Dominica will be featured in a new TV series called ‘American Tarzan’ next month on Discovery Channel.

According to an article on Channel Guide Magazine, the series, premiering on July 6 at 10:00 pm ET/PT on Discovery, should appeal to fans of the network’s other survival series, such as Naked and Afraid.

In the premiere of the series, seven fully clothed challengers gather on Dominica to take on Mother Nature’s most brutal challenges, the article said.

“It’s a journey across four distinct terrains: jungle, coast, mountains and canyons. Over these challenging landscapes, the men and women must live completely off the land, while tackling punishing obstacles and facing conditions that early inhabitants faced hundreds of years ago, relying on nothing more than basic tools, mental toughness and physical strength,” the article states.

The article continued, “Even getting to the island to begin with sounds rough; the competitors must kayak through open water to reach it. Once there, the first challenge will be to navigate an impenetrable jungle. Over subsequent weeks, challengers will traverse the jungle, cross raging rivers, climb towering mountains, all while foraging for food.”

Discovery Channel can be found on channel 19 on Marpin 2k4 and channel 55 on Digicel Play.

It’s wonderful to see Dominica featured in such a diverse and intellectually stimulating range of television programming. It can surely only be great for our country to be represented in a ‘survive or die’ context. That’s right, right ?
