UPDATE: Day two WCMF cancelled due to weather; event may continue Sunday

Natalie Clarke, DFC events director

In the middle of a performance, the Dominica Festival Committee (DFC) was forced to cancel the second night of the 14th World Creole Music Festival in the Windsor Park Stadium due to the inclement weather.

It is unclear when the event will resume, but officials hinted that action could proceed as early as 1 p.m. Sunday, weather permitting.

By around 10 pm Saturday night, heavy winds had already decommissioned one media tent and was halfway through the other, which was streaming live radio broadcasts here and in the French islands.

The main stage became what looked like a catastrophe waiting to happen as the massive steel arms overhead, holding the over two dozen lights, started to sway violently back and forth during the performance.

Media operatives and a crowd of about 20 people that were in front the stage scattered as the arms continued to swing out of control.

Dominica News Online attempted to secure a comment on the matter from vice chairman of the DFC Sobers Esprit but he had no information to give.

“Talk to Mr. Piper,” was all he said as he pointed the way.

Attempts to locate Chairman of the DFC and Director of Tourism Colin Piper on the grounds proved futile.

Meanwhile, earlier Saturday the committee’s events director Natalie Clarke-White had insisted that the weather would not disrupt Saturday’s event.

She said the DFC had received a report of the weather from the relevant people and had expected a lot of rain but not enough to cancel the show. It seems someone failed to mention the hurricane-like winds that would accompany that rain.

It is unclear how the DFC will manage to keep the usually three-day event from overflowing into Monday.

Dominica News Online will bring updates on the situation as it is made available to us.

Tomas, the 19th storm of the very active 2010 Atlantic hurricane season, was forecast to strengthen and could become a hurricane by Sunday, the U.S. National Hurricane Center said.

It was expected to bring heavy rain and strong winds to the Windward Islands and parts of northern Venezuela in the next few days, the hurricane center said. Forecast models saw it moving through the central Windward Islands on Saturday into the eastern Caribbean Sea.

Tropical storm warnings were in effect for Barbados, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Martinique, St. Lucia, Trinidad and Tobago and Grenada.

,,”,,how low can u go by advising n perpetuating suicide on a public forum especially with ur supposed gov’t name,,,,,, don’t take it personal i just thought i had to point out these things to u sir”

Well, now those words in the above quote are your words, which to me are more suggestive than anything I threw at the foolish person from Marigot, whoever they are, and who seem to have found pleasure in attacking me.

I simply made certain statements, I never mentioned suicide or youth-in-asia, I simply advise the person to fly off a hill!

    Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah!

Now; unless they have wings, I doubt they would attempt doing that for obtaining the ” Telemaque Golden Medal ” of all time.

Secondly, the worst that could happen to that person wearing that tall pair of high heels, down the hill is that they could fall flat on their face, and burst their mouth, and perhaps crack their fingers, thus, they would not be able to use them on a computer keyboard to attack me nor anyone else, okay!

    Hahahahahahahahahahahahahah!!

Though what I wrote in psychology, could be considered suggestive, whereas you mentioned the word suicide, this could have a more serious effect on someone with a fragile mind, than all that I wrote.

Let’s hope that the idiot from Marigot has not taken this seriously.

Then again if that person is as retarded as they believe I am; you never know what can happen, my advise to that person is that, in the event they are contemplating taking any such actions, I now suggest that they consult Griffin Benjamin, since some form of psychiatric therapy might be needed

Tell him Son; the kid, sent them!

I believe that it was an irresponsible move by the Dominica Festivals Committee (DFC) not to cancel Saturday Night (Night 2 of the WCMF) when they knew that weather conditions would have deteriorated. Whereas the DFC may be cash strapped they do have some sort of public liability insurance for cover such occurances, don’t they? Don’t they also have some sort of disclaimer and some sort of policy that could cause them to merge the two nights into one as they did yesterday. That being said, the decision to eventually cancel was good although late. The decision to merge the two nights into one proved beneficial to patrons especially holders of single tickets.

All in all the Festival was very good and I am sure if there was no storm this year would have proved extremely successful. However, this was a learning experience and I am sure that the DFC will be better prepared next year.

