. However in my opinion the semi finals was better.
karkabeff, i find you very insaultive these talented young woman did not make themselves so why insault them,to kama is not about money and am sure the winner is not please with your comments because he did it from his heart so please be careful with the choice of words we use,now i want to say congratulation to everyone of the contestant you all did a very good job and to let the world know how talented and unique we are as Dominican, also congratulation to Asher i was listening and from the time i heard you i knew you were the winner keep it up my boy all the best
Congratulations to Q-95 for putting on a great show.. The judges’ decision is final yes..but opinions are to respected so here goes mine….I believe that the performance given by Karlvin was worth
so much more than was given to him last night…It was from the heart and the rewards will be received in another format..Blessings boy….Continue to use your talents for the GLORY of the
Lord and ALL will see when the blessings will pour down like showers of rain..and it sure wont be from Men and Women…your fate will not be in their hands….Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give your the desires of your heart….Blessings always…
thank you so much to my Nephew Asher, you made it to the top. Congratulation. iam so proud of you. keep up the good work.
But wait a minute doesnt kimberley work there. why wasnt she heading this thing. she has such a refined voice. i only heard her read the judges stuff …that would have been the perfect voice
I know! I wouldnt want to have to deal with her …really annoying
I think next time..if there will be a next time they could get someone else
Good work Q95. Congrats Asher and all others. I missed the show, hope next time it will be held on a Saturday.
Congratulations Asher!! Well done, well deserved!! This family (Thomas/Paul) just has a lot of talent. His uncle is Jeffers Paul another talented anointed singer.
