DBS’ ‘Bouyon Connection’ slated for February 6

James Rodney

State-owned Radio DBS is once again playing its part in celebrating and showcasing Bouyon music in Dominica.

This year the company is putting together an activity dubbed ‘Bouyon Connection’ in a virtual format to be held on Tuesday, February 6, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

“DBS is playing its part in celebrating, showcasing and highlighting the Bouyon genre which undoubtedly as we all know in recent times has been dominating the airwaves locally, regionally and internationally,” Sales and Marketing Officer at DBS Radio, James Rodney said while addressing a Carnival press conference held on Wednesday.

He continued, “DBS is putting together what we call for this year 2024 the ‘Bouyon Connection’. Last year we had ‘For the Love of Bouyon’ because Bouyon Day was held on Valentine’s Day.”

Rodney added, “This year we are considering it ‘Bouyon Connection’ because we understand that Bouyon now is a linkage, Bouyon now can connect different cultures, different diversities and we felt that it really encompasses everything that Bouyon has achieved.”

Performances will come from popular Bouyon artiste Sheldon ‘Shelly’ Alfred and the Signal Band, Trilla- G, the reigning Bouyon Junior Monarch Moxie Shervy, Carlyn XP, Asa Bantan, Triple K International, and a surprise Bouyon artiste.

Rodney encourages everyone to like and subscribe on the DBS Facebook social media platform to be part of that virtual event.

Between 1995 and 2000,when UWP was incharge and onstage, when Angello Alleyne was DBS news editor there was no law to give access to opposition parties. They(UWP) controlled two radio stations DBS and Kairi fm.Franky CRAZY T Bellot owner of Kairi fm and a former candidate for UWP,placed the face of Pierre Charles on the head of a DONKEY.When UWP won the election the opposition had no access to DBS only Kairi fm,who at that time supported DLP.When Rosie died Crazy T,Kamala Jno Baptiste Aaron, and Kairi fm turned around started supporting UWP and blasting the government. When the PEOPLE kicked out UWP for corruption, victimization lies and greed in 2000 the opposition had no access to STATE OWNED DBS. So boy leave your head in your gabbage

Is de secret artist de hitman?
de little boy dat singing about how Dominica/Dominicans brokes
show off and expose de youths talent especially when it overplays de profanity dat Bouyon music is now known for
At it’s inception when WCK used to play jams at SMA after come as you like Bouyon was known for maintaining cultural traditions particularly with de different tones coming out of de sound
you could identify each instrumental tone from de conch shell to de harmonica.
That is what made Bouyon stand out and establish an identity for Dominica.
Today I say allow de young ones to sanitize de music and save de cultural traditions

The accordion sound really added uniqueness. Signal Band seems to have that touch into the future of Bouyon 🎶, TK etc may have to match that to remain relevant. There is hope, let’s see wha happen.

What I would like is for legitimate political opposition partes to have full access to this STATE-OWED media entity mandated by law. This is no special favour.

To contribute to Bouyon music is a good thing but conforming to the laws of the land pertaining to access by the different parties is more important.

DBS is used like a rag doll by the incumbent government. The entire management of this radio station deserves our collective scorn and wrath for giving credence to the multiplicity of lies and questionable dealings by an inept, untrustworthy, amoral autocracy.
