Five students from the Castle Bruce Secondary School took to the stage on Friday in an attempt to capture the crown in the Miss Character Counts Pageant.

Each student represented a “pillar of character in the competition,  according to the organizers.

Breanna Challenger, who represented the character of respect, walked away with the crown.

Laurencia John, representing responsibility, was the first runner up while Adina Charles, who portrayed citizenship, took the second runner up position.

The five competed in the following categories, introductory round,  formal speech  promoting their pillar of character, talent, casual wear and evening wear.

The other students who participated are Camisha Mingo, who represented fairness and Briana Charles, trustworthiness.

Principal of the school, Octavia Alfred, said the aim of the pageant is to assist students of the school shape their attitude and advocate character building.

All the girls, whether they won or not, are expected to advocate for their pillar until the next pageant.

This is the second time the pageant is being held and is organized by the Pastoral Care department of the school.

For those who think at CBSS we do not have maths and science contest. I have news for you in March we had Maths week and it was great too. I will tell Principal Alfred to put everything on DNO because when we wait for MOE highlight for us we hear nothing. so I hope whoever choose to go the DNO way with our news will continue. We just had a great career day and soon it will be Literacy week. DNO you may hear from us every week because at CBSS we not sleeping on us. trust me. Furthermore maths and science without honesty and good character will only give us intelligent thieves and crimINal so again CHARACTER COUNTS

Dominica must be the Island with the most pageants. Why don’t they have a Math contest instead or Arts or a School Science project contest.

well done pastoral care coordinator miss Alma Jacob and the school counselor miss Cornelia Fountain. Mrs. Nation, Mrs Eugene, and all the teachers who worked hard. As for that Mrs Alfred. Trust me that lady like excitement and she knows how to make children remember their school days all in their old age. I hear next year the boys are having their for the standards of the CHILD FRIENDLY SCHOOL. That will be fun Mr. kindness, Mr. Industrious is so nuh. Looking forward.

just a question why didn’t boys participate? is this an only girls’ school?

    • hmm
      May 4, 2013

the same reason why men are not taking an active role in society.. u can’t force people to do what they don’t want to do. in addition to target the young men something other than a pageant has to be planned, then again the interest of young men these days are not stirred towards anything positive regardless of what it is..just a trend older men in society sadly set. but it’s a mixed school.

it’s a mixed school..u should give some ideas dat wud encourage the boys to take part in character counts activities.
