First ever “Woman of the Bible Contest” slated for Friday

woman of the bibleEleven ladies will take to the stage on Friday evening to compete in the first ever “Woman of the Bible Contest” at the Arawak House of Culture.

The 11 contestants will represent churches from the Gospel Mission, Baptist and Pentecostal Assemblies of Dominica.

During the contest, participants will compete in various life skills based on the “virtuous woman” and are expected to complete four household tasks in four minutes. They will all be expected to address the audience in a short speech and finally will use their talents and skills to portray the life of a particular biblical woman.

However, the main focus will be on their Knowledge of the Bible about which they will each be required to answer  three questions.

Coordinator of the event, Pamela Guiste, said there has been great interest in the show and a large crowd is expected to attend.

“The ladies are very excited about the event and have been preparing very hard with their respective trainers to put on an excellent performance,” she said.
.
The contestants are Macy Riviere, Kelda Joseph; Stephie Pascal, Leona Paul, Shambria Thomas, Annisha Maximea; Desma Patrick, Andra Richards; Janelle Colaire; Maylana Thomas, and  Nadilia Roderick.

The event is part of a fund raising drive organized by the Abundant Life Fellowship & Deliverance Ministries  of Pointe Michel, a member church of the Gospel Mission  Assemblies of Dominica.

Funds will go towards a church building in Pointe Michel.

“However, the main focus will be on their Knowledge of the Bible about which they will each be required to answer three questions”. News Article

That is what I was looking for in this news article, pertaining to that event.

However, as the “main focus” of the event, the answer to three questions from the Bible is not enough to prove knowledge of it–almost anyone should be able to do that.

As Churches of Evangelism, God’s Word must be the foundation of the Church, there is no question about this–for we are to the Light of the World and the salt of the Earth, enchanting those around us to cling to God and Life, in His Son.

Also, knowledge of the Bible is evident of “Eternal Life” in us, according to Jesus Christ, who said about His disciples: “And this is Eternal Life, that they may know You, the One True God, and Jesus Christ, whom You have sent” John 17:3

And so, an event like that one is the best way to show our witnesses that we truly know our God of Spirit, in Love, Truth, and Righteousness, who has made Himself the Living God in His Person of Love–the name is Jesus Christ.

There should be a “deeper focus” than simply answering three questions.

In the meantime I hope that this event will be successful for its purpose–let this be the Will of God and for His glory. Amen!

I believe this is a good idea. GOD gave life so we can enjoy it, as far as I am concerned , as long as God is glorified in it all that’s all that matters. Gods children has a right to the good things in life too. To him be glory and honor for ever and ever , amen.

I am not a religious person because all religions have really been created by human beings over the centuries and used by their self styled elders (bishops, priests, pastors, imams, ayatollahs etc.) to brain wash and have control over other human beings.

But it is true that all these brain washed people find comfort in these myths, and so if it makes them happy,so be it.

But I must congratulate these ladies for actually raising funds by doing something, rather than by just going around to the business houses begging, like most groups do now-a-days

Good to know of that our christian young ladies have an avenue where their talent can be show cased in a manner like this, and what is all that criticism about?… What would they have said if they were living in ESTHER’S day/time? Young ladies I encourage you all to be focus it is a good thing; after the contest I encourage each of you to continue living for Christ in everyway, keep yourselves pure before God your body is the temple of the Lord no SEX before marriage.

Some of the comments here make me realize how fragile and scarily unstable the mentality of some of our people are.
It even opens my eyes to see that we’re getting used to so much criminality, violence and negativity around us that even in a positive light we see shadows.
I’ve also been made aware of the inner thoughts and actions presumably by my fellow country people. The seemingly inherent lack of trust of the fellow man, lack of confidence of honesty in our selves and, sadly to say, a lost of respect and reverence for God.

Bring more positivity and more positivity will be brought.

Good job to the people behind this venture. I hope it bares good fruit.

    I’m just saying.

Negative comments are things to make us think and look at things in depth. When I read about the show I thought – why not some training courses to teach young women those values. Poor performances may damage the young girls reputation.

This is a farce. Just one step away from a beauty competition with speech and talent, soon they will have churh wear and be posing on stage.

  20. July 11, 2013

What a creative idea for a fund raiser! These are brave women willing to step out and compete at a public gathering to raise money for a terrific cause. The thing to remember ladies is simply this: THERE WILL BE NO LOSERS! Every one of you will leave a winner having contributed significantly to the Kingdom of God.

The fact that these different evangelical churches are represented in the contest is a testimony to the world of the unity that exists among believers in Christ.

I will be waiting in Canada to get further news. This is something our churches here can learn from. We also have fund raisers but usually they are centered around singing groups.

Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. Pentecostal Evangelist.

that exists between the evangelical churches.

That is their queen show. Next year will have evening wear and bath suit. I wonder what the bath suits of biblical days looked like. By the way this should not be a competition. Soon you will hear they cheated for this girl or this church; and that will bring division among Christians.

Why can’t we find something positive to say instead of all d negative comments? Even that 2. common man. So women can showcase their bodies and perform 4 d devil on stage but women of God cant perform 4 him? well we have to use our bodies and voices 2 worship him in praise, worship and dance. try an see something good coming out of dat contest and if u cyah say somting good just hush up and let God work in our lives.

I Think You are missing the point of the show on a whole. The intention is not for it to be a pageant for the christian population but it is intended to show case the skills and talents of these 11 beautiful young ladies and more so the talent round where they were given a woman of the bible to study and portray on that night. So not only are they displaying thier talents but in a way they are appreciating the lives of biblical women of great faith. Not becuase it is formatted as a pageant doesnt mean that it will end up being like queen show. I Urge you to support these ladies who are all wonderful and care for each other like family to do thier best

    • Making it Clear
      July 12, 2013

I think you are missing the point of the competition. However many people have that same mentality of yours so let me shed some light on the subject. This show is in no way intended to be a queen show, or a queen show for Christians specifically. It is intended to showcase the skills of these beautiful young ladies and more so to portray the lives of biblical women of great faith in hopes that the audience and on lookers will be blessed by the stories of said women. There is no evening wear and swimsuit and if it ever comes to that in the future (which I doubt and if there is another show,) then the organizers will have to rethink and get back to the real intention of the show. It is called a competition because there is to be a winner at the end of the night but the participants don’t treat it as a competition. They are all friends and family and help each other in every way they can to put on a good show. So look at the motive of the show and appreciate the work and effort put into it by the organizers and the girls, and instead of being negative pray that hearts will be blessed in the end.

the have to complete 4 household tasks? seriously in the 21st century we have a competition where we want women to submit themselves to the steriotypes of the past. I wonder what tasks they will be doing because the way I see it a good biblical woman should be able to cook, clean, wash and take care of their man. why don’t they just make that the rules of the competition and forget the bible all together

We must not loose sight of what’s important in our need for progression. While some olden things were in definite need of being upgraded, some should have remained, for the most part, the same. We need to look more positively at what we get out of everything that we do.

    • HUH?
      July 12, 2013

What kind of stereotypes are you talking about? The tasks for the that round of the competition are based on the virtuous woman in proverbs 31. She was a home maker hence they are to showcase their skills in different aspects of home making. So I have no idea what you’re talking about

That’s how ignorant some of us can be when we do not have the facts and just post nonsense. For a change there is something wholesome and uplifting to attend (like the Sisserou concert last weekend). I hope they get a packed house like last weekend. Enough of those sewo jams with stupid and degrading lyrics; shaking posteriors and gyrating bodies that really leave nothing to the imagination. I will definitely attend and encourage other people to attend also.
