Fresh from producing the independent feature film Decalogue Catherine Fingal is already immersing herself in her next project.
Fingal, a Kalinago originally from Bataca in the Carib Territory, told Dominica News Online the next movie she will be producing is to be called Lucia Inocencia.
“I’ve partnered up with a film maker Noel Ancheta to produce his incredible screenplay,” she said. “I’m very excited to bring this story based on true events to the big screen.”
She said the film will tell the story of Lucia Inocencia, who was born in San Salvador at the beginning of the civil war there in 1980. “Her abusive father, an ex Guardia Nacional, decides to move his family into the countryside after he kills his wife when he discovered she had joined the guerrillas forces and thinks that she is betraying him with the leader of the guerrillas,” she said in giving a brief snapshot of the movie.
She said the movie will be shot in a unique style, rich with surrealistic effects and plans are being made to cast some of the most talented actors in Hollywood.
Fingal said scouting for movie will begin in six to eight weeks and although it is set in El Salvador possibilities exist for having some of the production done in Dominica. “Yes, if it is to our advantage,” she said. “Big concern is inadequate medical facilities for production insurance purposes. But we are keeping an open mind and if it makes sense financially, we may consider bringing some production to Dominica.”
Decalogue premiered recently and was nominated for ‘Best Produced Screenplay,’ ‘Best Editing,’ and ‘Best Art Direction’ at the Action on Film festival in Pasadena, California.

U go Kat! Do ur ting gurl.. I’m proud of u!
Sounds great! Surrealism and/or magical realism can be fantastic on film, and yet relatively few directors actually try to create convincing dreamlike atmospheres/effects. And after seeing how professionally the trailer for the last film she produced was put together, I’m sure we can all expect something that looks spectacular. Best of luck to Fingal and her team.