When a Hurrican or Tropical Storm warning is issued for Dominica, it means that within 12 hours or so, weather conditions would deteriorate to the point where human health and safety becomes an extremely important factor. Recently government announced a major policy decision that concerning those times. Whenevr a “warning” is issued offices, (both private and public), shops and supermarkets etc should be closed and people/workers allowed to leave for home to takle care of their property. That I know is the government’s announced policy. The Creole Festival is anactivity of government. It was the Met Service, an agency of government to make the announcement that a “warning” hadbeen issued for Dominica. To go ahead therefore with the show even when a Storm Warning was issued for Dominica by a government agency, as early as 5:00 am Saturday morning was a highly irrsponsible decison.

Looking back we can shout praise God nothing happened. What if something had actually happened at the park during the first act who wouldbe responsible?. Is it the DFC or the government? I am sure it woudl be Skerrit this and Skerrit that. Somebody should receive a severe reprimand.

I do not care what anybody says otherwise. I think that the Senior Met officer had given enough information about the hurricane, to guide the DFC. I do not think that the woman in charge and or Collin Piper and Sobers Esprit should have insisted that the show should go on. They could have said then, that the show will begin early on Sunday God wiling. Everyone would and should understand that the hurricane was imminent had already caused damage in some places, and that nature will take its course. One cannot say that they have learned anything from that bad judgment, when a meeting early in the day with the stake holders could have avoided the catastrophe. I also hated to hear the woman say that Dominicans are party animals and come hell or high water they would come out to the open air event, and that the stage was covered. What I got from that was Pied Piper trying to lead the wrong way. Also if she had listened to the interview with Cheryl and Curtis Matthew and she have got it right away. “everyone should take necessary precautions, watch out for falling rocks, look out for landslides etc. etc. SHAME ,SHAME SHAME on Sobers, Collin and the woman ma Clarke.

I am not against the WCMF, but when I hear people say they will put swimsuit on and go anyway, I have to notice that when a prayer meeting is called to pray for your youth and our country, free as it may be, and in good weather, no one shows up. To risk thier lives, they will put on swinsuit and pay, just to not miss a sewo. And then we blame the government for the state of our country!!!

    @well well:

Not all Dominicans abroad feel that way. We are not one and the same. Likewise our views. Many of us empathize. I am certain that the organizers were hoping that the weather would not be so harsh. Furthermore, people did pay for the tickets. Since it is an act of nature, they will not be refunded whether they paid for the ticket and attended and due to the inclement weather, the show did not go on. Therefore, those who were specifically brave enough decided to attend. I do not see anything wrong with that. There are some who will brave the elements and those who will not, as long as no one was injured.
If you resided in a country where there are approximately 9 months of winter and a snow storm or a few occur be it frequently or not with high winds and blowing snow you will try to go to work and especially if you are paid hourly. The drive and/or commute to work will not be fun but people feel obligated to go to work.
A city does not shut down because of storms. However, if there was a warning about an impending hurricane and when we get up in the morning and listen to the forecast and are advised to remain indoors, then I could understand that everyone should remain indoors – at home for their safety.
It will obviously be disappointing to the organizers, the artists and the attendees, all who spent money for the occasion and those who paid $120. They took their chances and they are safe. This is good enough. Thanks be to God.

    @manyways:

I hate to say this but this pastor is a fool. God is not amused and pleased with his stupidity and lack of faith to the point of being blasphemous, using His Most Holy Name in vain.
Our Lord Jesus Christ said: “O ye of little faith.” So much for him who preaches the Gospel, The Word of Our Lord Jesus Christ. He should not even be implicated in politics. His position is not to choose political sides and therefore should remain neutral.. What type of pastor is that?
Our Lord said: “Many lead His people astray.” You, take note!
It is too bad that there is not indoor protection so that everyone could move indoors. It is something which should be considered in the future since the weather is always unpredictable.
When we plan events we never know what the weather will be like. Therefore, we should not be critical about what occurred. It is an unforeseen circumstance. The weather pattern could have changed and spared Dominica and the celebrations. Nature has no preference and does not discriminate.
    May God protect Dominica.

@joke boy: You worte:> ….”And why the hell is it that a jamaican is heading this commision.Dominicans are not educated enough”. Well Joke Boy and others whether she’s Trini or Jamaican it’s time you all get real.
In this time when there’s a lot being done to create CARICOM & OECS into economic unions you are going to see more professionals from other parts of the Caribbean fill jobs in Dominica as well as Dominicans filling jobs, as we currently do, in other islands. It’s just a fact of life and everyone stands to benefit.

