Dominica Broadcasting Station (DBS) announcer, Stephen Dangleben, has chosen Marie-Claire’s “Jah Guide (Happy)” as his song of the year for 2010.
Written by Marie-Claire and produced by Garsha Blaks of St. Lucia, the upbeat song is infused with African drumming and chanting, as well as rock and roll guitar riffs. It was featured (along with other DBS DJ’s top picks) on the live DBS Radio production called “DJ’S #1 on Friday, December 31.
Every year-end DBS asks its popular DJs/announcers to select their top song for the preceding year. The announcer has total autonomy as to which song he/she selects. According to DBS DJ Brenton Henry, announcers generally choose the song which has the most personal impact on them, the song which is most requested by their audience and the song with the best overall impact.
Dangleben, host of the popular Good Morning Dominica (Mon-Fri 6:30-10:30 AM) says he chose Marie-Claire’s song “because it had a nice bouncy tempo and a positive message. It is spiritually uplifting and as such was a good song on which to start the year”.
Another song of Marie-Claire’s “Care For You” was also in the running.
For her part, Marie-Claire is “thrilled and over the moon”.
She adds: “I am grateful to my fans and especially grateful to Stephen for all his support.”
The Dominican-born, Italian-trained opera singer performed both “Jah Guide (Happy)” and “Care For You” at LIME Creole in the Park during the 2010 Independence celebrations. Marie-Claire closed off the year with several local performances during the month of December, including the “Peace and Love” Concert on the Dame Mary Eugenia Charles Boulevard on the 10th, the Dominica Labour Party End-of-year Award Ceremony at Arawak House of Culture on the 18th and Carijazz/LIME “Winter Wonderland” at the Newtown Savannah on the 26th. In November, she also performed at the request of Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves at a pre-election rally in St. Vincent.
So far for 2011, Marie-Claire has performed at Parry Bellot’s Yanni Tribute show at the Fort Young Hotel, proceeds of which go to the Grotto Home for the Homeless. Marie-Claire will soon depart Dominica for Jamaica where she will record a 6-track EP performing classic Reggae songs operatically.
She will be working with the likes of producers Earl “Chinna” Smith, Tommy Cowan and Wayne Armond as well as songwriter Bob Andy. She will also perform with the Peter Ashbourne-directed Samuel Felsted Orchestra at the Music Unites Jamaica concert series dubbed “Marley Meets Mozart”.
Marie-Claire has also accepted a request to teach master vocal classes at Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts. After Jamaica she will head to her second home Bronx NY, where she will attend events such as Caribbean International Fashion Week and network within the music industry. Plans are also underfoot for following up on management and booking offers.

Marie Claire is top class. Besides her beautiful voice she is a very talented entertainer. Da really have some persons that we should hold dear in that they represent us Internationally, making our country proud.People like Marie Claire, Hunter,Billy Doctrove,Daddy Chess need to be given many opportunities to ensure that they spread the good name of Dominica all over the world.
looking forward to hearing much more good things.
Congratulations.
Congratulations Marie-Claire and best wishes in your future aspirations. An amazing voice indeed.
congratulations and I wish you well in your future endeavours. Go make Dominica proud. We need to hear more good news of this nature. In 2011 let us see the good in each other
ok marie claire u r one talented individual,,,,now jamaica making use of our talent,,,,have teaching dem huh!!!! for too long i wondering how come we don’t have a music engineering course at the college,,,,this would be very good for aspiring producers,,,,u have to beg man to teach u pro-tools,,,reason,,,logic pro,,,autotune,,,melodyne etc etc,,,and learning the fundamentals of the mixer board,,,i believe people like jah fox,,,cornell and a few other well known music producers should be offered the chance to teach some courses,,,,if i had the money i’d spend it on that program,,,,it’s time we wise up in d.a and another thing we need to enhance is our video production,,,
Dominca has produce and still is producing top notch musican.
However, one things the top musicians never like to teach the underdog.
They are afraid that he or she may get better than them. Music is a gift from
God to the human race and one set of people cannot hold the teaching and spreading of Jah, Jah love an insperation. I heard one musican in Da say he is not playing with anybody than is below his level. This selfish statement stills haunts meet today. If you do not teach him, who will carry on the touch.
my sentiments exactly,,,when u die u work lives on,,,better yet if it lives on through others,,,a next jah fox,,,cornell,,,etc etc,,,similar how the states have many dr dre’s and timbalands,,,,ask dr dre who gave him lots of advice,,,,non other than the producer of michael’s biggest album thriller mr quincy jones
So where is the cudos to “mouth of the south” for this contribution. This guy get so much blows for his witty comments. He is entertaining sometimes and he makes me laugh amidst the negatives I read here! Gay & Proud should now be proud of MOS and stop being G&P!
well i don’t pride on being smarty all the time,,,i rather have fun than to be uptight but u know,,,peeps just label u dumb lol,,,
that’s what i like about you , your humility, and you doe care waydaysay.
