An impressive, successful trip! That’s the description being given to the recent participation by Dominica’s Afrikulture Stilt Walkers in St. Lucia’s carnival.
The group of 38, including 18 stilt walkers accompanied by family members and friends left for St. Lucia on July 14 and returned on the 22nd.
The group appeared in St. Lucia’s Carnival Monday street parade wearing their ole Mas costumes and they were back on Tuesday bedecked in their g their ‘Jewels of Emerald’ costumes.
A member of the entourage told DNO that the Afrikulture Stilt Walkers were so well received that they were invited to perform at the Bay Gardens Hotel on Thursday and the Bay Gardens Resort on Friday in St. Lucia.
The group was sponsored by Domlec and hosted by St. Lucian ‘friend of the group’, Egbert Felix John.
Below are some photos of Afrikulture Stilt Walkers in action during St. Lucia’s carnival.

u guys were great!! i was there for the carnival, my usual summer trip every year, and i must say was very impressed. i represented DA also with my flag and outfit. the little children were fantastic and Ferdinand i always admire you, since i know you and know myself into carnival, u in that walking stilts. keep doing what you do!!
It was indeed a pleasure HOSTING the Group. I look forward to joining them for carnival 2013 in Dominica and also having them again for “LUCIAN MAS”. Thanks guys for the opportunity in getting to know you. It was WONDERFUL working with the TEAM. TRUE CARIBBEAN UNITY!!!
By the way, cudoes to the photographer, who I suspect, may have also been on stilts. Great job. I think that the Bwa Bwa group should also engage in some sort of choreography (as a group) while on the road. I believe that that will definietely captivate the audience / onlookers. What do you think, BwaBwa Member?
And thanks to DOMLEC for their pasrt in showcasing Dominica’s traditional Mas culture. More Power to make the Mas and the Bwa Bwa group better!
When we saw them we were so happy cause the culture is so much alike and this is what we knew as carnival before it was brought to July our carnival has become so commercialized now (since the change from February)it brought back so many memories of growing up and playing “ole mas” we welcomed and took good care of them. Hope to see them next year. Please don’t do like us and let it die and let ‘panty and bra’costumes become carnival (money is not everything)
Very nice.
DA has so much talent….happy to see this move…great….
My mom was so excited about this article and these young Dominicans who showcase our culture in St.Lucia that i had to make this comment. When I search other websites it made me feel so proud to see this group featuring.Great Job to the BWA BWA people. My mom loves to see the young lady in the last picture. She does not know her but something about this child.
Great Job!!!!!!!! I remember when I first saw this group at the opening of carnival 2012. I was very excited to see this little young girl on this she was so beautiful and brave at the time she was the youngest in the group on parade when I asked about her age. I am now back in the United States when I saw this article I just had to show this to all my co workers and really had to point out this little charming beauty. I would really like to know her name.(if possible).WAY TO GO GUYS.
Her name is “Zya” and she’s 6 almost 7
Great job guys keep it up and i’m very proud to be a dominican to the bone.
You all look beatiful it takes braveness to walk
so high. Great job!
sorry correction beautiful
i saw them for myself…and they looked great…a lapeau cabwit would have made it batter…
I am honoured to be a Dominican especially when I see the good works of groups such as theses in promoting our country’s culture. Job well done.I noticed the barricades placed on the sidewalks to keep revelers from interfering with the groups and bands. I think that this is a great idea; Something the Dominica carnival committee needs to take into considerations. Too many times, the beauty of the bands is tarnished by people walking through etc.
and they want to move Dominica carnival NO way!
Go tell all those who like to dominate the media, viz. the Vals and the Pawols, the Ghosts, and the DFCs and the DDAs and all the other to leave our Carnival or mas Domnik where it is!! Souple. Pa touche’y. Check all those Dominicans who return here for Carnival during the winter months, and you will get an even stronger case to leave it where it is!! Pre-Lent!!
DA 4 LIFE!!! VERY PROUD!!!
Good to see tradition kept in carnival…100% support!
