Dublanc hosts Feast of St. Peter to raise funds for hurricane shelter

Thora Bertrand

The fisher-folk cooperative of the communities of Dublanc and environs will celebrate the Feast of St. Peter this coming weekend, from 14-17 July.

PRO of the cooperative, Thora Betrand said that the aim of this year’s effort is a community-based, fund raising initiative to furnish the communities with a hurricane shelter now that the Dublanc Catholic Church is in disrepair.

In an interview Bertrand said, “Usually, we use the church as a hurricane shelter and now it’s in such a state that we can’t, so Dublanc is basically without a hurricane shelter right now. So after Thursday’s games night, the Friday night’s activities featuring the Midnight Groovers will be used to raise funds for repairing the church and giving Dublanc a hurricane shelter.”

The feast also features an event dubbed ‘Fish, Fish, Fish!’, where patrons can enjoy a variety of fish prepared in numerous ways, all-day Saturday and a kids fun day, with a bouncing castle, hula hoops display and kids race events. Saturday’s events culminate in a ‘jam’ with WCK before the community heads to church on Sunday morning.

“On Sunday we have a big mass at 10 am, where we invited the PM and the cabinet. We’ll have jing-ping, we’ll have steel-pan, we’ll have blessing of the boats and boat race, followed by another fun day for the kids and a jam from 3 pm with DJ Flip and DJ Mixx and climaxing with a jam by Swinging Stars,” Betrand stated excitedly.

She urged the public to support the feast in its entirety, simply because Dublanc is just a place to have fun and that patrons are guaranteed a great time.

lack of cooperation obviously. Now each village wants to to their own thing so better one will prevail.

I agree to building a hurricane shelter but why i have to pay to repair the vatican church. The vatican has its own bank and it cannot repair its church.

WOW Dublanc come out this year papa, I guess my village next door was left out of the feast, it is supposed to be a joint feast of the two villages,as we share the same church, same council and same primary school..SMDH, Bioche always gets the back burner.Hopefully this cycle of neglect ends.
