DFC to address entertainer’s financial dispute

Piper

Chairman of Dominica Festivals  (DFC), Colin Piper says a board meeting next week, will decide how officials should address a financial dispute with some entertainers who were dissatisfied with their cash prizes.

Chester Daddy Chess Letang and Carleen Xavier, prize winners of the Soca Monarch competition are furious about what they consider a significant chop in the prize monies they have received for their efforts.

“We are going to go back to the drawing board. We have a board meeting on Tuesday where we will bring the issues before all the committee members. At that point I think a repositioning will come about and we will be getting to all the affected parties,” he said.

Piper said the media is not the place to discuss the matter.

He was speaking on Kairi’s Heng program.

That is where it hurts the most, in the pockets. Dominica reach a stage where some artists, musicians, calypsonians and so, no longer will chant down that rotten system or to sing against the corruption and other ills, and illegalities facing the country. For some of those artists Skerritt, DLP Govt. are their gods who could do no wrong. They now boldly and openly comment and really believe themselves that there is too much politics in calypso. What absurdity? They can’t stomach the criticisms against corruption and Bad Governance.

DFC new approach of dealing with its stake holders is unfortunate… But in time I am sure they are going to climb on the wrong prickle tree…You cannot make such a decision and never inform the artist before… This wrong!!!

why have so called Proffessional folks in Dominica brought this island to the gutter and the laughing stock of the globe…

im of the firm view that the educated folks in dominica have contributed worst to the ingnorant downfall of this island…

those who are educated are very foolish and caught up in their ego…

dont think dominicans can handle having a education they suck to the bone!!

im extremly dissapointed at your Mr.Piper,,a Pro doesnt handle issues that way… you seem so un impressive in your delivers in all aspects…you way to timid and lack any sort of creditability! what a shame..you and your DFC have made this ugly stuff stinks..

Ha ha ha!! You are so right. I worked in Creole Fest from the beginning when it was in Carnival City/Grammar School grounds till a couple years back. I remember clearly in one show in Pottersville, Carimi refuse to go on the stage before they get the second half of their pay. The person that was in charge then, come to the bar to get money to pay them. Then I hear him no radio saying bar not making money. These people have no conscience. Is only Dominicans they can do like that.

Why is it our officials in high office always seems to think that the media shouldnt be involved in exposing shady doings. Is it that they know they cant get away with it if it hits the media??? I wonder

How can DFC unilaterally cut the prize money. There may legitimate reasons to reduce the payout, but it they first had to get the performers to buy into it. Did they think they were dealing with children? How unprofessional.

I am sure that mr. Piper does care! if the truth be told the DFC is an institution he inherited and would rather be without so that he can concentrate on increasing the number of stay-over visitors.
