UPDATED: Two straight for Convent! Colette Ambo is teen queen

Fifteen-year-old Colette Ambo brought the crown back to the Convent High School (CHS) when she won the 2010 National Teenage Pageant on Sunday night at the Pottersville Savannah.

This is the CHS’s second consecutive win. Last year’s winner was Kelcia Righton.

“I’m very, very proud,” Ambo told reporters moments after she was crowned.

Ambo also secured the awards for Best Speech and Best Evening Wear. Her fuchsia coloured evening wear was obtained abroad.

“It means a lot to me. Oh my gosh, I never pictured the moment I’d be on stage going up for a teenage pageant,” Ambo expressed happily.

She recalled how preparations for the show were tiring, but enjoyable. “I loved the experience. It was something new and worthwhile,” she said.

During the performing talent round, some persons in the crowd jeered at Ambo; however she remarked that she was not bothered. “I couldn’t say anything back, I had to go with it and enjoy myself. It didn’t really bother me much,”
she said in response to a question.

She advises the youth to contribute to Dominica’s carnival by participating in the shows and costume bands. According to her, taking part in carnival is a wonderful experience.

Meanwhile, Ambo thanked everyone who assisted and supported her in preparations including sponsor Bulls Eye Pharmacy, CHS teachers and friends who. Ambo’s favourite subjects are Literature and Music, and she hopes to pursue a career in theatre or journalism.

Her chaperones, Team CHS, comprised of Audrice Jno Baptiste, Miss Daniel-Wilson, Natasha Nation, Stephie Pascal, Leandra Lander, Dion Durand and Miss Stephenson.

First-runner-up was awarded to Rochelle James of the St. Martin’s Secondary School. James secured the awards for Best in Performing Talent, Best in Spectacular Wear and Miss Photogenic, which is selected by official photographers. She sang “Haiti I’m Sorry” in light of the recent earthquake which destroyed the capital and killed thousands. In a spectacular wear entitled “Haiti”, James was portrayed as a matador adorned with colours of the rainbow.

“I’m feeling very great,” James told DNO. She said participating in the pageant meant everything good to her.

Second-runner-up was awarded to Melissa Morgan of the Castle Bruce Secondary School.

The other contestants were Ladisha Murrain of the Dominica Grammar School and Jacqueline Breezi of the Isaiah Thomas Secondary School. Murrain also won the Best Response to Question Award.

st .martin was good but she fell short of the top… CBSS was great as well but the show was tight.. y should we say that is chs alone dat will go up next year … all the schools should come back… if allu hate CHS so much allu should come back and work hard to defeat CHS and get the crown…

  4. Definitely not cokoy
    February 26, 2010

I feel your pain ‘Learn to write English’. Dominicans all of a sudden picked up this form of writing that is neither English, nor Cokoy, nor creole nor anything. Back in the days when Marigot and Wesley people were the only people who spoke Kokoy/Cokoy, the rest of Dominica use to turn up their nose on them and referred to it as bad English. Now I have no idea what they are speaking or attempting to write. Kokoy definitely has proper subject verb agreement. Plus although there is no standard kokoy dictionary to verify the spelling, what I read on here and most other forum is definitely not kokoy. It is plain old bad English.

  5. Learn To Write Plain English

    Hey Opinion,

Before you post your comments, go back to English 101 and learn to write.

CAUTION! In case you were under a rock somewhere, this is the world wide web, everyone can read read your post. Don’t get me wrong, you are not the only one, I see how badly we represent ourselves and our thoughts here. We should all be aware that what we say, how we say and write things online is a direct reflection on Dominica. Please stop writing like you in grade school. This is not a texting forum you know. Let’s try to go back to good old plain English and write in a way that truly reflects some intelligence. Please try to represent your country better.

And to all those who supported their respective Ms. Teen contestants, you are entitled to your own opinion. Throw your support whereever you wish.

In my opinion … Ms. Castle Bruce should have won. She was truly the most consistent. I don’t really know her, but she was really good. Please watch the show again when you can. She was actually the best singer on that night. I also think that the 3 young ladies who placed were indeed the top three and should be in the top 3 spots, but there were just in the wrong order.

However, Colette was not a judge, and we should not blame her for the outcome of the show. Hope she enjoys her reign.

  8. Freedom of Speech
    February 13, 2010

    Hello Michelle,

Thank you for responding to my post. I hope you also took some time to review the other parts of my ‘freedom of speech’ with a clear mind. If you noticed, only a small section was dedicated to you.

