Guyana bans all Vybz Kartel music from radio

Vybez Kartel

Controversial Dancehall entertainer, Adidja “Vybz Kartel” Palmer’s relationship with Guyana and its fan base seems irrevocably damaged following the announcement that all music from “Di Teacha” has been banned from the country’s airwaves.

Kartel has had his share of issues with Guyanese officials; pulling out of two shows in the South American nation due to alleged death threats he claimed people in Guyana made against him.

Now, Guyanese radio stations are taking an unprecedented stance against the self-proclaimed, “Dancehall Hero” by deciding to no longer play Kartel’s music as a result of the obscene and hardcore lyrics his songs entail.

The devil is also in their types of music. One evening I was listening to a religious call-in program. A young woman called-in and said that she went to a rock band concert and after she returned home from the show, she heard someone with chains – and chains outside her door. She said that she was scared. Obviously, she did not open her door. I do not know how she handled this situation.
The host of the program lectured her on the danger of attending such a show, about the presence of Satan at those shows, the type of music and lyrics and that he was the one who was at her door.
Note how those people are attired and the amount of tattoos, those which can be seen all over their arms. Consider what cannot be seen underneath their clothes. I really do not think too much of those people.
Young people especially do not know what harm they are doing to themselves including their souls and no exception to society when they participate in such shows, listen to those types of lyrics and purchase their music as they adopt those musicians’ words which could contribute to violence, disobedience and rebelliousness in society. This is what it means to keep company with the wrong people as also attending those shows. Birds of a feather flock together. I would keep those musicians away from entering the country.
May God help our youths and young adults to become wise to the dangers of attending those shows.

In response to the thing with Kartel being a Satanist. Kartel gives people that impression. Not because he has tattoos but because of the meaning of the tatoos he has. Such as the Head of Baphomet and other demonic images. You have to do a back ground check on tattoos b4 u judge or them or get them

      @ Kevin

Take a good look at his face and hands. They look devilish. He is one person who does not care what he looks like. I would not want to have anything to do with someone who has this type of tattoos. Why would some people deface and destroy their bodies in such a manner with all those tattoos? Something is radically wrong with them.

Cmon on Jamaicans. This is not a Guyanese vs Jamaica isssue.. It’s Guyanese Goverment vs Kartel issue. So please let us not use this as an opportunity to hate on each other. I am Guyanese. Not much of a fan of Kartel but i think Jamaicans are great and fun people and i think Guyanese are 2.

I used to be a fan of this guy’s music…back then he was what we referred to as “lyrically ill”. Some of his songs still carry positive messages, but it’s overshadowed by the ‘musical diarrhea’ he is now infamous for. It’s truly distasteful…as a woman, I don’t think I could ever appreciate the lyrics I now hear in Kartel’s songs. But then again, it sells! SMH

this is rubbosh the only reason they banned him is because he didn’t go to perform, if had gone he would not have been banned, these people should be shammed of themseves, tell what would have happened if he had gone. all that drama would not be going on, these Guyaneese should be ashamed to broadcast this to the public. stupess, they didn’t hear the music before, they are not innocent in this matter.

I find it sad and shameful that some posters seem to think Kartel should be banned more for how he looks than the content of his lyrics and public statements (as well as the potential danger he would be in, due to death threats). One poster went so far as to call him “the devil” and “satan” with the utmost assurance that Kartel was indeed this figure. What nonsense is this? Because the man has tattoos, he is suddenly a satanist? Come on, seriously. Sure, some people with tattoos are satanists. Some people who wear cargo pants are satanists, too. Some women who cut their hair short are satanists, too. Should we assume that all people with cargo shorts and all women with short hair are satanists? Of course not. And the same goes for tattoos. You may not like them, but they are no more than an aesthetic choice for most people and a ritual for others (a ritual that is ancient and that is not tied in any special way to satanism).

If you want to make a comment, do it based on the man’s actions, not your prejudices about how he looks. Sheesh….

    • Justice and Truth
      September 24, 2011

Common sense is to be utilized here. Their words, their language, the type of songs and tattoos, the company they keep and their mode of attire tell a lot about them. Who would want to associate with such people and listen to them? What could they learn from them? Participating in those shows and purchasing their music are encouraging such so-called artists and making them rich. Those who do should find a better type of uplifting entertainment and manner in which to spend their money.