Friday nite was great, storm intensified Saturday morning, lots of consultation went on but the call had to be made, then the storm got worse later in the night, show was called off. Ms Clarke and the whole crew should be retained for at least next year’s WCMF. I am looking forward to it.

The Met Office and the disaster chief – I heard him on the first night updating at the festival – I was listening these people did a pretty SWELL JOB at informing and putting the information out there.

The lady who came on DBS and is saying WE ARE ON TONIGHT – I could not believe and questioned here judgement. The weather officals in Dominica HAVE NO PLACE to tell the FESTIVAL ORGANIZERS when to cancel. THEY DID THEIR PART – ISSUED ADVISORIES STATED THE DISTANCE OF THE STORM SAID THAT CONDITIONS WILL DETERIORIATE.

What can else can we ask for. I am hearing the wind while the guys are reporting. Prior to the festival even beginning for the night St. Lucia and as close as Martinique roofs were flying off and in Dominica I heard people saying of wind.

Come on these festival people HAVE NO CONCERN for people’s lives and safety. You cannot encourage people to come to a festival when the WEATHER PEOPLE IN DOMINICA ARE TELLING YOU THE AMOUNT OF RAIN – BE PREPARED FOR ROCK FALLS AND LANDSLIDES AND WIND.

DOMINICA WEATHER PEOPLE NATHANIEL ISAAC and the lady reporting the weather YOU ALL DID A GOOD JOB.

    @Gisella:

No mam, I did not get my news or information on the Internet.

I was informed by the National Weather Channel which I view on channel 214 in Los Angeles!

That is a far cry from the Internet, now I use the Internet to connect to DNO to read all of the silly comments that these little weasels make about me, where one even lie, and say I make statements without facts regarding hurricane.

Such comments prove the ignorance of this lesser specimen.

The first comment was submitted by me, any person with intelligence can read every thread that I wrote, and without biases point out to me where I made a statement with facts.

And that proves how ridiculous and stupid some of these low-life people can be.

Lest flip it around, lest’s make him think something is wrong with him, when in fact they are nothing more than a pile of garbage trying to play smart.

They are people who’s hearts burns with jealousy, wishing that they were someone else, probably they wish that they were me.

Well, you can imitate me if you wish, however, there shall only be one, and only one Francisco Etienne-Dods Telemaque, and not even my son, my junior, can be precisely like me.

You know I am not surprised at all; since just about everybody in Wesley, and Marigot are more or less biologically related, thus we may have a slight resemblance, but as for a relative who might be a Bus driver, I am not aware of him!

And as for the person who insinuates that they sense some anger in me, that is further from the truth.

I simply deal with idiots the way in which they deserve to be dealt with.

There are too many people in Dominica who like to take the inversion rute, and try to bring people down to their level. though they are less intelligent, they attempt to make it appear that they are the smart one, and all others are below their level.

And since we do not have trailer parks at home, and I cannot call them trailer trash, I will have to tern that sort person ” plantation trash, and that’s Banana Plantation Trash, talking!

Dominicans, stop blaming Mrs Clarke, this was a tough decision to make, one which took much discussions among the committee members and the artists. If the saturday show was cancelled, folks would still comment negatively. At least they compensated for that in suggesting the afternoon show. It is true that they could have postponed it in the first place, but let’s just say, probably these storm-forms winds were not expected. Let us please stop pressing people. Some decisions are made with the best of intentions, sometimes they just turn out to be not the best one. In the future, let us try to make more positive and encouraging comments.

    October 31, 2010

We must be honest. Whether you liked Val Cuffy or not all of us who know him knows that he would have had a back up plan. He would have called Nath Isaac a few times during the day and would not have placed patrons lives at such risk. 10pm! That was too late to consider persons from Grand Bay and Laplain who had bought tickets!

10pm! The is no need to like the man but he takes charge whenever he is made to be in charge.

10pm! The DFC management were paid to make the decisions not pass the blame to the disaster preparedness people!

Love the man or hate him… He knows how to do events and do them well!