I just found it a bit strange that you neither watched nor listened to the show, but felt comfortable enough to address people as sore losers. Do you believe that your comments are more valid than others? I would hope not. I am not attacking you. I understand (and I’m sure you do too) that all of the emotions that are being expressed here, just like yours, whether it’s in good taste or not is based on our very own biases and favoritism.

Some of us are more partial than others. Some of us have better judgment than others and that is clearly reflected here. I just found your comments a bit hypocritical and somewhat bias. You support Colette (which is perfectly ok) and you spoke on her behalf, although you did not see or listened to the show. So why are you calling people names? Take your own advice and maybe next time watch or listen to the show, then you can make a more valid commentary about the show.

One more thing, God is judging us all, even as I write this note. And He is not only in Haiti now, He’s been there, here and everywhere, even before we were born. So your idea of don’t do it, but let me do it is a bit unfair.

Although I don’t know Colette, I do have a positive impress of her. Based on the clips I saw online, she seemed very friendly. I saw how supportive she was of the other contestants when they were awarded for their individual performances. But for you to say she is very intelligent and talented and leave the others out was only partly accurate, because all of the contestants were equally intelligent and talented that’s why they were chosen to represent their schools.

By the way, are you a teacher at the Convent High School? Well, I do hope team Colette helps her prepare for future/upcoming pageant competitions. If she has more time to practice, I think she will do exceptionally better at executing her talent etc in the Miss Teen Caribbean and other competitions. Not sure if that’s the next competition, but if I’m wrong I hope you correct me.

Hope you have a fun weekend.

Congratulations to Colette on your victory; you did an excellent job and I’m very proud of you. I know your mom is smiling down upon you.
I also wish to congratulate all the other contestants who went out and did their best. The show was an excellent one.
I really think that the Dominican public should take heed of what they say to others and about others. Many of the comments that I see here are really negative. Some of you all don’t know who the girl is. All you do know is that she attends the Convent High School.
Colette went out and performed. She brought a show out to the audience there. She was consistent all through and she was confident. She did her best for herself and for her school; and so did the other contestants. There is no need to go and bring down her spirit and the other contestants about participating in the future Miss Teen Dominica. I would have loved to go and represent my school but I did not have the confidence. Colette believed in herself and so did all the other contestants and that is why they went out and did their best.
Keep your faith girl, God has richly blessed you. I commend you and the CHS staff on their hard work to get you prepared.

    Much love……..Di.

FRANK…what nonsense you speaking eh…Yes CHS has its history..but the school has nothing to do with favouritism…Goodwill school had a run in the mid ’90’s , Grandbay at a point, now is CHS’ time…
Students from a wide cross sections of society attend the CHS…including the contestants….Collete is from a humble family, and has a humble school career…so be careful about making people believe your nonsense about race and class…The school prepares well for the shows okay, give them that . You want to talk about class, talk about ORION.

It is called Consistency …Colette was consistent. The others fell in different rounds. Get your information right!!!!!

After reading some these remarks, I had to post. This is a teenage pageant that we are discussing. Some of us are upset at the results, and I get it. But please, with the grammatical errors and sentence structures, it is concerning. Most of these concerns are from teenagers attending one of the high schools represented in this year’s pageant, and we as a country have to do better in expressing ourselves. Speak and write properly. Leave all these slangs for texts. This is online news which is available to any and everyone interested in reading and it does make us as a nation appear ignorant.
For years, Dominican pageants have always shown favoritism to the so-called Mulatto Roseau and the Convent High School. It has been very apparent over the years. If we re-examine our Ms Teen and Queens pageants over the years, most winning contestants did not deserve it but was favored because of who they are (family ties and last name etc.) and the school they attended(that being CHS). I too attended CHS but it’s time for us to give up that narrow minded mentally in favoritism and start looking at the talent of people individually during these shows. This has been going on for years and I personally feel that it will never end. And it’s not just in pageants, it reflects in employment and all aspects of life in Dominica. We need to liberate ourselves of that slave mentality and start building our nation and our people based on education, intelligence, talent and achievements. Unless we start looking beyond the insecurities (yes I said insecurities that’s the reason we show favoritism to these people), and narrow mindedness, Dominica will remain in regress. It is time for us to come to the realization that we are equal and we need to shun all programs or shows that deem that they are above the norm.

