New comer to the 2012 calypso competition police officer Abel “Checko” Jno Baptiste is the 2012 winner of the Stardom calypso Monarch.
He won from a field of 22 competitors with his popular number “AM/PM”.
Coming in first runner up was Karessah with “Rose’ followed by Comforter with “Glory” and Hunter with “Asphalt.”
Checko also won the award for “crowd’s favorite” song.
The Stardom Tent Calypsonians performed before a huge crowd intent on getting in the mood for this year’s carnival.
The show was held at the Sisserou Hotel.
On Thursday calypsonians from the other Tent – Mas Camp, will go head to head in a bid to claim the Mas Camp Kaiso Monarch crown.
Carnival activities are nearing the climax stage, with the major Queen show scheduled for Friday night, and the Calypso finals on Saturday at Carnival City.
Many are looking forward to the two days of street jump-up and revelry on Monday and Tuesday of next week, that’ll kick off as usual with the pre-dawn “Jouvert” jump-up on Monday morning.

Tasha P needs to tone down and sing without always sounding so harsh, she has an amazing amazing voice and is sooo telented but I just don’t like how she sings. Soften it up you are the only woman there !!!!!!!

thats calyso every artist cannot sing on the same topic no one hates dice or checko for the topics they sing on. Its time for peopke like you to understand Calypso and that there are varied writters with varied topics to give the calypso some variety. It would really be boring if you and others like you were left to decide on what topics writters can write. Thats what makes the Competition, the different topics. grow up please.

It is not a sign of fear. It has been a well established rule in stardom tent, that if the reigning national monarch is also the reigning stardom king of the tent, that as the national monarch you don’t defend your stardom crown.
If you check back in time, it happened with Observer, hunter, as well as Karessah. No body accused them of being fearful then. Why now?

So marsh the house down during the finals, don’t be distratced by the nay sayers and the ambassadors. Remember that behind every dark cloud, there is a silver lining, enjoy your silver lining. Practice, practice, practice, learn your songs well so that come finals night there will be no messing up with forgetting your lines or singing out of tune.
