Wings Productions’ “Black and White Thang” began in Dominica in March 2005 and has been a tremendous success over the years.
It has become one of the most talked-about theme event among Dominicans who look forward to the event each year. The event has also become well known among other party-goers in other Caribbean islands having since been extended to Antigua, St.Lucia and the British Virgin Islands where it continues to be successful.
This will be the seventh year that event will be held in Dominica on Saturday, March 26 and the buzz has been on since Ash Wednesday about outfits and shoes for the occasion.
The event has brought DJs from around the Caribbean and the U.S.A to Dominica; DJs such as Papa Keith, the Cut Creator DJ Outkast, as well as exposed the talents of local DJs such as Mr. Mystic, DJ Midian, DJ Bullet and DJ Quick. The event has also brought guests such as Gee Money from Tempo and this year we have as our special guest Devine from Caribbean Vibes.
This signature event, conceptualized by Fabian Graneau of Wings Productions, is an event for all fun-loving party-goers to express themselves in an atmosphere which has been spiced up by the theme and the entertainment.
The event is a semi-formal affair and is different from the conventional events filled with colours which are held during the year.
The event has created many memorable moments and it is our intention as the event grows bigger and older to make it more and more entertaining and eventful.
Its a social event not a dj competition…ppl come 2 free up but they want good music and them djs playing too much of d same tunes over and over…with dj wadix and miguel labadie in the line up it shoud b nice cus they will watch the crowd…if i was there it wood be a sell off, more pple wood com d vybz wood b more real…i played for the first 2 black an white but never played after dat…but big up fabien and all d crew i hope it goes well….yours truly DJ FLIP THA BO$$ #1DJ…..
i have been attending the B&W thang from since it started so thats 7 years and i always go with the hope of finding something newer and more exciting but then i get there n its a …BLAH>>>>
firstly lemme congratulate fabien for organising this and bringing it regional….good job but like everything else critics will always be there, however something can always be taken from wat they say whether negative or positive…
i think there is a need to get an international or even regional artist to mix a bit. not just a soca artisit or Djs , watever the genre of music once the person or band is popular. mind u i didnt say to eliminate our locals.
secondly the entrance..i mean we want a more celebrity feel for the patrons…like a red carpet to mix with the black and white patterns. red or even pink goes well with black and white…so everyone has a chance to get their pic taken and feel good about their expensive outfits..so thats the media flashing and videoing against the bill board of sponsors…like a holywood feel!
thirdly the venue…to get that second thing going we cant do it at the Cove. I have nothin against the Cove but i am not going to allow my Jimmy Choos to feel the pain of walking thru gravels..not happening…and the high end ladies know the cost of Jimmy Choos..yes i got a pair of those….
thats a Club 91 vibes to bring ouit the glamour and hype that we all want to feel when we patronize these events..i spend alot of money to get dressed up and i want to get my monies worth of comfort.
when it rains at the Cove, everyone rushes to shelter under watever is covered and in so doing rubs their dance sweat on ur clothes and steps on those Jimmy Choos……we dont want that Fabien!
one last thing..the outfits! my oh my…there is alot to be desired from those sophisticated outfits dere wii pal……i see some kinda things i swear dey got dis from some strip joint! dont get me wrong i have already won a prize for best dressed so am not a hater! i just think u dont have to spend all ur money or steal to look fabulous…a nice outfit with bold accessories and personlaity will do just fine….there is something i tell my sis all the time when we go out..less is sometimes more…so ladies, we dont want to see ur tatas or try n figure out if u waxed or shaved before u came so cover it up..sophisticated dont mean hoochie!..n some of dem got the Diva n Class phrase on a whole new level…
its a great gesture and to be doin it this long is commendable i must say but put some falvour and spice up in dis joint and lets do it big next yr !

personally .. 7 years and i have gone once .. and to tell u the truth .. why we usin outkast for de past three years ?.. outkast alone it have in the region ? it have better djs out dere .. get a guy from states or canada fabien .. u have de contacts .. i find u does fail on contacts .. u have so many hook ups .. i only went the first time outkast played . and never went after cause it just not attractive .. most ppl come black and white cause 1 … its a time to show off what u have and act stylist … they dont come for the dj’s .. i being real .. fabien its a good thing what u doin but u need to liven it up .. mix it up .. u see how other shows runnin .. u mix it up .. i like my shows but i refuse to go black and white jus to act like i most and boast .. i wanna come for quality and performance ..

My friends and I went to b&w thang once and we never went back cause the dj’s and them messing aroung with the tracks, they keep interrupting them songz esp. when u feeling it with a good dancing and handsome man, its fraustrating. Its no dj competition i coming to
I have two problems, at those kinds of fetes, dem DJ’s nowadays not playing for de people in de fete? They playing for their own self? Because they changing the music soooooo fast and talking sooooooooo much, as I start to wine and gyrate on one tune, a next tune come on and I have to adjust my wine and quite frankly that wearing out dem ole screws in my waist. A next thing is, I know it have prize for sexiest woman, but when all you do dat, them woman does really over do it, and then they doh want you to wine on their good clothes their aunty/neh-nen/paweh send for them, so all how you check it, I out of luck. But still I wish all you (the organizers) all the best, is a good initiative.

No Dj should attempt to mix or scratch unless they have got it right at home first. To many wannabee DJ’s. Also DJ must learn to move the crowd especially when full of stand up and stiff people there just modelling!!

and being a well known dj myself and i maybe performing on the said night let me stress a point. reall mixing talent is missing amoung my dj peers. to many times we fool our fans with those computerised and digital equiptments and virtuall dj gears. we are not the ones doing the mixing but these machines, i stoped to watch one of my peers doing his thing and alot of digital tricks he performed untill most of the fans walked out on him, he was so busy keeping his head on his laptop he never noticed. if i don’t perform on the said night then u will know who i am. and i’m really fed up of using these kind of fake things. i really want to go back as we were.ORIGINAL.
I Love to hear that….and as far i can see….is just about one person i can on that flyer i can call a Dj…them days man just calling their self Dj just to get gigs to full people an make quick money…though there are dj’s who use computer to perform certain tasks which i’m not agaisnt,its all part of technology and the new era…but some so called dj’s over doing it,i can bet you on that said night if one partcular dj don’t play, then not one person can testify the next day and say they hold their girl and had a good time…reason being is that…i’ll leave it for some else to say….in the mean time check out my blog..for exclusive Reggae/Dancehall mixes!!