  15. Ms. Teen 2010 critique
    February 10, 2010

Miami, I don’t know what you were trying to say, but maybe you can explain your statement that “They needed a young lady who could represent after the show is over…” Are you really serious? Is that what Dominica has come too? If the other ladies were not fit to represent Dominica after the show was over, then why allow them to participate in the competition. What kind of person would make such an ignorant and offensive statement? I thought all the contestants were Dominicans… Please correct me if I am wrong, but the Miss Teen Pageant is a Dominican event, right?

Or are you saying then that if you are not from Convent High you cannot represent Dominica? In other words Castle Bruce or schools from the other villages around Dominica are not fit to represent their own country? If that’s the case, then maybe you are right. Next year the organizing committee of Miss Teen Dominica should just select ONLY Convent High students to compete among themselves or the other schools should not bother with the competition at all.

Well, I sure hope you can explain yourself. I don’t know if you were able to listen to the show, but I heard the performances and unlike you, I choose instead to give an account of what I heard, plus the info that was shared by the commentators about each round.

    Speech:
Based on my experience and what I heard, Convent and Castle Bruce were the top two during the speech segment. They were strong, confident and very articulate; all elements of what makes a great speech. By the way, I am qualified to talk about this area because I have a background in speech communications and I have given a few them myself.

    Talent:
I believe the young lady from Castle Bruce won that round by a landslide. According to the introduction of the host, she wrote and composed her own song and she had a terrific voice to complement the performance. The intro was just brilliant.

Colette started out well with her dramatic intro and she really had me for a minute, but when she switched to singing Susan Boyle’s I dreamed a dream, she lost me. I did not understand her message, because it seems incomplete. Had she stayed with the drama, she would have done a better job, because the way she was telling her story got my attention. The other young ladies did ok, but again, Collette and Melissa stood out with their performance in this category, but Collette won.

    Spectacular wear:
As far as this segment goes, I was not at the show, so I cannot really say a lot here. But after seeing the pictures of the contestants, and what I heard over the radio, it appears that St. Martin, Castle Bruce and Convent high school were very strong. I cannot talk about the way they carried themselves, but the costumes of these 3 schools impressed me the most.

Although Collette looked good in her dress, she stayed too long on stage. I think her music ended before she exited the stage. Point deduction, perhaps?

    Evening Wear:
Again I would say the young lady from Castle Bruce, Convent and the other one with the blue dress (I’m sorry, I cannot identify the school she represents) in the first picture above look really fantastic.

    Question and Answer:
Grammar and Castle Bruce were outstanding and gave two brilliant answers. I particularly liked Castle Bruce’s answer. I think Colette should use her idea to make a difference among her peers during her reign. It was a really powerful idea and somebody should take up the idea and really run with it. I think Ms. Castle Bruce talked about creating a Teen Summit Program with very good elements to it. It was an awesome answer. I think Grammar school won that segment.

Colette made some errors in this round and was unsure of what to say regarding changing the current carnival date from February to May. If you have a chance to get your hands on a copy of the show I encourage you to watch it. I plan on doing the same.

Based on the judging criteria, what I heard from the contestants and the tidbits from the commentators; Melissa was the most consistent throughout the evening. The speech round was supposed to be 3 minutes, the talent round 4 minutes. However, not sure about the other rounds

Although Colette did a brilliant job with her speech, she was about 5mins long and her talent was exceptionally longer, she was on stage for at least 8mins that is double the time aloud. Each min over the allotted time is a point deducted. So based on that tidbit of information I have and the judging criteria outlined, if the judges followed through on the judging guidelines, then the crown should have been awarded appropriately.

Before I end, I want to congratulate all the ladies, as I am sure you all worked very hard, but some of you had stronger rounds than others. One in particular seemed more consistent across the board and we should all recognize her for her a solid performance, the Castle Bruce contestant. I was really surprise by her overall performance she has potential to be a Queen contestant.

So Miami, if you can please explain your comment about they need a young lady to represent after the show that would be great!

It will end my note with a quote from Barbara Jordan which states:

If the society today allows wrongs to go unchallenged, the impression is created that those wrongs have the approval of the majority…The imperative is to define what is right and do it.

  16. Freedom Of Speech
    February 10, 2010

    Dear All,

I trust that this forum has served us all well in one way or another. It’s a place to express our feelings frustrations and concerns about what we like or did not like. And yes, it is a fact that we all have our biases and it can at times, impair our insights or opinions. So those of you who chose to lash out or spread the peace, let’s at least try to do it in a constructive forum like atmosphere. Let’s have a decent conversation, will you?

