Calypso Association receives $61,500 as new building officially opens

New Kaiso House in Bath Estate

Telecommunications provider LIME has presented the Dominica Calypso Association with $61,500.

The presentation was made at the official opening of the association’s new office in Bath Estate earlier this evening.
The building, which cost in the region of $750,000, is also intended to be a multi purpose centre and a venue for performing arts sessions, among other things.

LIME Country Manager Jeffrey Baptiste urged the association to guard their investment very closely and guaranteed LIME’s commitment to the association and calypso in Dominica.

Hey people stop criticizing. Even in big America, the Trinidad carnival associations and other west indian associations have their meetings and get-together in abandoned houses in the ghetto neighborhoods of America. This building looks good for DA and its people.

I stand by my comments…all the people talking about criticizing…I commended them on the building itself….but my thing is why we cant to stuff with taste??? tastes doesn’t necessarily have to be expensive…it just takes a little extra thought…it was built for creative people…should not have been too hard to do…Dominicans should stive for the best…stop being content with being average

The calypso Association always had to use other venues for its meetings and functions and I am pleased to know that they have their own. Those who critisize shouls say how much they donated to the construction. This is a start to things to come.

Why would the calypso association build a $750,000 Kaiso house? …If it had a record studio they could at least charge the Calypsonians $85 per hour to record while other studios charging $100 per hour, all that would raise money since they would be cheaper than other recording studios. Other local artistes could even pay to record there also. I really don’t see the purpose of this “Kaiso House”. A total waste of money if you ask me!!!

The architecture is a bit dated and residential looking. Probably they could’ve used the architect from the DFA Football House.

    it really does look residential….
is there a recording studio in there?…… just wondering… for that much money i hope it generates a considerable amount of income in the coming years. maybe be a training venue for up and coming calysonians?

    PEACE!!

West Indian people love structures and to us a big expensive structure is progress. However if in a poor country you spend three quarter million dollars on a building for an art form that only emerges once a year and brings in little if any foreign exchange then you must know what you are doing in the future for this expense to make sense. We shall see.
