GENTLE REMINDER: Strict measures for vending at WCMF 2010

Police today issued a reminder that only vendors authorized and certified by the Dominica Festival Committee (DFC) would be allowed to vend in the immediate area around the Windsor Park stadium, the venue of the 14th World Creole Music Festival.

“All other vendors will be allowed to setup in the area beyond Independence Street,” Police Superintendent David Andrew said.

Andrew further stated that these individuals who are outside the zone, will have to make ready their liquor license and health certification for whatever they are selling, as police officers will be inspecting them individually.

Persons caught selling within the area of the stadium and Independence Street without a DFC license will have the opportunity to purchase it on the spot or relocate beyond the boundaries.

The 2010 WCMF is eight days away.

They do say that ignorance is bliss, and reading some of the comments I have to agree.

No where in the world would a vendor be allowed to sell food to the public without a license.

Please take a good look at some of the so called snackettes/cafes in Roseau and I will ask would you eat in there. I know the answer is no. Why because they are dirty.

Do we want visitors comming to Dominica and end up with food posioning. Guess not, as that would surelly put another nail in the tourism coffin, and we all know what will happen then.
Yes the very vocal in Dominica will start blaming Skerrit.

    @underprivileged:

agee with you my friend no need for this. All those who want to come up with the fancy justifications are free to do so. If the people managing the WCMF were doing a better job at attracting patrons to the festival there would be no need for all this, money would be flowing and they wouldn’t care two ………. about us and our health.

folks, do yourself some justice here, this is a site where many people log on to; and if you continue to write bad english, this might create a false impression on who we are as a nation. This saying is very true; the way you speak is the way you write.

But on a different note; The idea of ensuring that every vendor has the proper license is very critical in terms of health safety. It matters not the quantity of the product but whether such an individual is healthy to sell to the public. This also creates a better health awareness for everyone involved and the community as a whole.

Another positive this creates is revenue; if you want to make some money, you ought to spend some money….giving back to the community is a positive sign that you have been given an opportunity to do so.

Anyway my fellow D/cans, enjoy your festivities and be safe….remember that you are your brother’s keeper……….

Hoping to be there next year if’s the Lord’s will……greetings from cowboy country…TX

numero uno: where are the health inspectors? they are the ones who should be inspecting.. Dominica needs to step forward.. to get a passport u have to go to the police, to get liquor licence u have to go to police, that is not a policeman’s job!.. Hire people and give them jobs! let the police keep the peace and learn proper policing skills so they can solve crimes on the country. When the police are doing other departments jobs we wonder why there are so many unsolved murders!
Number 2: to the people making political speeches and talking garbage. All around the world .. if there is any event the vendors no matter how small have to have licences … As a consumer I would like to know that whatever I am buying is not from someone who has not passed the hygiene inspection. How do u expect the country to make money? if the vendors are not licensed? do you think that on labour day and Miami carnival, the vendors are there free of charge? ” fuss some of allu Dominicanz, just *compawazoh* Just stand around complaining n beating allu tongue in allu head!”

Sad that all we can talk about is who did what and who did’nt do. – can we just get our country

straightened out. There are laws every where. you pay to sell things every where. We can

say that someone selling peanuts & lollypops should at least be charged $1.00 for taxes or

maybe they did not sell much and cannot pay. but …………………..we have to generate money

money from somewhere no matter how small to help the country.

@sad: I Have no words for what you have just typed there, the lack of coherence is astounding, Your comment mad me sad, That was a terrible attempt at a witty comment and you should consider returning to school for further education,

I regards to the Article, This isn’t a Dominican thing, it is world wide, Vendors are giving the right to due process to do things legally, just follow the laws, The DFC has to protect their interests and any money spent elsewhere is money from their pockets, its a business venture and the goal is to be profitable, If you was in their position then you would do the same thing
