Dominica took second runner up spot at the 11th annual Miss Caribbean US Beauty Pageant 2011.
Out of 12 islands represented Nelisa Smith, a Salisbury native, secured a place for the Nature Isle.
The show was held on Sunday, July 10th at the Freedom Theatre in Philadelphia by the Caribbean Board Group based in Philadelphia.
“As a patriotic Dominican in the diaspora, it is my duty to shed light on my island.” Smith said.
Miss Trinidad & Tobago took first runner up and Miss USVI got the crown.
“I am thrilled for making it thus far and I’m looking forward to the next chapter in my life. Thank you to all my well wishers, my chaperone, Sabineah George- Mingo of Knowyourculture.org, also a Dominican, and my loving and supportive family, will always be my foundation,” Smith said.

Thanks and Congratulation to the young lady.One observation is the quality of the photo. The background is less than degrading.With the availability of photo shop one would think that a more presentable backgroung could have been presented. After all she represents the entire country and to poresent her with such a background is shameful and unfortunate.

No I can’t see that she was on her way home and just snap a picture you idiot. What I see is an unprofessional photo of the Carnival Queen. If we are presenting the Dominica image through the young lady is that the photo we would like to put out there. She looks great in the photo but the back ground is very distasteful.