Guess what – sadly – we never accept our own especially the ones that are good at what they do…

    October 31, 2010

Why do people react negatively when things happened?1. They have no idea what went on. 2.Don’t take the time off,to figured out what may have went wrong. 3.Plain out ignorant. 4.Don’t understand that’s it is human nature, no one is prefect and we all make mistakes. The fact that we started blaming someone ,because the show wasn’t cancelled or the government should have taken charge is irrelevant. We should all learn from our mistakes, whether or not is the meteorologist, the government or the one in charge of the shows.Just move on.I have been reading these comments everyday.Too much negativity, too much bad talking.I have been living out of the country for over 18 yrs. I know more of what is happening IN DA Than most locals. Instead of critizism think of ideas that will make our country better and more productive in the future.LOVE TO THE LOCALS AND THE VISITORS. So are Dominicans blind and deaf not being able to monitor the weather conditions
to determine if they should leave their homes?
However, We should be rejoicing and praising God for being spared.
What if u had to wake up this morning with a torn roof? or destroyed belongings?
like our neighbors in B’dos, SvG and LUcia?
would u still be mad at not having gone to the show?
    Wake up people!

It’s unfortunate how the WCMF got affected. Force Majeur is unexpected!
I firmly believe that despite all these trials and tribs that the WCMF continuosly face year after year,
they will rise from the ashes and the true DREAM for this festival will come to light one day.
We can’t lose hope on the success of WCMF.

Anyways, with that said, I heard a guy from the Met. Yet still this very office lured people out of their shelter on Saturday night??? The very shelter this guy advise people they should seek when he pointed out peoples lack of knowledge on the topic??? So, who really has a lack of knowledge on the topic?

What are you some of you talking about!! Right now this is water under bridge. The festival was still on for Saturday, I had my ticket and went to the show, however due to storm the festival was canceled as soon as it began, no one’s fault. Force of nature. Now the show is rescheduled for today at 3pm. What is all the bickering about, most of you did not buy tickets, cause you all were not interested in creole festival so I just think some of us should not be making any comments what so ever. I support anything and everything my country have, because that is the way forward for development. We need to stop bad talking our country and some of us Dominicans just like to talk whether we know the facts or not. Geez!!!!

@sewo: isn’t the Creole Fest a government activity? If it was a schoolday they would have advised that children stay home because you don’t want children outside travelling on uncertain roads and overflowing ravines etc. I believe that the relevant authority to include the disaster headman, the head of NEPO WHO IS THE MINISTER should take full responsibility for the show not being canceled.

Let’s face it that it would be adifficult call but the main focus should be on saving lives and not leaving it open for the organisers to make the call. Greedy or not most organiserswould want to go on. The STATE was under storm watch and the relevant state authority should have made the call.

@Dominica Lover: Nicely put. The fact is, if you lived in enough countries, you will find that thats just how people are. They criticize their own people and praise the actions of those outside without first understanding or even considering that the people there are doing the same thing.
there are people that think Dominicans are some of the most friendly people in region while there are Dominicans that think other Dominicans are dwindling idiots too stupid to tell up from down.
my point is we should all embrace what is ours, because no matter how hard we cant claim what is not.
the WCMF is a world class event idolized by many.
A storm causing its postponement is not the fault of the DFC or any individual, its just nature at work.

Well, the way I see it is the DFC should have been better informed about the weather conditions and notify the public that the show would not be taking place..The public should have known better.I’m sure most people have a radio or tv. However, sometimes they call for hurricane or storms and for some reason or the other it doesn’t happen or it’s not as bad as they say. So the public took a chance and go and SEWO. The DFC manages the festival not the weather. God is in charge of such things. So DFC need to either find a way for the show to go on and give the public what they pay for or give them their money back..Nobody is really to blame here but two wrongs don’t make a right…

To the people who say Dominicans should have made a conscious decision on attending the show that night I say to you all, there will always be a given set of people that will depend on the word of people in authority. So if as an authoritative person you make it known that all will be fine, then there is always that person or persons that may not have the ability to look up the weather online or on a local weather channel who will find themselves getting drawn into a dangerous situation.

As a visitor I am amazed at how frequently Dominicans are quick to bash their island. Where is your sense of nationalism? Instead of always yelling and screaming about everything thats wrong and how stupid Dominicans are, perhaps some of you should read papers from around the world and see that similar things happen everywhere. Dominica is a beautiful place with beautiful people and a wonder festival planned every year. Rejoice in that and be proud. There will be enough negativity from outsiders badmouthing your island, Dominicans should not give them additional ammunition to put Dominica down.