Clearly, something went wrong with the show’s judging. Because the judge’s decision is finally, it doesn’t mean that they made the right call. People should be allowed to express themselves, but in a way that is respectful to others, especially the contestants. However, I understand when people see something that they know to be wrong, they should be allowed to say just that.

Yes, Colette’s performance was strong, but she messed up in the talent and question and answer round. The young lady from Castle should have placed higher. I was really surprised that she didn’t even secure the talent round, she was really solid in that round. In fact I thought she was the strongest overall, she was consistent throughout the rounds.

Don’t get me wrong, I am a DGS alumni, but I think Ms. Castle Bruce should have placed higher. I think we need to stop looking at these young ladies from the countryside as second class Dominicans and look at the level of their performances. Maybe then and only then, we will begin to see some form of fairness in the competition. If we continue to dismiss the talent of the girls from the various villages, I think some day soon, the pageant will have difficulty attracting them. So we need to be careful about what we say and how we say it. What’s a pageant with only 3 schools? No fun…

WARNING: Michelle you tried to appear positive but, you were not any better than those who felt the need to express how they felt about the outcome of the show. Maybe, just maybe, before you attack folks about grammar and syntax, maybe you should adhere to your own advice and use spell check before your hit return or the submit button. Even you too fall victim to your own criticism. Please reread. I would not be surprise if I missed a few words myself.

TO EVERYBODY I SAY – EXPRESS YOURSELVES. BUT LET US DO IT WITH RESPECT.

I did not listen to or view the show on TV. However, what is very clear to me is that everyone who commented has a different opinion. BUT the reality is that Colette won and all ı see are sore losers, each with a different OPINION.

Colette is a child; an intelligent, talented and blessed child that we are using the internet to attack because she has something that we do not have but we want–a title. Would any of you say the things you have said to her face? Would you want your child or yourself to be subject to this kind of harassment on the internet or in the street?

People, let us be intelligent beings. We cannot win everything and our OPINION is just that – an opinion. It does not get us what we want.

Colette, God bless you. I know that your mommy is smiling down upon you. We– who matter– are all proud of you.

And for all the sore losers out there — LEARN the rules of grammar, spelling and syntax before you embrarass yourself at the click of a hyperlink.

And one more thing, leave God out of your hate —God is trying to feed people in Haiti and not judging the talent round.

I write in peace and love.

Jackeline hold your head up!! You did a good job although I must say that the costume builders did you no justice. Experience makes you stronger as a person. You were great but the battle was just too great… Next time love…..

Best talent should have gone to Castle Bruce because she executed greatly.. Miss teen had the strongest talent but her execution was not strong. The person who got best talent just butchered the Haiti I am sorry song……

To Miss Teen 2010 congrats but try to practice execution from start to finish and know when to exit the stage. You had the strongest talent and creative wear but your execution brought them down. So acknowledge your mistakes and perfect them. Best of luck.

  28. Anyways
    February 9, 2010

…Oh gosh! We really need to come better than that. I’m reading through these comments and just feel that these negative attitudes can never take us far. If we continue like this Dominica will not change for the better. I mean, of course every person has a right to his or her own opinion but we don’t have to express ourselves in such a way as to cause hatred between parties – It’s as though some people ready to start a war over what?…a competition.

From what I saw and heard all the young ladies did well, they really did and i’m sure each one feels she deserved to win but of course there’s only one crown. I don’t feel that anybody should be blamed or criticized for anything – I really don’t see it. The girls did what they had to and the judges did what they had to. We cannot blame Mr. Lawrence for that. What can he do? He played his part well. If there’s anybody to be blamed it’s definitely not the contestants. That’s plain nonsense. Here you are criticizing a young individual whom you don’t even know, because of what school she goes to. We shouldn’t treat people that way. I understand each person has someone they support but that doesn’t give right to be so harsh because she won and because she represented CHS. Any of the girls would have deserved the crown, I’m sure they all did their best but Colette stood out in all her rounds. She could have gone to any school in Dominica and perform as she did and win. I wonder what would be said then. We need to stop being so broad minded and give people a chance. Colette performed very well, along with the other contestants, and well deserves what she got, despite the people who tried to let her lose focus even while she was on stage – boy…only God knows…She didn’t receive the most points in every round but she may have been next in line because of her consistency – and tht’s what needs to be understood. We humans cannot change the will of God.

