Collywood to launch new TV channel on Marpin

Collywood actors and production crew in action

Local cable provider Marpin has partnered with Jamaican/African production company Collywood to provide local and regional programmes.

Collywood TV, which will be aired on Marpin channel 13, is expected to bring to Dominican viewers movies, soap operas and reality TV made in Jamaica, Africa and Dominica.

In a press release Junior Hart, owner of Collywood, said, “I have always loved Dominica and the people are very friendly and pleasant, the culture is rich and vibrant and I want to cross-fertilize talent from Jamaica, Dominica with Africa and show case it to local and the international Diaspora market.”

He said in order to satisfy Caribbean audiences around the world fresh ideas are needed in providing good quality Caribbean content.

“I am confident with this deal that we have carved out with Marpin,  Collywood will be able to produce and showcase contents which local subscribers can relate to. In the past, Caribbean people have been drawn towards the African movies; I strongly believe that if we were to create our own Caribbean content, our people will appreciate it even more,” he pointed out.

Collywood TV will be launched at the end of March and according to Hart everything has been finalized with Marpin. “I am very excited about this new venture,” he stated. “We are going full out to find and work with talented individuals in Dominica.”

Hey Dominicantod…you have no prospective of what is happening in the movie industry. What about Tyler Perry who acts and directs his own films..what do u say to that. he also started off from the bottom where nobody wanted to know. I think it will be only time untill Collywood breaks through. You see Dominicantod whatever your name is. You cant stop this so good luck to your SAT…they crucified Jesus Christ and look, he was a God..so you can please everybody. Thats just life. Bless. I THINK STILL SAY. WELL DONE JUNIOR HART AND KEEP GOING SIR. YOU ARE DOING A GREAT JOB. THESE PEOPLE ON HERE IS NOT DOING NOTHING ANYTHING EXCEPT TALKING HOT AIR. BEST OF LUCK COLLYWOOD.

“hated to Death” your response is somewhat silly considering I responded stating I “SAW” the movie… Hated to death was a case of two unrelated stories (even with a similar message) being told in 1 movie with poor direction and flow. it was nothing more than a catastrophe as half the attendants left during intermission

Winston..you are a lier. The attendees relocated to upstairs becuase of the AC at the front. I know becuase me and my friends were somewhat cold so we moves seats including other people. So this comment is not correct. We found rhe story line very interested and different..not your usual I must say. The direction was very good. Big up..it is no point listening to other people..I think its one of those films that you either understand it or your dont…simple as that.

I really dont understand how our people can put each other down. I am a struggling actress for years and I am now being employed as an actress in Collywood. This is so needed in Dominica and throughout the Caribbean to help artists like me. I loved Hated 2 Death and the wicked trailer of The Shepherd of Pure Heart. TIME PEOPLE BEFORE COLLYWOOD SHUT ALL YU ALL MOUTH.

The comment relating to CNN interview. I saw the interview and what I gathered Mr Hart was speaking to his artist Germina..where he was pitching the story of the movie on CNN. I have come across the ryesi who thinks he is a critic on public forums. Just take a look at his crap that he has on his youtube website http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lQYmSfLAbJ8&context=C3c05d66ADOEgsToPDskIN4gzP22d01lW_EzmNn2k0 which has nothing to do with Dominica..in fact I dont know what he is on? but you have no authority mad bwoy..so go and support your chinese friends like you do on your youtube channel…you are a a wanna be critic. Why dont you go and make a movie and then you can do what you want and stop putting down other creative people work. BIG UP AND RESPECT JUNIOR HART AND GOD BLESS YOU. GO FOR IT! DOONT LISTEN TO THE HATERS.

So having an opinion that is not favourable is “hating”? Well my dear, if that is your definition of “hating”, then i am a PROUD hater!!! I would be willing to print and wear a t-shirt about how distasteful and ridiculous i think collywood is. No one has a problem with black creativity. It is crap that i generally have a problem with. And Hated 2 Death was crap– plain and simple. Who doh want to hear me say so then that is just too bad. There is no need to engage you people because the so called work of Collywood will speak for itself. As Dominicans all koshoni all you want to accept and then wanna come talk bout u have haters. No one is hating. We are stating fact. That man cannot act, nor can he direct. The sooner he gives up his attempts at presenting the “caribbean voice”, the better off we will all be.

I made the below comment on another site in reference to a Collywood press release titled,”Dominican actress Germina Jno Baptiste featured on CNN’s – The Screening Room”:
    http://www.jayblessed.com/2011/11/15/dominican-actress-germina-jno-baptiste-featured-on-cnns-the-screening-room/

I’ve been researching Junior Hart and Collywood after I watched the movie Hated 2 Death. I found his youtube channel and the video this story refers to. I’m an avid news watcher and found that the interview was strange as at no time did Junior Hart, whose voice I recognized from the movie screening and his youtube videos, mention that he was interviewing Germina Jno Baptiste for CNN’s the Screening Room. I asked when did the interview air and why does the CNN logo change at the 0:45 mark. Within the hour, the video was made private.