This storm was similar to Marilyn of 95 in that in sprung up right on our doorsteps. That made it more difficult to predict its path. Therefore the NEPO should have been in session constantly monitoring the storm. If a lockdown for the country was issued then Miss Clark or Mr Piper would not have to be issuing statements.

The relevant minister was asleep on this one and we should heap the blame at his feet. The DFC may have shown bad judgement but the machinery of state showed incompetence. St Lucia cancelled their creole festival didn’t they? we should be thankful that no one was hurt.

Why would the Met office, Disaster Preparedness office, the DDA, DFC decide to stage the 2nd night of the Fest, business as usual? There is nothing usual about Tropical Storm Conditions. It was an irresponsible and ludicrous decision, to say the least. Yes, it is a difficult situation, yes visitors are here, yes artists have flown in and yes loss of money involved, BUT the deciding factor is the safety of people and security of life.

I come from Europe, visited 9 of 14 Creole Festivals. In only one occasion we saw dust caused by the dancing crowd. Many editions had rain, and that influences the atmosphere. Is it an idea to move the dates of the festival? Or is the Dominican climate never free of rain? Or is the festival so closely connected to Indepence day? Octobre is logic, dividing the year between two carnival periode.
Apart from that: the festival day should have been cancelled before it started.

I cant believe that with a Tropical Strom warning in effect for Dominica, that the authorities allowed the show to even begin. There is no excuse for such disregard for the safety, life and well- being of Dominican and foreign patrons. It is the Chairman of the DFC, the Chairman of NEPO, the Director of the Office of Disaster Preparedness and the The Minister responsible for National Secirity who should all resign for encouraging persons to put themselves in harm’s way. There is now way that the DFC Events Director could make such a dumb and irresponsible decision on her own.

Rather than save face and cancel the event, the DFC now has the messy responsibility of cleaning the shit from their face for such an foolish decision. The choice of “to go or not to go” to the show should never be left to the patrons many of whom in the euphoria of the season cannot make rational decisions. The DFC, has to be held accountable for the decison. Luckily no one was injured and there was no loss of life.

Wether it was going to affect Dominica or not is our of the question. A Tropical Storm warning is a Tropical Storm warning and should be treated as such. Flights are cancelled, fishermen are warned not to venture at sea, vessels owners are advised to safeguard their craft. So whats the point of the Office of Disaster Preparedness, trying to build awareness of our people about the dangers of such events and the need to protect and safeguard themselves if “big” DFC can poopoo the warnings with impunity.

I just hope that tonight a lesson was learnt

At 2.00am this morning high winds were ripping through the north Marigot/Calibishie area. Much less for Roseau and the west coast which I have not heard about yet. When dawn comes and the reports start coming in we will see what the full picture is.

I am concerned about all those yachts that came into Portsmouth yesterday evening because the sea along the north coast has been wild all night. On the map we may look as if we are far away from the hurricane but Tomas has some very long and wide arms like an octopus (chatu) that have punch in them. Respect and understand Nature brothers and sisters.

@Francisco Etienne-Dods Telemaque: why dont you get a life we Dominicans are not stupid we love to fet this is not different it is sad that due to the bad weather the show had to be cancelled, as for you posting the weather report dont you think you could find better things to do with your time after all we are following the weather report from both the huricane centre in the USA and the Met office in D’ica so why do you believe you had to tell us is beyond me.
As for the festival director she had to make a judgement call and I am sure a lot of folks thought the very same yes it was a foolish thing to say and I am sure she regret it but stop dumping on her we all make comments that later should not have said she wouldnt put any ones live in danger deliberately.
I hope that the show will go on and maybe the committee menbers and the Gov’t should consider Mr. Noris Provost’s earlier suggestion of extending the show make it a full week instead because it have become a world class show and people come in from all over to attend this could be larger than Canival if promoted correctly.

The roads are treacherous and more so the worse of the system has not passed Dominica as yet. But I guess the people have paid their money and this woman thinks the show must go on. Lord forbide no lanslide related accident happens. If it does these people must be held responsible cause this is ccrazy.

    @Observer:

What reason do you have to take issue with anything I write, why is it a bother to you?

To each his own, I have a right to say, do, and write as it pleases me; so do you!

    So what’s your problem?

If you get your news and whether information from the Internet, then your information might be flawed, since almost everything you pick up from the Internet can be classified as ” they say.”