And why discourage others to participate in future shows? It could be a great opportunity for them not only to win something but to express themselves as individuals and to just enjoy the experience.

Out of all the schools represented CHS was the one being lashed at but it seems all that lashing and hating on just makes them stronger; that’s why they’ll continue to bring out their best. Congrats to them…there were times when they didn’t win too yuh…And congrats to Miss SMSS and Miss CBSS, and the other contestants as well for making the show what it was. I mean all of you couldn’t get the crown but you have to remember you each performed well. Don’t be discouraged and don’t join in any negativity.

And to Miss Teen Dominica 2010 I must say you really did well. Not that I didn’t see it coming but it came real good. Only you know the effort you put into this and what you had to go through. Don’t let anybody cause you to feel down. I’m happy for you. God loves you and is surely happy for you. He gave you this opportunity so cherish it forever…You deserve your crown. Just continue being you and aiming for your goals. Keep strong in your faith and continue to keep God close because we need Him to survive. Do your best and God will do the rest. I’m proud of you Cocolet.

I don’t know if you were able to listen to the show, but I heard the performances and unlike you, I choose instead to give an account of what I heard, plus the info that was shared by the commentators.

Collette started out well with her dramatic intro and she really had me for a minute, but when she switched to singing Susan Boyle’s I dreamed a dream, she lost me.

I thing her music ended before she exited the stage.

Collette made some errors in this round and was unsure of what to say regarding changing the current carnival date from February to May.

  30. COLETTE HAS HARLEM BLOOD
    February 9, 2010

Congratulation again to young COLETTE AMBO who won the spotlight and put on a most professional and consistent performance. Its evident that she is not only an exceptionally intelligent student but has tremendous potential as a national leader, Well to those of us who know her well COLETTE comes from a generation of the highly intelligent and talented. Not too long ago her first cousin GENEL JNOJULES also from CHS/HARLEM walked away with this very coveted title .

I was at the show and it was quite competive and the girls gave a great account of themselves but Mis AMBO was a very deserving winner. I entered the show in support of my cousin Miss James and slo my alma mater DGS but I thought that COLLETTE had rhe edge. hence the results didnt surprise me.

So am very happy that CHS’ Ambo won and I do hope that the day will come for her to follow the footsteps of QUEEN EXTRAORDINAIRE LANDER to participate in the senior pageant and make both HARLEM/ SALISBURY/CONVENT and most of all DOMINICA PROUD.

NM COLLETE HAS A VERY LARGE FAN BASE AND FAMILY BASE IN NEWTOWN ( MA TOAKE BY THE NEWTOWN SAVANNAH WAS HER GRANNY AND SHE IS ” BIBBY “CHILD )!

ALL THE BEST AND CONGRATULATION TO ALL THE OTHER PARTICIPANTS
SUPPORT YOUR SCHOOL HARD BUT DONT BE BIAS AT ALL AND RESPECT THE DECISION OF THE JUDGES BECAUSE WHILE MANY OF US ARE LOOKING AROUND AND FOCUSSING ONLY ON OUR SCHOOL REPS WE MISS OUT ON ALOT; THE JUDGES ARE NOT PERFECT BUT TJEY LOOK AT THE ENTIRE SHOW AND THEY HAVE THE CRITERIA HENCE THEY KNOW WHAT THEY WERE LOOKING FOR1 BUT ITS HUMAN TO BE DISAPPOINTED!

All u know is de castle bruce girl that suppose to get that. All u judges too voleir. That child walked with grace, elegance and poise, she was consistent in her rounds, she stuck to her time, OH MY GOD what more can u jydges ask for?.When u can write and compose your own calypso wat can u not do again, and on top of that a great voice.

U guys know what?, Melissa was too advanced for the judges, she beat to the test, they never expected such talent from cbss. Mr Raymond i knw u have something to ay about that,Its time to break your silence and give jacqueline her lipstick. And if colette is an honest and decent citizen of this coutry and her school she will hand over the crown to where it rightfully belong, to the Castle Bruce Secondary, Melissa Morgan.
Colett herself was surprised to hear that she had won, because she knew she messed up big time in her talent and the quesion and answer round. But is nt a policeman,if u dont hand over this crown ushall never win another title.U shall not win miss Teen Caribbean, cause u dont have wat it takes,u are gonna mess up even worse than on sunday night.