    Vybz Kartel Banned Again
Ever since the new year it was reported that Vybz kartel & Mavado had been banned from performing in certain Islands due to the extremity of their music lyrics and the effect that it has been having on the youths. Kartel had so far been banned by Grenada, Guyana, and Barbados, but now most recently St. Lucia has also been added to that list.
The deejay was scheduled to do a huge show in St. Lucia for May 1st, but due to the kind of negative attention it had been drawing throughout the island, the committee has now come to a final decision to cancel the artist after having gone through a long two week contreversy regarding the upcoming concert.
Vybz Kartel who has never been able to perform in the United States nor some other countries abroad, had always been able to stage his music throughout the different Caribbean Islands but now that too seems to be coming to a halt, which may scream serious financial setbacks for the deejays music career.

Its me again!! Kartel is a caricom national. Under the revised treaty of chageramus kartel has the rights to provide services(concerts, his music being played etc) and the freedom of movement(meaning he could travel to n e caricom state). So guyana has no right legally yo prevent kartel from playing music or doing n e thing in guyana unless he has committed a crime in that country. So if kartel has good lawyers he could claim damages from the guyanese govt.

This is a clear example of y the csme will never work. There is open clear blatant violations of the laws by the top.

I’m a reggae lover, BUT will not listern to the trash that Vybz Kartel calls music.

This guy has been around since the early 90’s and I cant recall any thing memorable from him. Then he started to sing slackness and wow the ladies/younger generation loved him.

      @ FED UP DOMINICAN

All types of people went into this type of business. This does not mean that they are decent and exemplary people. This is why their lyrics are so crude and rude and offensive. They are in poor taste.
This reminds me of a conversation I had with a co-worker. I was informed, “not once have I heard you swear.” I would hear others swearing and utilize the four-letter word specifically if they were annoyed but I always kept my cool and utilize the proper language which I was taught from childhood and in school. I would not encourage others utilizing such language in my home. I would inform them that they should not swear and that it is unnecessary to do so also in such an environment. People are judged by their mannerisms. Such language are called street language. Therefore attensdees should not have to be subject to hearing them.
I recall reading in the New Testament that Our Lord said: “I judge by what I see.” I add to it, by what I hear which is also what He meant. It is not condemning the person.
Countries as Guyana reserve the right to ban certain people and musicians from their countries. They do not do so for no reasons. They do try to keep undesirables out. Granted they already have many in their countries but they are nationals including their musicians. This Kartel musician is not a Guyanese national.
Some years ago I recall reading that the former T & T Prime Minister spoke against the type of lyrics in some calypsos and that the words should be toned down and/or eliminated. Such words depict lack of respect for oneself and lack of respect for others. Like to state that these things have their people. This is why they should be banned for they do no good to anyone.

I’m mocking you, if you missed it.

Just because you don’t care for tattoos doesn’t mean people who have them are satanists. Open that narrow mind of yours or you will continue to make a fool out of yourself. If you have something of importance to write, like about his violent lyrics, fine. But to agree with Guyana purely because you dislike his photo is infantile and embarrassing in the extreme and you should be ashamed of your ignorance.

Yes, indeed, I must be the most psychopathic of the psychopathic; surely, malfunctioning brains spur on logic and coherence rather than randomness and incoherence.

I don’t support Kartel’s violent lyrics, as I say in posts above and below this one, but the man’s appearance is a different matter. He chose to get tattoos? So what? That makes him satanic? Get a life and a better brain with that new life. That should be your mission, boy.

I don’t see de reason that. Most dancehall artists today are obscene and hardcore. They should ban a lot of other artists to really make a statement.Kartel is raw but dancehall music on a whole is raw.we need to look at the bigger picture. All that said “Vybz Kartel ah de badest lyricist roun’ yah so” MORE TEACHER…..

WHat do you say abour reggeaton then? And all those old country and western music and soul music, R&B, POP and Rock and Roll which glorifies nothing but sex and outlandishness?
Is it because it is from a third world country dominated by mostly dark skin people?