Whereas the whether report that I submitted came from a credible source, the The National Weather Station of the United States.

And that’s the difference between people such as you, and I!

I don’t deal with “they say;” whatsoever I read, it must be produced by a ” credible, and reliable source.”

I suppose you would not know the difference!

Even if the Director say show must go on, I think Dominicans should make their own decisions in attending the show. Obviously if the commute to and from the show is dangerous they should use their judgement. For the Director, Do you prefer to have a show with no attendance or reschedule for when more folks are able to attend? Hope you all won’t weather condition for not making a profit this year.

Dominicans I wish you all the best and enjoy the festities

Hmmm well I mean Its an international show and to cancel it would dissapoint alot of people both foreigners and Dominicans. They do have a choice though they could stay home. Boy those of you who bought season tickets what a waste! Now to reality: think of folks comin through under tarreau and canefield cliffs what about folks from Campbell (landslide prone area)? Those are only places on the west but think about eastern and southern for all the sea blasts! Hmmm I can only pray that God kills the bad weather pronto cause I fret for my country people and foreigners. Take care guys

This woman….is she not from the Caribbean???? Are they (DFC) more concerned with money-making rather than ensuring safety of patrons and performers????? These people need to be more realistic!

rather interesting your airport is closed since in the am times today you under a tropical storm watch yet still you allowing patrons to risk their lives to attend a gig that could be resheduled to start at say 3-4pm tommorow..

RAA the sound co show also be protective of their investments…

when you get high winds guts…what happens.. come on Dominicans arent so foolish although i know we have a degree it in…

canx this evening event…common sense needs to be applied to Proffesionalism in Dominica..
we need to be seen as deep thinkers not like bunch of uneducated fools…

show must go on,,,ha ha,,,what foolishness..wish a high voltage lightning spark would come black out the whole event….thats is pure rubbish thinking by DFC…… thats why they will continue to suffer losses at this event due to lack of inovative thinking and being flexiable….

@Francisco Etienne-Dods Telemaque: Why do you think you need to post the weather report for us to see? In Dominica we do have a MET office which keeps the nation updated on the progress of these weather systems. We also have full access to the weather reports on the internet, so don’t think that we are that backward in Dominica that you even need to post it online for us to see.

In addition, the storm is not forecast to hit Dominica so in all of your wisdom, get your facts straight!

According to the latest weather report , the storm has intensified (max winds of 90mph compared to 75mph earlier today) and has also already crossed over to the caribbean sea, which means it is to the south alomst south west of the island (120 miles south) and moving away…by the way a bit slower (10 miles per hour , compared to 15 miles per hour this morning). That said, it also means that the west of the island will be harder hit tonight and we all know that Roseau is on the west :)
Lets pray that the storm does not suddenly change plans and reverse a little bit .
According to the weather reports , the hurricane strength winds will not touch Dominica .

Eh ben Natalie modi, Hasn’t she been following the weather? Isn’t she aware of Dominica’s topography? Isn’t she conscious of the hills and valleys people have to travel to get to Roseau. She doesn’t know that we experience terrible land slides. Has she heard of the rise in tide and remember that people have to drive by the sea under the Canfield cliff. Is it just to take credit for herself as having staged an activity despite the weather. Come on my lady. this is Dominica and we know what weather of this kind can bring. Please rethink your position about the show going on inspite of the rains. And my fellow Dominicans donn’t allow yourselves to be drawn into a death trap. There will be many more Creole festivals so stay home, and stay safe.

Below is information as we get it on the National Weather Channel of the United States:

” Storm Warning lifted for Barbados.

The Government of Barbados has discontinued the Tropical Storm Warning for Barbados.

The Warning is in effect for Tobago, Dominica and Grenada.

A Hurricane Warning is in effect for St Vincent and the Grenadines, St Lucia and Martinique. (More information in “Tomas continues to batter St Lucia, St Vincent.”

that TRINI woman don’t know the perils of weather systems on our Island Dominica?

She doesn’t know or she is forced to produce a succesful event!!

The show will go on, but what about the Hurricane that is likely to hit Dominica; haven’t you heard about the damages it has already caused in Barbados, and I believe St. Lucia also?

We heard it will hit Dominica, as strong winds are already there.

If I am almost ten thousand mills away from Dominica, and know that the weather is nasty back there, and may become worst; don’t you think that people should be concerned about their safety, rather than some musical festival?