Melissa is our queen and she will cotinue to shine and rise like the eagle. We all will know who is de true queen after th 2012 CXC Examinations.

wow, people does say Dominicans IGNORANT. But now i can truly see that majority of them can’t go anywhere in life. Colette Ambo was very good, althought she made a blunder in her response to questions but in the others round i have to say that she was great! her dress was gorgeous and the other girl in the blue had a amazing dress also. As they say the judges decision is final eh, is has nothing to do with what school you go to cuase as i can recall Possi had win the crown. Miss Righton performed very well last year and i’m proud to say colette did a spectacular job as well.

WHEN crystal win the crown i want to know what allu going and say.

  46. Hats off to all the Girls!
    February 8, 2010

It is sad that we must pull others down to put others on top. Every competition has a winner… not necessarily a loser but definitely a winner. While comments here are opinions and everyone has a right to that (as the calypso says)… it should however be with responsibility that we express ourselves – not to the injury or defamation of others.

Hats off to all the girls!

I too listened via radio from abroad. The show was a tough one. I had no idea who would win… that is why we have a point system and I’m sure the rotating judge system (where each section was judged by different judges) was intended to avoid bias. Everyone sees things differently… for those of us who listened we have only to go by what the commentators said… I’m sure all the girls worked just as hard and aimed just as high and none of them lost. Even though ONLY ONE could win!

I was impressed by all the girls. I was cheering on Colette but the competition was tuff and I had no idea who would win even if I could eliminate one or two people at times. Sometimes someone may not top every round, but they maybe came second or first here and there… and in the end, they total out on the top! And I think this is what the show came out to be in the end because the girls were just so on key.

We should not tell the young lady that she does not deserve her crown. Did we put in the effort she did? Did we practice day and night to put on a spectacular performance. Each of the girls put in a whole lot and the crown is well deserved by whoever wears it. This year it’s Miss Ambo – next year someone else.

And one more thing, although the girls represent the school’s they attend we are looking at individuals. Who come from all over the country. Colette is from Salisbury… she could have attended ITSS or any other school and would very much be the vibrant young lady she is. The CHS team must be congratulated in the effort they put into preparing the girls year after year… its team effort. It’s not the school that won the show, it’s the girl! And I’m proud of her and congratulate her all the way!!! I do not fail to recognize the school or the sponsors, they played a big part in assisting but it is only individuals who brave that stage. And we should appreciate their boldness and courage. All five of them. NO matter where they’re from or who they represent as long as this was all in a positive, self-building, country serving effort!

Congratulations again to Miss Teen Dominica 2010!!! I was surely entertained and wowed by your perforfmance!!!

  47. Fed UP and mad(coming from a PRE-TEEN)
    February 8, 2010

Dominicans are sore loosers. They just doe know when to give up. So what, Collette got the crown fine. Dominicans just jealous, FOR WHAT!?!?! Dominicans just doe know when to stop. You don`t have to criticize d gurl just because she win, and just because she from CHS. Convent high school is a good school yes, but you have to look beyound the school, you have to look at the girl representing the school, the personality and the way they act. So all the NON-SCENCE allu saying, just cut it out once and for all. Look what happen last year. Is a good thing it doe happen this year too. Yes the other girls were good, very good infact they all deserve a round of applause for their effort and participation.

It just goes to show what good work can do. It had a ja grammar school, SMSS, and d others, it had some convent girls there too. the girls were were all supported by their fellow students and that goes to show that we need to encourage…NOT BRING DOWN. the ja ppl from d schools were upset but they were still happy that at least their school placed or got a best of sumting or even just participated. Some of them would have wanted to take action but they learned and they accept.

So all d NON-SCENCE dat coming from dominicans need to stop. Congrats colette, i`m so happy may the lord bless you and keep you, may you see His shining face. Congrats to all those who placed and didn`t place you all were still trimendous.

THE REDICULOUS SHOWS SHOULD BE ALL ABANDONED FOR GOOD AND CONCENTRATE ON MY IMPORTANT ISSUES, AS THIS CONSTANT BIASNESS AND UNFAIRNESS IS DOING THE ISLAND NO GOOD MORALLY.

HOPEFULLY, MORE SCHOOLS AND CONTESTANTS IN THE OTHER PAGEANT SHOWS PULL OUT ONE AFTER THE OTHER AS ENOUGH TIME HAS ALREADY BEEN WASTED WITH SUCH PAPPY SHOW YEAR AFTER YEAR.