I then wrote a comment on both the Jamaican and Dominican trailer of the movie Hated 2 Death. My comments were removed and comments on almost all the videos on Collywoodcinemas’ youtube page were removed. I’m leaving this comment here and will continue on keep commenting in public forums where Junior Hart is willing to advertise his work but where he seems unwilling to take any critique of the work he offers the public for their consumption.

Hi Ryesi. You remember me..seems you have something against Black people’s creativity. I know your little game. lol Keep dissing our films and big your culture although you live in Dominica..you feel you are above us.

      • ryesi
        February 3, 2012

AnnShill, I must confess my ignorance as to why you think I should remember you.

I have no problem with any body’s creativity. My mild annoyance with Collywood started after I had seen Hated 2 Death and I with on the company’s youtube page to express my views on the movie. I was polite and spoke directly to the areas that I disliked most and my comments were simply removed and comments closed. How can artists put their work out in the public and then simply refuse to listen to any critique of their work?

This dismissal of my comments combined with what I believe to be a faked CNN interview of the Screening Room, which was featured on the company’s youtube page until I asked about its air date, made me very wary of Collywood and its management. Right now I feel no more need to say anything about Collywood as I believe the company’s works will speak far more eloquently than I ever could.

Coba, I see what you did there-you my friend are brilliant!

        February 6, 2012

Sweetie— i do not see how you can dare to class what Collywood does as “black creativity”. Man stop insulting black people. Do your thing on your own behalf and don’t drag the whole lot of us into it!!!! I am black and proud and love up my race and love everything about being black and i STILL hate the nonesense that Collywood produces. But when you have one person writing, directing and acting, there is no balance— no voice of reason. And those “movies” lack a voice of reason.

    • Just Saying
      February 4, 2012

I waited anxiously to hear the reviews after the release in Dominica, but heard nothing until today. The little I saw of the movie was enough to let me know that it would not have the success the Mr. Hart predicted. Although I am all for advancement Mr. Hart comes across as a very questionable character. I hate to be the doubting Tom here but, I want to encourage my fellow Dominicans to stop and think for a moment before they commit time and money to this Collywood enterprise. Just remember when something seems too good to be true it usually is. I Hope the aspiring actors in Dominica tread carefully. Don’t get caught in a scam. Do your research, and remember if you have to front any money under any circumstance to the Collywood organization run in the opposite direction. Don’t be blinded by the false promises of fame and fortune. Stay strong, stay smart and God bless. I wish Germina and every young actor/actress in Dominica much success.

Its very sad that you should make comments such as this. I think you have a personal issue my dear friend. Firstly, let me ask..if someone is investing in talent..its a business at the end of the day..nothing is free in this world. Please enlighten me as to where is the so call scam as you put it. I can assure you we have been working with Collywood for a few months now and never once did the organization ask for money..in fact they have been paying us. So go and pitch your unfounded nonesense else where..its people like you who dont want to see progress. Then you finish off by wishing Germina another one of the Collywood artists all the success..lol. You are some what of a joke.

:-D This is a comment to Just Saying. You wish all the actors/actress in Dominica much success? Can you tell me where these actor/actress is going to get the break in order for the success to happen. For years there is no industry of anything to shout about. The Dominica movie industry is ZERO. Stop talk rubbish about wish all the actors/actress success. If its not for someone like Mr Hart who decided to go it alone and put his own money to create something good or bad..ATLEAST ITS A BLOODY START! BIG UP COLLYWOOD!

LOL!!! Oh Saints preserve us!!! While i generally applaud the idea of having a channel of that type…..I have to mention that we need to actually screen what we expose our people to. Collywood is NOT a Caribbean voice and their supposed messy tales do not refelct a Dominican reality. I cannot applaud the ridiculous light in which women are portrayed by this company. Nor can i applaud the way that “the Caribbean reality” is portrayed by Collywood. No Mr. Hart– I certainly am not ecstatic about this!!

What ridiculous light is this company potraying women. I saw the movie Hated 2 Death. Did you manage to watch the movie properly and undestand it? It was based on true events..so how can you say the film maker is potraying women in a certain light? Boy some mother do have them. What a comment to make. I enjoyed the movie..I say well done guys. Atleast this company is going to create employment in Dominica, regardless of all the bad minds on this forum.

You said “”Collywood is NOT a Caribbean voice and their supposed messy tales do not refelct a Dominican reality””. Helllooooooo does all the stations we already watch from the usa, britain and china reflect our reality. Seems to me like you need a reality check! lol!

    • Ceeman
      February 3, 2012

I thought the movie was excellent…I really dont know what you were watching. I thought the story line was very strong with three story lines in the movement of the film. I was very impress with the way the director told the story of all the characters. I found the background music a little high, but I think that was to do with the Awarak system. I was drawn into the story which ended up pretty sad at the end. I thought the director was very creative in showing certain scenes which was different from anything I have seen coming out of the Caribbean as not to offend or distract from the points of interest. I think this movie was well put together. I am also a movie maker…and I know how difficult it is to get something like this off the ground. After reading some of the comments on this page..I hope this puts a propers prospective on a good movie in my opinion.