THANKFULLY CALYPSO SHOW HAS ALWAYS BEEN MY THING AND THE SHOW I ALWAYS LOOKED FORWARD TO SO I SAY “LONG LIVE CALYPSO SHOW!”

To colette ambo , girl i don’t even under stand a word u was saying. i believe, that at first you came out in a coffin then you begun talking about who knows what then all of a sudden you just jump to singimg susan boyle song to tell you the truth girl that talent was just not a good job and so was you dress.

And wait when i looked at your facail expression, you was so suprised. that is to show you that you don’t even deserve you crown.

Let me tell u how they volea, before they even call the winner they already had security lined up. because every bother know thy were going to volea for convent again

GRAMMAR SCHOOL SHOULD HAVE GOTTEN BEST COSTUME…. she should have even gotten best talent… is either GRAMMAR SCHOOL OR ST. MARTIN SECONDARY THAT DESERVED TO WIN… convent dress was not even properly fitted… her talent was goin good but she just messed it up. i didn’t even understand her message really. If you had to look at consistency i would say that castle bruce and grammar school was….. one of the judges wants to say that grammar school talent wasnt dominican but so was kelcia’s and since when ones talent has to be related to a country.. it has to be about you. the dress convent had was the pink to the red kelcia had.. look at it so i want to know if next year they wil wear the blue to it..anywyas next year convent alone will be in teenage pageant and i would urge the others to not participate in the parade… raymond lawrence need to do something bout it it is his show. we want to talk about nation building and yet we are killing the very ones who should be building it

To all those who resort to using profanity and belittling the judges — I know you are disappointed in the results because your favorite person did not win. While you may or may not be justified in your blatant disagreement with the results, please bear in mind that you are doing a dis-service to the young person and sending the wrong message. I say wrong message because to resort to profanity is not the way to do it.

Use this opportunity as a teachable moment. Let the young person know that while they may not have won this time around, they are loved and appreciated. Think of the American Idol Jennifer Hudson who was rejected by Simon and some of the other judges. She knew deep down inside she had displayed superior talent, the world saw her talent and her loved ones around her did not curse Simon, rather they encouraged her to continue to do her best and now she is enjoying the fruits of her persistence. Teach our young women that every dissappointment is a blessing in disguise. Let us instill selfworth, self esteem and most of all pride, even when they fail in them and we will cultivate strong individuals and outstanding citizens.

Colin Powell was rejected by the City College of New York and was a nobody when he was an undergraduate student there. Now the first one to claim Colin Powell after he made it big on the internation scene is City College. We have the ability to rise above adversity and do GREAT THINGS. God bless all the beautiful teen pageant WINNERS – only one could get the crown but they WERE ALL WINNERS. God bless the Commonwealth od Dominica.

  59. February 8, 2010

Well its not a surprise that the judges always do the same thing each year, come on what is going on here there was a drop in schools, sponsors, and lack of public support in this year’s carnival events who can blame them.each year its the same thing lets look at the so called miss teen show : each year the girls come out and speak and these are theirs words ”I am, iam, iam, iam ” that is all they say what is that are their any other words in the dictionary they can use,the other thing is that the young ladies get the sponsors and the sponsors are not get value for all the money they spend on this these girls for example Scotia bank comes on board takes a girl under their wings on the of the show that is how it goes ” Scotia bank life money balance both” that is not enough more should be said about the bank. and the D.F.C needs to do something about this and i needs to be done soon cause if that continues we will loose our sponsors and we all know that we need our carnival.another thing the winners and those who place on the night should be given a some responsibility cause there are things that the girls can handle that goes on in our country that they can speak out about and condemn, like the rise in violence among us young people cause these girls does nothing after they win even the queen as well i hope the D.F.C is reading this something has too be done to change this and if they want help in planning a good show i can help them trust me .

  60. UNFAIR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    February 8, 2010

THAT SHOW WAS SO UNFAIR. THE CASTLE BRUCE GIRL DESERVED THAT CROWN. SHE DELIVERED. JAMES COULD NOT EVEN SING AND CBSS COULD. IT WAS ORIGINAL! COME ON JUDGES TELL ME WAT YOU SEE WEN U JUDGE THESE SHOWS! GOD! COLLOETTE MADE MISTAKES IN ANSWER, STAYED TOO LONG ON STAGE FOR TALENT AND COSTUME. CBSS HAD A GREAT FITTING DRESS, SOLID SPEECH AND GORGEOUS COSTUME. HER TALENT DESERVED BEST TALENT NOT JAMES. HER ANSWER WAS OVER THE TOP AND IT WAS GREAT. SHE DESERVED THE CROWN AND NOT 2ND PLACE. WE LOVE YOU MEL! THEY CHEATED YOU BUT ITS OK EVERY DISSAPOINTMENT IS A BLESSING! BIASED PEOPLE NEVR GET ANY WHERE GOOD IN LIFE.

    February 8, 2010

Melissa morgan did exceptionally well,.. The judging of that show was totally bias. … castle bruce ..not be taking part in teenage pageant again. itss, pss, pcss and grammar school should all back out, let only convent take part.

and to the judges in the talent round i say **, you have no talent that is why you robbed melissa of best talent because you cannot even pass calypso elimination, how can someone write and compose there own calyso and best talent be given to a child singing some one else’s song off key.

and to the judges of the evening wear section you were jealous of melissa curves because you all are so bony, .. GO TO HELL

  62. February 8, 2010

dat teen pageant was unfair…………….unfair….everyne has their own opinion….and to this i say that this was unfair…colette’s talent was a bit wack…and she cld have done more with the guitar. and at least grammar school should have placed,,,,,she was really gud…

Ladisha sweetheart we were very proud of you..you did your best and you deserved to get a place..what they did to you was just pure wickedness. But in our eyes you are still our Miss teen..

the response below(TEENAGER)….u aint makin any sense…

insteaD of sayin Colette crown must fall, just say u wanted Rochelle to win….

and memo: IN ORDER TO WIN, YOU DONT HAVE TO BE PERFECT!!! AND BECAUSE ROCHELLE WAS IN QUEUE FOR HER TALENT AND SPECTACULAR WEAR, SHE GOT THE AWARD FOR THAT! But because she WAS NOT as consistent as colette, Colette got more points and the crown!

judges judge on consistency….altogether Colette got the overall amt of points….so get over it!

CONGRATULATIONS TO COLETTE! and ofcourse big up to one of Dominica’s most prestigous schools! CHS!

    CONGRATS TO ROCHELLE

However, the judges seem to always see something that we do not see. The judges have their criteria, they know exactly what they are looking for, so as the saying goes, the judges decision is final. But honestly, this is why I stay away from pageants, no one seems to ever be satisfied with the judges decisions.

Mr. Lawrence needs to ask himself some questions, the participating schools will start to back away from the pageant as PSS and other schools have already started doing. Soon we will not have any schools taking part except CONVENT.

Congrats to the winner and all the other contestants. If it weren’t for you guys, there would not have been a teenage pageant. All the best

@ Teenager…..Ssssh!!!!! for 1 minute. It’s the way the questions were answered. I listened to the entire show and CHS responses had substance compared to the rest. Oh I forgot you go to the St.Martin secondary so you have the right to route for your girl.
But on the other hand CHS has the crown…lol

Plz do not bash the young lady whether y’all feel like she deserved to win or not. She wasn’t a judge she was a contestant. Bash the judges or organizing committee if y’all want to.

    Congrats to all the contestants.

Go Convent!!! So why can’t convent win? I doh see why people have to claim the judges were biased in favor of a Convent girl. The girl was good and she deserved to win. Plain and simple. A A.

Colette deserved it ok teenager. In case u didnt know, everyone makes mistakes. She was rhe best out there so she won. Dominicans need to stop looking at the school and start focussing on the individial. Colette was consistent in all rounds and there she won. Allu dominicans too bad, saying she doe deserve it and none of allu cant do shit on the stage withiut fainting.

    February 7, 2010

no she did not desr=erve it and those judges always puttin in for convent but this year they made it too obvious and as the crowd is sayin Rochelle James of the St.Martin Secondary School is our Miss Teen she derserved it 101% I MUST SAY Rochelle girl u rock us bad bad bad! we will all know who is going to pay for it at the end because Colette crown must fall… HONESTLY IT IS ROCHELLE OWN!

    reasons are:

Colette stayed over her time in both spectacular wear and talent( rochelle was in queue)
She made mistakes in her question and answer and she stuck in a few places( rochelle did not)

u know i want no high schools to take part in Miss Teen Dominica Pageant and send up 7 contestants let me see WHO D HELL will win….
